2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
Waldo replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Meh, some promise but at this point not looking great. Outside of Horn it's very blah overall and he needs ro stay healthy this year. I'm glad we didn't do quantity over quality again this year. Will BC make a big jump? I hope so. Can Tremble beat out Thomas who has done so little with his potential to date? Hubbard is set up for a chance to improve with a run heavy offense and the inevitable at that position. Marshall even show up this year? I hope so. Not a great draft so far. Still has time but there is a lot that needs to happen for it to not be a 'not good' one. If you factor in when CMC goes to IR it is kind of true in a fall into it in a backwards way. -
I would hate to be the defender coming up on him from the secondary. He doesn't look to let those guys slide bye lol
-
I love that he can take on big guys in the trenches or hit LBers and DBs on the run. Ickey / Motton bookends is a strong combo. There will be holding calls and false starts as with any rookie but damn it's going to be fun watching him wreck grown men.

There certainly is a nice overflow into the hospitality industry, hotels and some recoup of tax money in the process but it's not like most of those jobs are more than seasonal, part time and low wages that are directly tied to the Panther's game day experience. IDK what the correct formula would be to entice business but without being a deals that is just robbing the taxpayers. Hey maybe a sweet deal with some profit kickback to the tax system...lol JK that would never happen. Too bad the cities can't get an investment angle on these deals.

I agree and it is certainly not a done deal overall but it's hard to listen to him talk about a new stadium and he still hasn't got his HQ done as a fan. It's absolutely better for Tepper because it's just more leverage to pull out of the area if sides don't start doing what he needs. If Rock Hill facilities were open then we would be talking where in the local area and not still possible relocation overall. I 100% agree on the last part, no illusions. Just not a fan of publicly overspending to the wealthiest, I get and can support deal sweeteners as a basic part of business but fug beyond that. Too many needy people out there to keep helping those that are way beyond helping themselves. That poo is just wealth consolidation in the form of corporate welfare.

Chris Simms - Matt Corral is the top QB of the draft class

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/05/07/pete-carroll-drew-lock-would-have-been-the-first-quarterback-picked-in-this-years-draft/ I'm looking forward to seeing him this year but I am not going to get overhyped or fanatical about it all. It's just not fair to put that on the kid at this point. I am very excited to not be thinking about Sam or PJ. Either way, everything else is a bonus to me at this point. -
Play Ickey at LT you say...

Hopefully the run game on the offense will be the best addition to the defense this year. The D looks solid and has a lot of potential but it could also not live up to last years unit with the gains vs losses in personnel. We will see. Lots of young guys that could step up.

Correct team structure has started. Now what?

It is so much of a better spot than we could have done with a Watson trade or even Picket in the 1st. It is a really good spot to build from, IMO the best option of the 3 by far. There has been some additions and some subtractions, in the end I think we gained long term but I don't know if the D will be as good or better than last year. That would require more than 1 player to improve a lot from where they were last year. That is just what I see, lots of upside but not production...yet. Happy to see what happens. No more blah vet QBs or old and injured prone LTs (or Erving who was just plain bad). Huge step forward. -
I never wanted Watson and I am super excited about Ickey and look forward to seeing Corral this year at some point.

It was an overall average D with some upside. It also carried the O but that also is a big factor in the yards allowed, we allowed 200 more yards overall on the D than O had. We gave up 21 ints and only had 9 on D. I thought the entire idea was to get young and build the culture and foundation? Now it's forced to be young? Hurney did not trade for Sam lol. Yeah, I get we don't agree but your angles I just can't support or really understand on some levels. CMC was a big question mark last year, lots expeced him to get reinjured if we didn't stop Cam'ing him...we didn't and all signs point to it happening again (Rhule's own statment). Rhule has been much worse than Brady, Brady was just inexperienced. Rhule is Rhule.

Matt Corral could've went in the first round to the Steelers
Waldo replied to EgoDogg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just let that poor kid play without yall putting the entire year on his shoulders. Good news is it won't take much either way to BE better than the sole 1st round QB. That is a lot more fun from where I am sitting. -

I like Snow but I'm not sure he would want to take a HC job now or ever. It's not the same gig as a DC, honestly DC sounds a lot more fun...at least to me. I liked that about him, he liked where he was and didn't want to change that. I'm more worried he just leaves with Rhule at that point to go set up shop at some college with a nice chunk of change in his pockets. I would think McAdoo and Wilks would be jockeying over Rhule's smoking corpse if/when the situation arises. HCing has some politics tied to it through the owners, media and front offices. If Rhule does fall then the knives could come out or not.

We were the top team in points allowed in the bottom 1/3 of the NFL or last team in the 2/3 of the NFL. We also gave up terrible field position. The top 10 D does not stand, that is fair given what we both said. It could be soon but the entire point of a defense is to stop the other team from scoring, not to allow less yards at the end of the day even if the stat really does matter in the total evaluation. There are some big positives on the D but saying it was a top 10 D is very misleading. That is fair not BS or hope or hype. Nothing I said is an wrong or even really negative unless that naritive this was a top 10 D really matters to you for some reason. Some good, some bad and we saw some improvements and some not improvements (Chinn at FS comes to mind). We are used to having good to great Ds and 2021 wasn't comparable to our top D even with the upside it showed throughout the year. Lol Hurney helped build an all D draft that is a huge chunk of this D by the way...and I despise Hurney. So my point stands and you are trying to deflect to Hurney about how this crew did last year after drafting D in the 1st and a new GM...So still not Hurney's fault in 2021 and still not a top 10 D unless you are talking in yards allowed.

Either way, neither would make a good long-term candidate. I don't care, I just want it to happen so we can start talking about a new HC that is too good to be forced to work for Rhule and his mouth.

Cough cough top 5 pick cough cough Could be Wilks

28? Check out Charles Woodson's career

They both ran with the good WRs, they just had a safety over top and they were under. Without that safety and the other team can just make it a speed thing.
