Literally the only positive thing I can say about Tepper is he cares about winning. He just has zero idea to do it, or how to deal with adversity. Bring in an actual competent GM and coach, then stay the hell out of the public eye. If he can't do that, then we're going to be no better than a below-average team for as long as he's owner. I've heard the reports that he's "learned from his mistakes," at least on the football side. Hopefully that's true, but it blows my mind that a billionaire in his late 60s needs to be told not to throw drinks on people.

Absolutely, and MSU will be really desperate for a big-time win after their debacle on opening night. We've also got that game against Baylor at MSG, so there are chances to pick up some good wins and see what this team is made of. Mitchell really needs to learn to slow down a bit on offense, but as you said, I wonder if he's not quite playing at 100% health.

Protest on Mint Street this Sunday at noon

Is that Miles Sanders on the stool? (Also is this DALL-E 3 or Midjourney?) -
Frustrating loss for us tonight. Obviously ESPN was trying to push the Love storyline but the real story of the game was Scheyer mismanaging the rotation and the offense. Arizona's a physical team that packs the paint, but the offense was standing around so much and not doing much to get their defenders to move out of the lane. No clue why Ryan Young got so many minutes over Sean Stewart, who would have countered some of Arizona's physicality. Likely would have made the difference. I suspect it has something to do with him struggling in practice. Still, Scheyer is just starting his second year and will figure it out at some point. Our next game is against an also-physical Michigan State team, so I'm really interested to see how we run our offense and manage the rotation.

Won't accomplish much but I totally get people wanting to vent their frustrations somewhere other than a message board. Can't imagine turnout will be very high but it'll probably be enough to get a little attention from the local news. -
You ain't kidding. I WENT to a bunch of Roof-era games at Wallace Wade when we were losing by 30+ every week, and aside from the fact the team had zero talent, you could tell Roof didn't have a clue whenever he had a microphone stuck in front of him. Not exactly a coach I'd imagine recruits would want to play for. But as your post relates to the Panthers - I think what you said about coaching being heavily about knowing people is bang-on, and why we should all temper our expectations about coaching hires until they actually start delivering success. I too was guilty of being excited about this year's coaching staff. Woof.

Was kind of thinking the same thing sadly. I'm an OG fan and started following the Panthers because I've always had the mindset of "supporting your home team is what you're SUPPOSED to do" But there are a crap-ton of people in this state - not just transplants but locals as well - that don't give any kind of fug about the team, and the Panthers have never had enough sustained success to draw in people that might otherwise be "meh" about having an NFL team. Then you have the fact that interest in sports is very different than it was in 1995 - not just in terms of raw numbers, but also the way people engage with them. You're absolutely right, and it's sad.

The 2001 team had quite a few good pieces on it, but Weinke was a poor quarterback who was already over the hill as a rookie and Seifert was easily the most inept coach this franchise had ever had until Matt Rhule arrived to steal his title. This year's team MIGHT accidentally win another game or two but they are far duller to watch than the 2001 team. Not a single player on offense with the exception of Thielen looks like they actually belong at this level. Whenever we have the ball, it doesn't feel that far removed from watching Ted Roof-era Duke football. I'm not even kidding. Continual failure to do basic crap correctly. Agree with OP - this is by far the most uninteresting season of Panthers football ever. You can lose a lot of games but still play a relatively entertaining style, and this team can't even do that.

Evidence of Tepper meddling in football operations?
PantherInTheBullCity replied to TeppersEgos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Late to this party but one does not need to meddle Jerry Jones-style to be a terrible owner that drags down the quality of the on-field product. We've had one clearly terrible coaching hire and another that's trending in that direction. Fitterer is still the GM and is the person who's mostly responsible for this dumpster fire of a roster, which I contend is a much bigger issue than the coaching staff. But Tepper's attitude at his public appearances has been the most telling aspect of his train-wreck of a tenure as the Panthers' owner. For a guy who's worth more money than most of us can even fathom, he seems awfully insecure and sensitive to criticism and expects long-time Panthers fans to be impressed by clown show BS like bringing more Kenny Chesney concerts to BofA. None of this tells me "this guy cares about winning." -
There's an eight-team log jam behind Florida State. UNC has a shot at it but I wonder if your defense can hold up. I do think you guys beat us next week; if Riley Leonard were healthy I might feel a bit differently, but I'm not sure that our offense can put up enough points without him. We might be able to lean on the ground game, though, so we'll see. Louisville looks like the best team after FSU. No idea how they lost to Pitt. Really weird year in the conference overall.

Local tv station for Panthers MNF?
PantherInTheBullCity replied to GRWatcher's topic in Carolina Panthers
Does anyone have local broadcast information for the Triangle? I have looked EVERYWHERE (team site/social media, the506, ABC11's site and social, TV listings) and have found absolutely nothing. I imagine it will be on one of the ABC11 subchannels or some other channel the station owns but there is zero information. I'm sure it'll be simulcast in Raleigh as our national games were last year as well. Just don't know why they can't give us the information ahead of time. -
Is it, though? Granted, I didn't watch him a ton at Alabama, but it feels like this year the small-ball offense is very much intentional. We surrounded Bryce with a bunch of solid veterans - nobody that's going to play like a superstar, but a bunch of reliable, experienced skill players that can help Bryce ease into things. It'll be interesting to see if we open up the playbook more as the season goes on.

For sure, Hartman is a legit college talent. He'll have a chance to really prove it against Ohio State this weekend.

Local teams in the AP Poll: 17 UNC 18 Duke - our highest ranking since 1994! Clemson received 76 votes and would be #26 if the poll went that far Really pleased to see us cover the spread against Northwestern yesterday, the Wildcats aren't very good but good to see us dominate a Power Five team. UNC looked impressive against Minnesota, looks like they shook off that scare against App. Feels like Wake has really taken a step back this year, ODU nearly had them.

I get why the Saints are favored, but there's a little too much pessimism here. Obviously the Saints have a dangerous passing attack but they don't have much of a run game without Kamara. Pressure Carr and limit turnovers and we'll have a great shot to win. Hopefully Week 1 was a wakeup call for Bryce regarding how quickly NFL DBs can jump routes.

Not a ton of great games this weekend, either in the ACC or nationally. Next week looks much more interesting. I'll be at Wallace Wade - Duke should win that one by a couple of scores UNC/Minnesota could be good, UNC is a touchdown favorite Never thought I'd see the day where VT was an underdog to Rutgers, but here we are.

All but three of the regular season games will be on ESPN+ if you're out of state. The three that aren't are Nov 15, Dec 6, and Jan 24; those are all on TNT, so you'd need either a cable, satellite, or streaming live TV service like YouTube TV etc if you want to watch those legally. Also remember playoff games after the first round are all ESPN/TNT, so ESPN+ wouldn't cut it for those.
