The 2nd was a game changer and was no brainer territory. I doubt we see a deal like that in the offseason for him unfortunately.

Pie to those on this board… you’re here when it’s ROCK BOTTOM
Waldo replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Third one is not the hardest one by far. And Tepper could keep digging easily. Just enjoy life and save hope for when it's worth burning. -
Of course it was Tepper pushing it because that is the kind of stupidity you expect of a new owner but he is the professional that needs to speak up and be the voice of reason. You can disagree with most people in a constructive way and if you can't then you need to move along for your own good. I have heard zip about any of that from him in all of those mistakes and they did hire him to do Rhule's bidding so the shoe fits from a distance. By all accounts he sounds like a yes man and Hurney proved why those guys can stick around like cancer doing a substandard job. If anything comes up, and it well could, then I will eat those words but he appears without any evidence against it yet as a yes man from the stands.

Traded for Sam like a bafoon and was going hard for Watson. Has yes man written all over him. He has to prove a hell of a lot more positives before I can belive in him in any kind of positive way.

Ickey has been everything I could hope for. I'm really happy we went withthe guy who is a beast in the run game and has the ability to improve his pass protection to an elite level. Watching him grow has been fun this year. All the noise at the begining of the year is really funny now.

The idea of a new HC coming in and doing a mega deal year 1 out of the gate is worst case scenario. Maybe year 2 if they have a good to great learning curve but never year 1. After the Watson swing I don't want to see anyone in house on the buying end of a mega deal anytime soon. A new and competent offensive minded HC could be competing and winning by the end of the first year with a vet or a rookie, with some luck thrown in. I don't think amyone here now fits the minimum of that so it will hopefully be new faces. Just draft a QB, find a vet if it's not on of the top 2 guys and do it again in 2024 if it's not good enough and until we find a long term QB option. This year is all about telling us what we need to do better next year. Staff, personel and dumb direction that got us in this damn mess.

Shaq says Wilks is bringing back the Panthers to what they used to be.
Waldo replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
We could be without both Wilks and Shaq next year, nothing guaranteed but it is a solid chance both are gone next year. This sounds like normal stuff and better than we had but it hardly changes the big picture situation for us. Wilks is doing a good job as an interim HC and this year is back to NFL quality football vs the Rhule clownshow. That is great for now but not nearly enough for next year IMO. I'm way over the Rivera school of football. Just get a good DC and get the same benefits without the huge negatives we operated under during the 'good old days' because Rhule was such a reduculously inept clown that we run back to the not good enough safe space a lot of us wanted the hell out of before Ron was fired. -
I thought he did but the more I looked into it he just cleaned it up. That was my mistake. Darnold was sacrificed up in NJ, we just finished him off sadly. He can't read the field and at this point it isn't likely to change since he is doing exactly what he did in school 6 years ago. Darnold was always going to bust for that fact in the NFL and even playing for really bad teams doesn't change that.

Link It was worse than you remember. Allen was a tweak, a big one but more of a tweak. Link
-
Allen and Mahomes say hello. I think it's a safe rule to follow but the 2 best QBs in the NFL says there is a chance.
-
Starters needed: DE, DT, LBer (need to see scheme but MLB is likely), TE and last but never least a QB. Could upgrade if big improvements are not made by the end of the year/resigned: C, OGs, WR and CB.

I love being the seller in these kind of deals. I would be pissed if we traded for an injury prone but great RB with those picks. Seems like a desperation move with Lance busting. obviously someone's job is tied to that trade and they are still trying to build it up. Whew, that is looking like a long shot at this point. An importsnt lesson for us this offseason.

Or someone has at least as much dirt on him as he has on everyone else... No way he walks away from a cash cow unless he is forced out, publicly or privately.

