It's just another year of the same with no end in sight yet it always feels a little worse as the suck drags on.
-
I'm not sure either would make the SB these days. A part of me misses it and a part of me realizes those days are likely dead
-
Both SB HCs were offensive guys. All of the other NFCS teams have deffensive guys and I would bet none of them will be seeing a SB with their teams. It's just the way it is for now and it doesn't look close to changing.

What Carolina Panthers can learn from Justin Jefferson contract
Waldo replied to jayboogieman's topic in Carolina Panthers
Kupp didn't win them a SB, the Stafford trade did. No WR is carring a SB. Kupp just showd his QB wasn't it so they went and got it. Hill is proving Tua ain't it either but it looks like Miami will pay him anyways. I said it's all about the QB and then the rest. The WRs just help those QBs and should help the team evaluate their QBs. Purdy just failed big time and that is a stacked roster. If the Viks new QB can't be it with Jefferson then he doesn't stand a chance without him. It's not about the WR carrying the team to a SB but the WR setting the young QB up for success and making it easy to eevaluateif they are it because that is the most important part of building a modern SB champ. They overspent but it was a luxury they could afford. If you think bringing in a rookie QB and letting your best WR go in the process then you didn't learn anything from the Moore debacle. If Young had a legit WR last year then half the BS about not knowing would be gone this year. I would rather pay to know then just hope. In a perfect world the organization could draft well enough to set up a Cheifs Mahhomes rookie cast or the 49ers but those are really the exceptions and not the rule, the dream I guess. -

The Had T Hill, Kelce and Hunt at RB when Mahomes was a rookie. They were also paying Smith the first year. The biggest difference is they had all those guys on rookie deals (holy hell lol) and had to get rid of HIll when Mahomes was ready to be paid where the Vikings are inversed. After watching what a team looks like minus their #1 WR and drafting a rookie QB I'm not that hard against it even if it's a ridiculous price they are only paying because they have the luxury and a great player. No contest the Cheifs and 49ers have the best coaching and rosters, one has a franchise QB and the other does not. It's always the QB first and then all the other stuff anyways. If you don't know you have the QB might as well stack the roster until you find one. -

That's on the QB and staff at this point. If they have drafted a good QB then it could be a SB team. His deal is up before they have to pay the QB so it's at least a decent try. Cousins was a get into the playoffs QB so good for them moving on when it was obvious what their ceiling was. As long as they are not paying nonrookie QB contracts they have an extra 30 or 40 mil laying around. Watching the WR market explode is a bonus. That model doesn't work when your paying a QB 40+ a year. -
The Texans were in the 3 way trade and saw all they needed to sit tight. And then trade up to #3. If they did love Bryce then they dodged a bullet but it sure looks like a smokescreen.

A Brit breaks down Bryce Young vs Jacksonville
Waldo replied to Jackie Lee's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not being able to see leads to more pressure IMO. It also takes it from a confidence hit to confidence destroyed. If he could see then he could get rid of it quicker. After the Atlanta opener his confidence was eviscerated with those 2 ints where it was absolutely him throwing blindly and realizing it wasn't going to work at this level leaving him with a much smaller field he could work with the rest of the year. -

It's not about the prospect looking perfect at that level but if they have what it takes to grow into a quality professional. Mahhomes was not a lock and went 10th. Spend a pick and do it again until you hit. That level doesn't matter in the NFL. It just matters if you can coach the prospect up to the NFL level because none of them are locks. -
The trade happened March 10th, a couple days after the combine where Young did little but show up with a lot of water weight. Even with scouting that cuts out all the interviews and private workouts or pro-days that come right after that. The Bears ended up with a good WR and the #1 pick while the Texans got a franchise QB. If the Texans wanted Young they could have jumped a spot so it smells like they knew who the Panthers' target was. They literally traded up to #3 after picking at #2. BS they wouldn't have gotten Young if they wanted him, the Bears could have traded to 2 and then down again for another haul. All the three way trade did was let Houston know what the other 2 where doing which made them think sitting tight the best option. The rest is normal draft smokescreen. They all lie so much that when they do tell the truth it hard to believe. Hell every one was in consensus over Bryce on the Panthers and then sure as hell was not in a matter of months.

