Team Needs: What positions would you want to address in FA?
Waldo replied to bLACKpANTHER's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would honestly be more excited to dump more bad contracts (Thomas comes to mind) and get over the dead cap in 2023. They won't do it because the people who helped dig this hole are still trying to impress Tepper with their genius understanding of wasting cap in the future without a franchise QB on their 2nd contract to force you to need to do so. -
He isn't worth top money but he is still a good player. The fact we need to bring in a better DE to compensate for him really tells the tale of what we should have and should do with Burns. Riddick is out there destroying the Burns is a exceptional player myth.

Mike Kaye, Observer comment on Wilks support
Waldo replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Then we need to dump those supporters also after the last game. Hurney's ghost lives on still. We can and should try to do better and I am already exhausted looking into our past this year. Wilks does not compare well to the top candidates out there IMO. I would even rather have Reich over Wilks. We desperately need outside help or the duds brought into our front office will ruin this shot at competency yet again.- 124 replies

Anyone we bring in has a chace of failure, it's unavoidable. I would feel a lot more comfortable if we could figure out how it went so bad so fast up there. Do not let a first year crew do a mega trade is the one lesson I can clearly see. The risk is way too high and I'm not certain they can recover from that move now.

We have seen leader of men fail on gamedays too often here. We saw the dud of what a nonleader and nonstrategy looks like in Rhule. Taking a shot on an offinsive candidate is the best case scenario for us. There are no guarantees but I can't muster anymore cares for leaders of men who are just bad at strategy. Steichen, find a new bridge QB, draft a project QB in the first or DE with trade up for a project QB. Not sure on FA or DC. I wouldn't mind a move to 3-4 but I'm not thrilled about a huge contract for Burns and staying in 4-3 unless we bring in a really good strongside DE to pair, it's not on the roster yet.

If it is in ongoing treatment it should be listed? I get what your saying and agree to a certain extent but how many guys in the NFL are 100% most weeks in this part of the season? Link This one says he did not practice and not injury related/resting player. IDK, weird. If it was 20 years ago I would just laugh at the injury report because it seemed a lot more common to just lie back then. He looks about the same to me overall.

He hasn't been on the injury report since week 11 and that was with an elbow designation. Week 7 was the last time knee was listed for him. Link

I don't think it's got paid syndrome but he is just a good and not great player. When he got his deal he was the only Oline player worth playing so we really didn't have a choice to not keep him. I see Ickey making rookie plays and mistakes, like that safety pushing him over SMH, but I see Moton making those bad plays in his 6th year. He has some good matchups and bad matchups throughout the year but overall he is still a good player who is going to get beat on occasion. He certainly isn't a Chandler or Bell lol.

The “Maybe Not So Obvious” Elephant in the Room
Waldo replied to WarHeel's topic in Carolina Panthers
Meh, win and Panther fans would go. We are at 5 win at the end of the season so Wilks can ask but it's just not good enough. There will always be opposing fans but one of those franchise are on the cusp of their first losing season in a long time and the other is in it's 4th 5 win season. This is on ownership and not the fans. -
Lmao.... Panthers still control their own destiny....
Waldo replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's not really a tank but just acknowledging the reality of the situation and begging for the mercy to make it end for the year. -
Riddick was ok and he is right there for a resonable price. Burns isn't top shelf but he is good enough. He shouldn't get a top contract, he hasn't earned it.
-
Embarrassing football is all the NFCS is this year and whoever takes the crown is just the biggest loser. None of these teams are worth watching in the postseason.

I want to see us clean house but we need a new direction in the coaching staff at the minimum.

Panthers settle practice site suit for $100 million
Waldo replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The civil lawsuits were filed in civil court in protest of the bankruptcy proceeding and is what allows them to be debtors in those proceedings. Link 'In the first lawsuit filed in June in South Carolina federal court, York County alleged DT Sports Holding, Tepper Sports Holding and Appaloosa Management were engaged in a conspiracy to misappropriate the $21 million. That suit, which called the failed practice site a “vanity project,” named Appaloosa Management LP, DT Sports Holding, Tepper Sports Holding Inc, and the City of Rock Hill as defendants. In that civil lawsuit, York County alleged Tepper’s companies directed misappropriation of $21 million. Tepper is one of the founders of Appaloosa Management. Then in September, York County filed a second lawsuit against GT Real Estate. In that lawsuit, York County claimed GT “squandered” the $21 million and converted it for “others’ improper use and unjust enrichment.” Tepper companies denied all those claims and filed countersuits against York County.' I get it's over but in the end he was sued and settled because he owed those damages which is not a win. The $81 million payment to York after they sued for $21 million (as stated above) is also very interesting as Scot stated earlier. It's done in court obviously but you have to admit you don't actually expect it to go away when the owner will be talking about a new stadium at some point or when he decides to actually build a team facilities beyond the practice bubble JR wouldn't even splurge for. -
Panthers settle practice site suit for $100 million
Waldo replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
If he could have save 10 mil by spending 90 mil on legal fees to win his case he wouldn't have settled for 100 mil. 90 mil buys a ton of legal services yet it wasn't enough to get him out of this mess? Any rational way you look at it the floor is massive failure and only gets worse. I do doubt they find anything criminal IMO but just a holy crap bad deal that should never have been asked for or given. So bad that they have to look at it for any criminal activity. Snake still thinks the bonds not issued were for insurance and not municipal bonds to raise funds. So no, not really. -

In civil court. He was being sued. This was settlement so he could peoceed with bankruptcy proceedings. The lawsuit from York county was a civil suit. -

Inncocence can still apply to civil suits? Think the better terminology would be not liable i guess. Same difference but yes I understand that the court system is more than just criminal court system. -
Panthers settle practice site suit for $100 million
Waldo replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Because innocent people always settle for a $100 million dollars... That is some mental gymnastics right there. Also avoiding the fact Tepper is still under investigation for his bisiness practices in this deal is very convenient. We still have nothing more than a practice bubble for $175 million wasted but Teppermagic... -
Panthers settle practice site suit for $100 million
Waldo replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Spent $175 million and walked away because the city couldn't raise $225 million. Does the $175 include this $100 million settlement? 175 million dollars and not a damn thing but land where no one wants him. Genius, pure genius. -

Corral's biggest hurdle is staying healthy at this point and that is reason enough to have zero justification for not brining in another rookie. Corral was screwed with his preseason workload and BS approach from Rhule but his injury issues are way more concerning due to the fact it was a concern with him as a prospect coming into the NFL. He will get his chance and I hope he makes the most of it. Purdy, Rush or any other guy who steps up and makes the most of their NFL chance should be respected but I think the media loves these stories so it creates unrealistic expectations. There has been one Brady, now R Wilson's success is being questioned about how much was him vs coaching and Prescott is probably ( I can only spend so much time looking) the latest picked QB finding success from the 4th round but it's a valid question if they could upgrade from him at this point. Purdy will most likely become something of a journeyman to jag if history holds. We have seen plenty of these guys here and it's fun when your better option goes down but it's way overblown and way too many people feast on that hook. Rush had his implosion in game 5. Sam had it in game 4. Purdy is heavily insulated in SF but that isn't going to help them in the postseason where reality will catch up to them...unless they are playing against a NFCS team lol.

It's been out of control, now it's finally imploding and it's not at all surprising.
