It's a mental break from reality. If you are going to wish for on a 'could have been' it's Stiechen or Johnson, it's not even close to Wilks. They could have made him DC but it's not like that is going well on a team that already had the top D last year that's starting to fall out of the top 5 this year...
-
Continue having one. I appreciate laughing at your take on Wilks
-
He was right tho
-
I was being serious. Your blind love for Wilks completely misses his time in Arizona or his negatives last year. It's not my fault you can't handle what people seriously think about him as a coach. I like the guy enough to hope he takes the App job. It's the perfect spot for him, his coaching style will go far in that setting and the kids would be lucky to get a coach of his quality there.
-
He is about the same. Wilks deserves respect but he isn't any better of a HC. Both are living in the past and neither was a good option. Fanboy as hard as you want for Wilks, he is 100% a known quantity in the NFL. If Wilks was here he wouldn't be doing much more than Riech. It may not be fair Wilks is taking heat over Shanny but his D is worth the critisim it's getting. Bring back Fox or Rivera is the same as bring bacl Wilks too me. Leave it all in the past where it belongs.
-
His D looked worse and he just went to power running on offense which was the lowest hanging fruit Rhule avoided like the plague. Good guy but he makes a better interim than HC. He isn't even really a good DC. He is one of those guys who you want to succeed but he just won't in reality. He absolutely got the guys behind him, that is his best strength, but that also isn't enough as a HC. I would much rather have had another year of Wilks but I doubt he would have survived more than a year with his skill set. Hell Reich shouldn't survive this year beyond the 'more time' BS while they kill another season giving him more rope proving what he has been for years. They should have gone Steichen or begged Johnson to build an empire here. Those were the only 2 good options this offseason for the Panthers. Wilks is going to take more blame then he should as an easy target out in SF but he is also earning enough himself because that was a stupid call for a DC let alone a coach that has handled HC duties before.

How Many of You Would Actually Want a Trade for a WR
Waldo replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
And Owner. Always owner first but the GM is also terrible -
How Many of You Would Actually Want a Trade for a WR

I have no idea what it will take for them to admit this swing was a failure but they don't look close yet. Feels like we should already be on year 2 of this one yet it's just 6 games in lol. -

That is both sad and depressing yet expected. Next year is also when I will be walking away from my PSLs and I suspect others will be doing the same. 24 is going to be terrible but funny for any non-Panthers fans. Tepper could hire a decent GM and give him a year to set up for 25 (scout HCs, evaluate players on the roster, start fixing what Fritz fugged up) but he won't because he is absolutely a loser in the NFL. -

Well they can draft about as well as they trade so maybe they need new people who aren't terrible at most everything they do first? It's just going to be more waste until that part is fixed first. They have already made next season depressing already so keep digging that hole as whost team in the NFL I guess. -
They have been held back by their QBs for a while now. Anyone not expecting a big step back going from Ryans to Wilks is probably surprised by this. Wilks will be the scapegoat this season and they will swing for another QB again.

Back in the day it was a place blue-collar players that wanted a family friendly environment liked. At least that was the image projected which actually appeared that way but with JR I always have to look back and wonder. If you are very wealthy and young why would you want to hang around the Carolina unless you were from around here? And even then like just visit. NC's got plenty of upside but the vin diagram overlap for young/wealthy and those positives are sparse. Have fun in the move. That is a fun area even if they did nerf SF itself.

Not this year, that is an injured Burrow. Says he had a calf strain he reaggravated in week 2. You are literally comparing him to Burrow who is having his worst year with a lingering injury who is throwing 2.1 yards less on average this year compared to last year... Stat Link Burrow's rookie year was 6.7 ypa

It's a bad match of QB to Oline strengths. Still, Young needs to be pushed and stop the coddling. Either he can or can't. Throw down the field and do some non-shotgun stuff more often or it's going to keep failing either way. It would take years to rebuild everything to just a shotgun offense, guys like Moton and Ickey are wasted in that kind of offense.