He is a really good WR and they have a rookie QB so they can afford it. Look at what they have been wasting on Cousins for years? That's where this cap came from lol. Now the guaranteed money is high but Minny had to keep him while taking a shot on a rookie QB. -
Johnson is very smart IMO. He will get paid either way but avoiding a terrible spot can save your career too. He looks to be working the system and good for him. I always thought hiring interviews go both ways and have been disappointed watching people not realize this. He handled DC roughly but it was also funny because he did see them as what they are which is a new ownership group, even with Petters, he would be likely be destined for failure there while they figure out the normal learning curve of the NFL. It's not lying it's just 'your great but I can't say what your not because that is taboo'. Sometimes lies are expected if the truth isn't what they want. I agree generally. Ron was doing great work as a DC where he put in 6 years as DC at 2 teams vs Canales 1 year as OC before becoming a HC. Ron is such a known quantity by now, he earned his 2nd shot as a HC and it went as expected given his proclivities. Offense is just safer in this NFL vs Defense so any one that can score will get a look. Ryans is a beast but how do you think he fairs without Slowick? Which HCs were in the SB? Offensive guys. It's a thing and makes laughing about TB, Atlanta and NO all having beatable defensive coaches the Panthers still can't beat LOL. It's a dump. If your building a career the Panthers are a long shot. If you are taking a shot, getting paid and/or ready to grow from this failure then this is a great option. I think the jobs are extremely valuable on many levels but there is always a turd in the punchbowl with Tepper. Hurney, Rhule, Friterer, now Caldwell and maybe Morgan. Tepper always leaves some dookie around to contaminate the next batch...they literally help him fug up the next time. It's Tepper's MO, spend lots of money and lean on past failures into new failures. There has not been a truly fresh start under Tepper yet which explains why he keeps failing.
-
It's like with Friterer was the same as Canales. 'He's a great guy' and everyone loves him but Seattle had a HC opening with ties and no interview, even with a playoff appearance in a weak NFCS to boost his name. The NFL is all about ties and connections. It's so much more a small pond than most sectors could be so the corporate NFL bs is sooooo much thicker. All of those openings and no HC interviews? B Johnson is an anomaly, like a Kiffin, where usually you have guys that will go whereever to take a promotion even if it looks terrible for a distance, Wilks to Arizona comes to mind. It's weird and interesting how the NFL mirrors and then deviates from the rest of corporate America in their MOs.
-
Sounds like reality. Didn't Seatle also not interview him for their opening?

Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3

It looks like they left a backdoor open to make another offseason of excuses for their jobs...or they are doomed if they believe it's golden 100% -
Does anyone actually think Bryce will actually be good?
Waldo replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
Maybe but it won't be us. The new guys were hired for their pitch and we all know who that revolves around. I would rather watch a late round project than what I saw last year personally. -

He's a 5th round project? It's how he looks later in the year, I didn't think NO would be rolling him out game 1 anyways. If they had drafted him he still wouldn't be starting until later in the year. For a 5th a project is worth the swing IMO, especially given the situation. -

That or the guy getting cut in camp because he couldn't make his last team will be the one to put that unit over the top. People on this board are still pushing this as a good thing. -
Given the draft they just had it's hard to take any of these people seriously about winning. Who is the starting center? JFC nothing has really changed lol

He has a good eye. Stroud should have always been the pick and it should never have been close. Rattler in the latter rounds would have been a good rebound pick at that price given the current situation. I'll pay him $50 if the team would just listen to him next time the Tepper up the next draft. -

153 mil on OGs but it's an UDFA and an OG at center like that is a praise worthy master plan. Suddenly that rookie OC in the 2nd or 3rd is looking like a better plan...
