I guess you missed the point where that was the beginning of the 4th quarter and not the 1st. Which is WTF I have been talking about the entire time. 13 carries in the first 3 quarters is dog poo.
-
They abandoned the run when Dalton threw a pick when they were running down the damn field while trailing by 8. That series was 5 runs to 2 passes with 1 pick. It was the pass that put the game out of reach, the running was working. 5 of his 18 carries came on that one drive in the 4th quarter with the game still very in reach. The points given up didn't change the effectiveness of the running or disprove it was the right choice, especially against a team ranked 25/27 against the run. Not playing against your opponent weakness is dumb. Not leaning on your strengths is dumb.

Even DC said he was going to be a run first team this year. WTF are you talking about? The team is 25th in rushing attempts and 22nd in rush yards. It shouldn't be a discussion but here we are. Go look at the teams running it 30+ times a game, even KC is in there.
-
LOL that will save them. I hate that they have been a better team recently. Are they going to cut Reddick if he can't find a trade? That's interesting but no thanks to a trade.

DC was a pass first OC last year and he is a pass first HC calling plays. 18 carries is too light. He should have more than that. He also ran 28 routes with 6 targets. That is completely backwards IMO. That would also cut back on Daltons 38 attempts which would be a good thing with an elderly QB with Young as a backup. Also only getting 16 carries because of how terrible Young is only highlights the play calling issues because that should have been way up then, more than now with Dalton under center. It's nothing new with DC and was an issue with him last year. Stop acting like it's bitching to just bitch when this is earned. Just run the damn ball and stop pretending Dalton is Brady, he isn't and never has been. It was 28-20 going into the 4th so there was zero reason to abandon the run that was working better than the passing game before that point. He also calls a lot of passes on 1st down instead of taking the easy run yards which ends up in too many 3 and outs. Go look at the play by play calls. It's not impressive. Come on to you. If it's earned it's earned. This is earned criticism. As for Sanders, I don't even know why he is still on the active team. Might as well activate Boone and see what he has. Him being around doesn't make them look any better but just adds justification for more criticism.

Panthers Draft Pick Status (Week 7)

And Burns isn't worth paying and CMC is injured badly now. The issue isn't who we lost it's that they can't aquire talent anymore. Be sick of that because nothing will change for the better until that changes dramatically.

Everybody is talking about resigning Chuba Hubbard or Diontae Johnson
Waldo replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers
It all depends on the price on all of them. The team should already know these answers or close to it by now. -
With the total needs of the team it made very little sense to draft a RB in the 2nd. Being injured made it even worse. They could have done all 3 smart things next year but did this one in a dumb way anyway you look at it. Add in the D is so bad that running won't always be an option and it's the cherry on top.
-
Cool. I did't get the hype or the pick. Sanders isn't it so another useful RB would be great. It would also be great if DC ran the ball a lot more. This guy dudding out would be peak Panthers though so I'm going to need what all his hype is about.

Tepper is a bit unpredictable. He tossed 3 QBs out quick who could have been serviceable but kept Rhule for a 3rd year. It just seems who is in with him is safe until they aren't. I'm also not sure the pitch wasn't 'get him ready later in the season' yet with Young. And how that effects his hires this year is still unknown. Nothing has changed. His will still governs the team, he still hires his kinds of people and they will continue to stink until they stop the BS they have been doing since he started being hands on with the team.
-
Fan how you want. Also nothing has changed until it has. Under Tepper nothing has really changed date yet. Sorry but it's true until it isn't.
-
Yes. Hopefully they learned something and just make it 1 pick vs years of needed swings. There is no other position that effects as much of the game like QBs. Just get over Bryce and hope they make solid swings at other guys. They also don't have to hedge their bets and bring in a vet since Andy really doesn't have a lot of football left. (Yes I love him being here this year as a mercy but that's not a long term answer). If your going to have a project in the next draft then a QB isn't a bad waste of a pick.

A WR with the ball in his hands on a running play is the same as the RB who rips off those 8 yard runs. Duh. DC saw Carroll piss away a SB and said 'that is my offense, I'm all in'.

Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers' Week 6 loss to Falcons
Waldo replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thankfully they brought that back from IR instead of just leaving him there and moving on at the end of the year. I guess in the end he makes Sanders look better so that's fun. -
Young isn't making it anywhere in the NFL. There isn't enough talent the other 10 guys could bring that would still result in wins.

If We Don't Win Another Game. Do We Make Any Trades??
Waldo replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
They should be feeling out all of those guys now and if they know they can't or shouldn't afford them in the offseason then move them for anything now because they are already gone. They have an elderly QB, no defense and I'm not sure they are building anything more than experience for most of the team. Getting any draft capital is a win for people who won't and shouldn't be here next year. They definitely need everything they can get in the draft to start the rebuild from another failed retooling. -
What Do You Think About Our Rookies Thus Far?
Waldo replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
XL - We shouldn't have traded up. He looks OK and what DC likes. Overhyped by college fans. Body catches are some BS and need to stop. Brooks - Massive mistake. Even if he becomes a good player it was a terrible pick. Guys picked behind him that already make him look like a worse pick. Wallace - I like his attitude. I'm still not sure if he is going to be good or just good enough. Sanders - A project getting better reps with Thomas out there being ass which is ironic and funny to me. Has lots of work left but has upside. The rest are non-existent so far. I had to look up their names to see who we even picked later in the draft because I tuned out after round 2. -
If We Don't Win Another Game. Do We Make Any Trades??
Waldo replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
Paying an expensive RB when your HC won't run enough might be as effective as getting a QB that can't throw from the pocket 2 expensive OGs...so more of the same really I guess. I like Hubbard but I have a feeling he should be priced out of what Carolina should be buying in a RB. Especially when they have a RB contract they need to eat and get behind them ASAP. It's time to clean the mess up and I think that means not paying top prices for guys right now. Players are not going to be willing to stay or come here that have options unless it's at top prices. They did that with the OGs and it clearly wasn't worth it because it didn't help their QB from being a bust and the team still has won one game with a bottom third O and last place D. -
It was inevitable with his talent level. They also don't keep a #3 on the active roster so I'm not convinced everyone in that house understands how bad of an NFL player Young is yet. I get the feeling he is 'in training' and that is horrifying because it shows a complete lack of understanding of talent by people who still run the team. This chapter isn't over yet but I will be celebrating when it is.

If We Don't Win Another Game. Do We Make Any Trades??
Waldo replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's the biggest part of it. Trading an expensive player isn't in itself bad and is somewhat necessary in the modern NFL, missing on what you drafted them for is really bad which is the Panther special. Add in the Young trade and it compounds the issue further with that massive miss on so many chances at talent infusions on rookie contracts. The Rams did but then it caught up with them fast. They bought a SB but now have a team nearly as bad as the Panthers 2+ years after a SB win they bought and that's with getting to the playoffs last year while getting bounced by the team they used to buy a SB. They literally bought a 1 year window and fell apart after the Stafford trade as a contender, scraped together 9 wins under Stafford in 2023 and then got much worse again this year. They were also a 10-6 team the year before the Stafford trade so they were in a position to actually buy a SB. If you are not drafting well it will doom a team long term. They can cheat it for a bit with good pro-personnel moves but that's a patch at best IMO. And as for the odds, the more pics you have the more a team should increase their chances of finding good players. It also helps if they don't have a project player fetish. -
I'm starting to think teams know DC won't keep running it so they don't over commit to stopping the run even when it's effective. I think they are doing good but it looks better because teams know he will keep passing when he should be running.

Waldo replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
Drafting poorly and wasting that capital is why they have a talentless roster. -
Not going to see a FB with DC's offense. This. He is running someone else's offense and he has the tendencies to get away from what he should be doing for what he wants to do. He got put into a corner fast 2 weeks ago but ran just enough yesterday to keep it close enough to still be running in the 4th. It's very meh when you take the highs and lows together IMO. I keep waiting for the light to come on with him but he keeps doing that exact same thing you said over and over. I think that's just who he is and it's why he will hit a wall if he can't change that aspect of his coaching.

A good QB on a rookie contract would fix a lot of things. Not enough to make this team a contender obviously but enough to be more competitive and build around. That's the 2 year swing in the NFL. Get a good QB and build around him and you can turn it around dramatically in 2 years.
