Arod got drafted after Alex Smith. Brady 6th round. Mahomes never played in structure and ppl questioned if he could. Sexual predator had question marks and wasn't drafted in the top ten. Josh Allen simply got good but wasn't accurate in college or his first two years. Justin Herbert looked like crap at Oregon bc he didn't fit their offense at all but got drafted off talent and is basically the second coming or Elway--no one predicted this. Russell Wilson went in the third round. Lamar Jackson is a RB according to smart people on the internet. I can't see why anyone would be afraid to draft Sam Howell. The fact he might not be drafted in the top ten due to what people feel about the class overall should be looked at as a positive for him.

I don't know what people are looking at when they say they don't think Sam Howell isn't at least a mid first round pick. He's mobile and can throw deep, teams are building around QBs like this and a lot of them look good. And when you consider how every elite QB in the league currently either dropped in the draft due to doubts or had a big question mark surrounding their selection, I don't see how you can be scared of drafting him. Pickett isn't my favorite prospect at all but I wouldn't criticize a team who drafts him in the first round bc of all this either.

Where does the Cam "I'm back" moment rank in all time history?

Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins OUT vs Panthers

It's gonna happen. Cam is gonna help. Jaycee Horn is gonna get healthy just in time for the playoffs -
I could see it. The defense could force some turnovers and Pj could scramble around and provide a spark. Will Cam be on the sidelines cheerleading? If so that would be a lift too.
-
I mean I understand a new coaching staff and front office starting fresh. But if they were gonna cut Cam they shouldn't have paid Teddy. Let Will Grier play so you can tank and draft a QB in the top 5 (they could've positioned themselves for T Law, Fields, or Wilson by letting Grier play pretend Gardner Minshew for a year). Or let Cam play on a reasonable deal in your "heavily schemed offense" that you think will make any ole QB look good. Just so frustrating the way they handled QB and OL as opposed to the defense which everyone loves.

That 10 mil contract was a big apology to Cam. If he plays better than expected I'd let him ride out next year, that way the team could do a whole offensive line draft, then find the rookie QB in 2023. No idea who the prospects are but I'm sure there will be some. Plus it'd be fantastic to see Cam here as the undisputed starter again after the way some folks on this board were trashing him before this signing

I mean Cam was only gonna cost them 20 mil that year they cut him for Teddy. They should've just kept him and looked for an option in the draft. Fields should he the QB of the future here but luckily good QBs are flooding the league now. Gonna be interesting to see what they do at the position this off-season bc they could take a guy now or let Cam ride next year and draft a QB then. Maybe that Alabama QB will be eligible by then, who knows.
-
Yeah, unlikely they can trade him. I see them either letting him "compete" with Cam next off-season or just cutting him. Tepper is rich as hell and clearly don't mind paying guys not on the team. Best to hope for is this realize their errors at QB and O line (bc honestly, the defensive moves have been fire), and adjust accordingly. If Rhule and Brady (who is is definitely NOT ready to be a HC yet) can squeeze a season plus of productivity out of Cam it'd go along way for the team as a whole and their reputations as offensive coaches.

Hmmmmm.

Yep, he was benched. That 'incomplete scapula fx" injury designation always felt like an injury that would keep him out depending on how poorly the replacement plays. Now that Cam is back, they're done with the reclamation project. I see a Brock Osweiler type situation coming, where we trade Darnold and like a 2 for a third or something to get rid of his contract next year. Cutting the losses seems ideal at this point. Man. What a difference 6 games make.

This is edgy bs meant to rain on people's parade, you should be ashamed for being such a buzzkill -

But you gotta admit he'd be awesome at MLB even though he probably looks like a safety now -

Hate to be too forward thinking but Cam still fits this allegedly "heavily schemed" offense and he is familiar with the two top targets. If Matt Rhule can draw on this last coaching reserves and squeeze like a year of productivity out if Cam he can start next year while they fix the offensive line (HOPEFULLY) with the Iowa Center or the Miss State OT and then draft a QB later on when people like the prospects better. -
Haven’t we progressed past helmet scouting?
-
Yeah but the Panthers are not just like the Texans. The Panthers have a good defense and skill players, they just don't have an O line or a competent QB. Watson would thrive here but who wants an accused predator?
-
Well QB is a big need and you need to draft those guys early. Sam being this bad is a nightmare scenario though. The offensive line was already a multi year project to fix from the ground up, esp when you only have 1 good player there. Now they have less draft picks and might need to find a QB in round 1. Also, they NEED to try free agency again with actual good players but guys like Wyatt Teller have already resigned with their teams. At this point it might be hard to pry Ryan Jensen or Brandon Scherff away from their teams when they hit the market. If they hit the market at all.

Passing on a Center for a QB in the top ten is smart actually, though
-
Fields is a rookie taking his rookie lumps behind a bad o line and with bad coaching. He's still better than Darnold and won't cost 18.8 million next year. Missed opportunity with regards to the QB position for this team, absolutely. At least Fields shows you flashes and you can be optimistic about him going forward. This is year 4 of Sam making the same mistakes, if you don't count USC where he turned the ball over a ton. Again, I'm not mad about drafting Jaycee Horn bc he looks like a future great player at a valuable position. But the decision making process involving the QB position, (thinking you had a guy you could make look good so you can pass on the options in the draft) was a terrible mistake.

The answer is cutting 60 and 75 and starting from scratch with better free agent lineman (look them up yourself, there's a lot of good ones: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/offensive-line// ) Also, Sam Howell Start mentally preparing yourself now.