It sucks to be a Panthers fan, it's worse to be a Bills fan....
Waldo replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ohhh no a well run playoff team that probably won't win a SB. Sucks to be them... They could trade Allen to a Panthers like team and have a chance to pick 2 more QBs while still probably making the playoffs. Ohh the horror -
Not much really. It would be fun to see him come in and bring balance to the playcalling but that would require putting Bryce in uncomfortable spots which seems to be part of the reason the offense stalled to date. With his background I would expect to see more and effective running but that is going to be tough in just shotgun without some down the field connections being made to stop the loading of the box. It just seems to be asking a lot of a guy who has done so little outside of RB coaching.

What are the chances Burns gets traded before the trade deadline?
Waldo replied to CamWhoaaCam's topic in Carolina Panthers
With the crew in charge doing more of the same? No idea. They know he has value but with what they are looking for there might not be any options. I don't see them planinng for the long-term and just taking draft capital unfortunately. Flip a coin? 50/50 -
This would be a desperation move. Then they get a overpriced WR and next is 'if we had OGs blah blah blah'. It also is a great example of how the roster was so poorly constructed since Tepper bought the team. Try coaching up the guys you have. If Brown doesn't come in and step up the run game while just doing more of the same then it won't matter whoever they could bring in. Get a cheaper backup OG and just run the ball better and maybe elevate that pass protect game to just sub-average and not turnstiles. Watching Tepper's ownership is like watching a 12 yo play Madden and go for it on every 4th down.

Seriously, do y'all want a positive vibes only thread?
Waldo replied to LinvilleGorge's topic in Carolina Panthers
Or thinking things are going well or will turn a corner soon. This has been a very poorly run team for years so different fans overcompensate in different directions. I can't imagine Cleveland or Detroit fans could scrape much positive vibes together during their long years at the bottom. If they want to see more positive and less negative then the team is going to have to prove it's worth giving anything but more derision because that is absolutely what they have earned. -
Thoughts on Justin Fields as a backup next season?
Waldo replied to CamWhoaaCam's topic in Carolina Panthers
And running any formation that isn't shotgun -
Their roster is so poorly built anyone is worth trading. The LT doesn't match the QBs needed system, make that most on the healthy oline. Burns is hidden in a 3-4 switch going meh. CBs are injury factories. The WRs are old or nonexistent. There are so many meh contracts and players it would be impossible to throw a shoe and not hit one when they are on the field. I would just target 2025 and trade anyone that can be moved for assets in 2025. Get a new GM/HC combo and let them do a trial run in 24 with a lot of prove it guys so we can keep and build on that because I don't see anything worth building on currently.
-
He is so blah at best. He is the type of player you trade before his first big contract and never look back. Now he is their reliable CB. Just lol. Friterer is such a loser.
-
Yeah he is an absolute moron an might be worse than even I thought.
-
They were a perineal playoff team with another option already on the team and then drafted a better QB with the last pick in the draft. All this comp says is we should just play Dalton and move on like they did while still being a poorly coached train wreck of a team? We are also set to give up a #1 in this draft, the 9th pick, a WR worth more than a 1st, 2 seconds and you believe 3 first and a 3rd for the #3 pick is more than that? (Hint look at where those picks were for the 49ers they traded away Link) We traded more and both look like terrible trades but the 49ers just made it a blip while the Panthers are the leagues laughing stock. On top of all of that we drafted a guy who matches poorly to the team they built or had.
-
That trade will make it impossible to ever see him reach the value it took to get him here even if he gets past Teddy level production in his play. This team is set up to draft another QB without needing to trade up in 2025 already. It's a chicken or egg scenario, is he good or is he being ruined? It doesn't matter because that trade started the snowball that already got out of hand. Moore looks good, Burns isn't worth a 1st maybe now yet we need a new Moore. They would have to hit on so many things in the draft ,free agency and trades that it's such a long shot even before you take into account that the people in charge absolutely couldn't pull it off because they have been failing miserably in those areas. Some fans are already talking 4 to 5 years for it to all come together... Young never had a chance here and he probably won't get a decent one until this team dumps him and he goes on a prove it deal with someone else. I have never like his play or been impressed with his work, here or before, but that doesn't change any of this. He is doomed here unless he get a miracle like a McDaniels and we look 2 years away from any meaningful change because the GM who made that trade is still employed and helping the Owner and all we have seen if the OC is calling plays for his first time ever (or close enough) at 0-6. On a side note, the Texas game will a great measuring stick for Bryce. Some of the stuff floating around here will either stick or fall away after that game.
