The 49ers spent a load on Lance and then took Purdy the next year. That's how you walk away from an expensive failure in the NFL. They didn't give up and waste years on Lance, they went out the next year and took a guy in the 7th while Lance was having noticeable issues. They were not afraid to take a flyer or play the better guy regardless of draft capital wasted. That's a team that wants to win.

It stinks to watch a player I loved turn into a front office failure. He is going to have clown paint on his picture at some point this season. You won't be wrong unfortunately. A dawg is what I want hitting people on the field but not running a team. Aggressive? Check. Smart? Nope. That's a typical dawg. "I think the biggest thing behind the trade up to No. 1 is, at the end of the day, we weren't going to settle for a quarterback that other teams didn't want," Morgan told The Observer in a phone conversation. "We were going to be able to choose who we wanted to take at No. 1. So I think, from that sense, we wanted to be aggressive, and choose the quarterback that we want to be the face of our franchise."

Unnecessary Bluntness podcast on Canales and preseason approach
Waldo replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
I did say Maybe next. It is the start of the season so trying to not bash him until he erans it here. Fair chances and all. Yeah it's predictable AF sadly. There will be surprises but I'm not expecting many good ones. This crew was DOA in my eyes. They have a lot to do to change that or they will just be more names in the growing list of massive failures. -
Unnecessary Bluntness podcast on Canales and preseason approach

He already is trying with his preseason approach tho...The NFL requires innovation or guys get obsoleted when they can't adapt. He is also a HC and not just a play caller so all the personnel moves he made with his GM and friend is partially in his lap already. Just saying that he wasn't some amazing HC prospect anyways. Solid? Maybe. If he can't put some serious positives out there this year with his coaching then selling the 'just wait until he blossoms' thing is a hard sell for me. Every time someone gets their 'fair shot' under Tepper they fail massively and in fact they were absolutely part of the previous problems. That was never what I wanted but it's sure proving true again and again. -

Didn't even Canales say he wasn't an innovator? He isn't a Mc Daniel or McVay. He has a system he is known for and that's what he runs. Why are people overhyping him so much? If he can't salvage a playable oline with the money spent and options that were out there then he shouldn't just to get a pass. It would actually be a good sign he isn't ready and isn't the guy needed here. -
No one deserves the benefit of the doubt because no one has earned it yet. It's been a disappointing offseason, a weird preseason and hearing anyone talk about their long term plans when they can't do better in the short term only confirms it as more of the same BS that has been slung since 2020. Do something while stop making excuses and earn some respect or keep being a gaggle of clowns.

That's what people are hoping. What they hired is the friend of the GM they promoted to come in and make Tepper's goals work who got zero interviews and is incredibly green. Your scenario is more typical and I could see a functional organization taking that route but that isn't the current Panthers. I think you are way undercutting the typical dysfunction that is apart of these teams since 2019 though. This year hasn't shown me anything to think otherwise yet.
-
Different type of dysfunction. Some of the guys with the knives out last year are in charge this year. These hires were heavily influenced by not having the #1 pick and Bryce at QB as locked in facts. If it goes to poo then it wouldn't have to be a fit of rage but just flushing the Bryce experiment and everything attached to it...which seems like the QB whisperer you brought in that no one else even interviewed is fair game at that point. Lots of money and the #1 pick would change the hiring options but yeah Tepper would get bent over hard for sure in that process. No idea. I see lots of hope that this is all just a long term rebuild but the fact they didn't bring in a Canales guy at QB to compete while promoting Morgan and 150 million at OG make me guess this is all in on Bryce 2.0. We will see but everything, unfortunately lots of bad, is still on the table as far as possibilities go.

Yeah lets see how he looks week eight, Frank aged more than a sitting president by then. Frank had a 4 year contract and Tepper's 1 positive is his ability to use his money so any of these guys lasting into next season isn't a lock yet (Tillis probably has the best shot and would be Tepper's likely goto next guy which would have to be better than Caldwell). No one on this team or running this team couldn't be ditched in some way next year except the Teppers. Tepper would probably have to give the next guy a 10 year contract but again it's his money and he has been losing so hard he almost has to because selling a 2nd year on a staff with another year like last year is going to be epically bad in it's own way. I just find it weird to be so committed to the fallback guys if the reason it was that way is because they had pissed away the 2024 # 1 pick already which isn't the issue in 2025.
-
Yeah one and done is on the table, certainly not guaranteed though. This team is set up for another embarrassment and he is a big part of that. As for the fall out, well if that forces Tepper to take a huge step back and hire people to run the team for him and not through him then great. After this last draft I have seen nothing yet that makes me want to give anyone another shot at wasting another year. If this year goes how it looks so far then buckle up. Their are PSLs coming up for renewal (the 4 year option) after this season and a token 2nd year shot won't help those sales but better hiring sure could.

Who impressed & who needs to get his ass cut (Preseason week 1)
Waldo replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah it's anything goes territory but 18 to early 20s I would guess is a huge chunk of it. -

Isn't that one of the most sought things on the internet? -
Bryce Young won't play in preseason opener
Waldo replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
Edit: Yeah just getting out of the way would be the best option and let others run things. He looks like a terrible manager from every angle except pay. -

The only good thing he has brought to the table is his willingness to burn money to make money. It hasn't come close to being nearly enough but it's his 1 positive that I can think up. It hasn't fixed anything yet and just makes the failures that much worse so far. -

If that was the case then keep Bozeman in a run 1st scheme for another year and at least be ready to move Ickey inside to LG. Spending that money at OG and moving an OG coming off of a knee injury to C told me all I needed to know about this build and that was before the run heavy this year comments. That line looks like it was built and managed by a blind person who just asked who the most expensive OGs were in the free agency. -

Same mess with some new people added to the pile. Even the excuse levels are already at a comedic level. -

I can't wait to see the QB they pick after putting together this oline... -

It's a quarter of preseason, game 1 in the new format, football. This is such a bad look from every angle if Bryce is healthy. Bryce being durable is his only positive trait on the NFL field to date anyways. The pre-season is just about to kick off for them and they are already a clown show. WTF has really changed since last year? They are going to run the ball so much more in the season but can't for quarter? Clown show must go on I guess.
