Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers' Week 5 loss to Bears
Waldo replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Pretty much. I think his hype got a little out of control but it's a position we have needed an upgrade at for a while now. Like you said a project in the 4th isn't bad like in the first and second. -
Doesn't matter if they keep brining in people who aren't very good. That's a way bigger issue then which scheme to pick IMO. Not like we could find 4-3 ends the last few years in that scheme.
-
No it's not. That's why both OGs came from teams allowing them to walk after their rookie contracts ran out. I said cheaper not cheap. Also hard to have a good oline when your C is on IR and aren't both OGs banged up already?
-
One would have been a splurge, two was an overreaction and showed how bad Dan is at all of this. Following it up with a hurt RB in the 2nd when the other options would have been better than the guy who he traded into the 1st for is a poo show type moves. The OGs don't hurt this year, they hurt when we are paying both $36.25 million next year because of course they lowered both's this year cap hit because of freaking course they did.
-
Not cheap, cheaper than the top 2 most expensive guys. Dead on about the draft but then we would need a good draft and those haven't been happening. Just buying the most expensive free agents isn't a recipe for sucsess or teams would be winning their seasons in March...where those teams usually do their only winning when they spend like that.
-
At what cost though? I would have been much more impressed with cheaper OGs that played well and chunks of that money spread around elsewhere. DM gets credit for the Jackson and Johnson trades but both those guys are on 1 year rentals so the complete story isn't finished yet. Both good moves in cost and returns. The rest is very debatable.
-
If we drafted the better WRs we wouldn't need Johnson, he would be redundant. Unfortunately we keep drafting the wrong kinds of WRs that can't run routes or catch the ball correctly/at all.
-
It was but I was just agreeing with KFD and said CP had a crap take by breaking down the 1st game with Young under center. If I came off that way it wasn't my intention. I also like the Gross comparison where you have a guy who could be better elsewhere but fills a huge need at LT.
-
He has been solid and your comparison to Gross being better somewhere else but the best we can find at LT is a win fits. Blaming him the first 2 games while ignoring the next 3 is just flat out a bad take IMO. He is graded well and he looks solid so I have no idea why everyone wouldn't be happy with what he is doing now.
-
Grading him blocking for Young is a waste of time. Young held the ball too long and dropped back out of protection too often. That's all on Young. The Ds also knew exactly what he couldn't do so they just dialed the blitzs up and ate his lunch. I don't think Joe Thomas could have protected Young from himself. He has looked better with a decent QB under center. He still had stuff to work on and signing 2 OGs at top market value makes it unlikely we will see him at OG anytime soon. There should be zero 7 step drops in the modern NFL. Carr proved that and is how he got Carr'ed.

All true but the last part is coming. DC was predictable last year and this year he is showing that now that it is week 6 and in the meat of the season where tape has accumulated. His lack of adjustments last game was alarming and a really bad sign of what's to come if he doesn't start adapting. Evero was some great DC who we were lucky to have so they skimped on D but the guys they brought in have been more miss than hit which just exposes him on that side. He is in year 2 and still trying to get his D functional vs dumbing it down and building from there. Failing on both sides will be brutal to watch if they don't change up their strategies.
-
They have been bad a lot longer. The Panthers just recently unsealed them from the spot at the bottom.
-
If you are talking about here I have to ask you what makes you think they have been in years? Hurney gave the nod on Rhule over meatballs because he loved the sales pitch, Reich was going to build a powerhouse with one foot in retirement on a large guaranteed contract with zero regards to what went doen with him in Indy and DC was friends with the GM who was hired because the owners wife with zero business or management experience liked him (they also hedged the process by brining in a consultant group to legitimate it while giving Caldwell the vote to lock the owners choice anyways in a 3 way choice on the HC).

I still think it's a great time for a house cleaning. They have 12 more games to prove that wrong but as of today I would pull that trigger and not look back. Top pick incoming that we still hold, possible to move past the Young mistake and plenty of reasons to make that move. As for the team moves it would be building a roster that meshes with who is here, something they keep doing poorly no matter who is in charge. Plenty of dead weight still on the roster and they missed on too many of the middle and lower teir guys the last 2 years, that has to be improved. Don't target any of the top teir free agents, too expensive and this team needa hungry guys who want and need to prove their value. Draft guys who are not projects in the first 4 rounds while drafting to the strength of the draft vs agaisnt it like last year. Injured players and guys on the older side should be avoided next year. It's early. I hope they change that but it's not looking good for Dan and Dave is looking meh IMO.
-
I was not. Morgan's work here last year had me hoping he was not going to be staying either. DC is Morgan's friend so when Morgan was hired I knew we were fugged. The entire Seattle connections was always a dead end IMO that started with Friterer. I was hoping for Peters and more KC connections.
-
Very low. I was not high on the DM promotion, the DC hire or keeping Evero. Young was always going to be a bust IMO but only having to endure 2 games vs the 16 game of the suck marathon from last year was a nice surprise. Looks like we are easily picking top 5 again so that's dead on there. The Dalton bump was fun but also predictably short lived. The draft class is looking as predicted unfortunately. It's just not a good team and that includes what these guys chose to do this offseason even with the few positives. I keep hoping to see more improvement. I haven't see enough yet. 5 weeks down and 12 to go. Get going or I would cheer for a house cleaning. No Caldwell or Morgan or any of these guys? Sounds great even if Tepper fugs it all up again. I was hoping more from Tillis but maybe he is biding his time waiting for the rest to fail to step up and be Tepper's new in house guy? It was 3 to 5 wins for me but I think 3 would be hard to hit if they don't change up what they brought last game. Injuries stink but adapting is what the NFL requires in the best of times. Get to it or fug off IMO

Some and that's the concerning part for me. The idea it has to be perfect to get a fair idea of what is going on...which sounds really familiar. I'm just not impressed and don't get the hype.

Panthers Tankathon (Week 6 Edition)

Looks like a lock at this point. Don't worry when they hit their ceiling we will be in awe... -

The neat part is you really don't have to cheer for them, the Panthers will do all the work to make it happen... -
VR can' fix a complete lack of talent. Looks like it can help someone who should be in the NFL though
-
He wasn't ready when they made him OC here and freaking Rhule threw him under the bus for an easy excuse. Well Rhule and a bunch of fans here. I was one guy who said he had a lot of upside and it was a fugged situation so it's funny to me that I don't think the same about Evero.
-
Well good coaches adapt to what they have and bad coaches keep ramming that square peg into the round hole... Again this is like a mirror image of the crap people were saying about Young last year. I don't think it's all him, DM can also take some flak for his part, but there are a lot of excuses flying around for his poor performance.