The fact Rhule wanted total control with almost nonexistent NFL experience tells you how bad that hire was and why I think someone who has worked under meaningful coaches in the NFL will have a solid chance moving forward. Wilks has the Rivera tree of experience and it shows. I think he might be an improvement by this point but it still feels way too much like Rivera for me to be excited about years more of that. Wilks showed what you don't take less than in a new HC. Stay away from the unstable guys who don't love the game and are selling BS and look for the regular hiring red flags. His time in Arizona was not great so you could flip it and say that because the other coaches haven't made HC yet they may be the better option because they are not an unknow vs that. I know Wilks can run a D but how the hell is he going to keep a good to great OC around?
-
McDaniels is already failing in NV lol so that takes care of the NFL Rhule as a HC. Doresy gives me those unstable vibes but their are other OCs out there. Hiring Wilks and being 7-9ish in wins in year 2 would be failing IMO. Next year isn't about Rhule or comparing to Rhule. It is really can you find a better HC than Wilks and the answer is yes as Daboll with the Giants is proving. Another OC that has a stud of a DC because no one with a brain wants to hire a defensive guy in this NFL. McD is the last one I can remember and he was propped up by Daboll and Dorsey is a noticeable step back from him. Tepper can afford to miss, just not the epic fail that is Rhule. I just don't want to sit through another conservative defensive HC, especially not one with Wilks coaching connections on that side of the ball.

Rams Offering Two (Future) Firsts for Burns
Waldo replied to OnlyPantherFaninMaine's topic in Carolina Panthers
Burn's isn't even a top DE or Edge guy. It is mostly about promise and ability still in his 4th year. Or is he? I went to look at any NFL rankings for that group and PFF (yes it's inaccurate) won't show but the top 3 in order. Can anyone with a PFF subscription pull Burns ranking from their site? nfl/grades/position/ed Just curious where he generally ranks. -
I think hiring Wilks long-term will have about the same outcome that Ron had in DC. Great DCs and nothing more unless the rules start changing away from where they are headed. All the culture changes Ron brought to DC were good for one year and then his limitations have been on display since then. We can and should try to do better. I respect the man, he has earned it but that doesn't change any of his limitations. There is nothing about fair in this conversation. It's like saying it's not fair the best safety isn't paid half what the best QBs make, it is just the value of ability AND position they play. DC that are really good can be found all over the NFL. And as far as the McDaniels comparison, if you hire a known failure at HC than that is on you. There are some OCs out there that are very promising without his well documented issues. Do you think Wilks could win a SB? I don't. I have seen 2 defensive HCs lose in the big game here and I don't expect that trend to change anytime soon.

Why I feel Wilks needs another season to win his job.
Waldo replied to Snake's topic in Carolina Panthers
Even if he can hire a great OC he will have a lot of trouble keeping said OC. Just hire the offensive HC and make an offer to Wilks as a DC. Wilks is not the future of the NFL, he is the past. What makes him limited as a HC is what makes him ideal as an interim HC, good culture and conservative with zero expectations. I don't like much of his coaching connections so I doubt I would be impressed with his staff. I don't like his desire to play zone coverage. Run first this year is fine, next year with a rookie is expected for at least a while and after that is a failure in the NFL. -
Rams Offering Two (Future) Firsts for Burns
Waldo replied to OnlyPantherFaninMaine's topic in Carolina Panthers
They are already teetering on the edge and if they waste their closest 1st rounders on a DE/Edge guy in line for a major payday then it would not take a lot to make them go over the edge by next year. They already can't keep up with contenders and Burns wouldn't fix their issues. They are already a fringe playoff team at best at this point with their QB deteriorating. If they don't find a good replacement they won't even be a fringe playoff team next year. We just need a pick way before 2024 if we are sending Burns away. -
Rams Offering Two (Future) Firsts for Burns
Waldo replied to OnlyPantherFaninMaine's topic in Carolina Panthers
2 future 1st isn't enough and Akers shouldn't be on that table. They would have to throw in a player who isn't ruined by injuries for just those picks to work. It just doesn't seem like a great deal for us...yet. I do expect those picks to be valuable with how the Rams are operating. Seems like they are hell bent on burning through their future and I have no idea how they plan to deal with their cap or lack of picks in the future in 2 years. -
He is also mean AF in the run game. Once he cleans up his rookie stuff he is going to be a top LT in this league.
-
Until he reverts to the old PJ he looks better than we have seen from Sam or Baker. If that changes then next man up. It really isn't complicated. I wish we would dump a QB for a late round pick for no other reason than just to not have to hear about one of them again.

Derrick Brown is really starting to dominate
