Texans sign Tyrod Taylor with incentive laden contract
d-dave replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I saw that last night. I guess the Texans are going to be trading Watson sooner rather than later. Though with a lot of vet QB moves, it's going to be interesting to see where he ends up. I'd love him here, I just don't want to give up half the team to get him. -
Aaaannnnddd, Now it's on GamePass for Xbox Consoles! Good thing I didn't pre-order lol.

Well, classically, no? Ish? This is almost a challenge for the coaches. Here's guys with good traits. Now whip them into shape and make them play well.

Kerr was a good depth guy. I'm very curious what the plan is for DT. Losing Kerr and Obada hurts that interior depth/pass rush. Could we go DT in the first again??? Hope not! I guess Frit wants to build his own team. After a team history mostly under Hurney, this is going to be very different.

Trey Lance - best QB of this draft not named Lawrence
d-dave replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
I really like the tools of Lance. It looks more and more like we're going to ride TB through 2021 because of cap cost. It would be invaluable for him to sit a year, work on his issues, and be ready to jump into things in 2022. I'm very concerned trading away a TON of picks. While I get you do whatever you can when you find YOUR GUY, we have an awful lot of holes on our team. We need a LT, guards, DL depth, CBs, and depth overall. The staff would have to be sold 100% that this guy is the guy if we're going to part with a mess of picks. I'm starting to think we should just pick the best LT we can get. If TB has more time, he can only play better. An upgrade at LT will also mean more room for CMC to run. I don't know. I'm not a film study expert, or a mechanics expert, or much more than an idiot with a keyboard. No matter what, I support what the team does, and I hope it helps us improve drastically. -
So I had a "crazy" thought this morning. Why not draft an elite CB or OT at 8, and then pick the best QB in round two? I've read and seen some people claiming that Lance is a round 2 player, and that Mond would be in play in round 2. So why not get Slater or Farely (or whoever floats your boat) and then find a QB later? I mean a good OT will go a long way to improving our team and offense, even with a return of TB.

That's the reality for all of us! I love the debate and banter about prospects. It's fun! At the end of the day, Rhule has a LOT of latitude as HC to influence draft boards. All the top QBs are being picked apart and analyzed to death. It's going to come down to trust in the prospect and coaches.

I've started watching whatever "experts" I can find on QBs (youtube university FTW!) so I can be prepared for the good and bad of what's next. Jones is not athletic in the sense of a Trey Lance or Justin Fields, nor is he close to Trevor or Wilson. He's got major dad bod. Does that indicate future success? No. Was Jake Delhomme ever an underwear model? No (hopefully not!)??? Jones does look like a guy who can play in structure. He looks like he has some decent pocket mobility. He can be accurate. But when structure breaks down, he's not going to make a defense pay with his leg. While he's made good throws, how often is there the pressure of having to make THE throw to win a game? Not just a game, but THE game that gets you into the playoffs? That's a BIG question for me. If the QB you need isn't there, don't settle. We need a LT, and there are some good ones there. There are some good CBs. Heck, we could draft Micah Parsons for LB support. You're always looking for a franchise QB...

I played a good bit on my Xbox One X, and it played so much better on my laptop (poor 1050 4gb), and better than my desktop (darn old i7-4790!). I'm just very busy right now (I'm falling really behind in the weekly Destiny stories) with work and family sadly. It might be a game I look at from afar just because of time constraints. Looking at some of the other trailers, there look to be some really cool locations and environments. If only I could win the lottery =P

Teddy Bridgewater likely on the outs in Carolina
d-dave replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
Indeed! I feel really good about our young guys on D! They did make some big time headway along with Snow. It still doesn't change things with Teddy. He's a good dude, a functional QB, but he's not the guy to carry you to a Lombardi. You need that guy in today's NFL. -
I hope he's not just a villain. She's been through a lot. She has been played pretty hard by those in power. I think in Strange it would be cool for her and Strange to be at odds over the "magic MacGuffin Thing" and her power. She shows Strange (and whatever villain there is) she's going to be in control of her powers by her own ways. This puts her and Strange in a state of conflict before the super scary threat emerges that forces them to team up like Avengers do. Of course, that's way too simple, right? I expect a film about the multiverse to go crazy.

Teddy Bridgewater likely on the outs in Carolina
d-dave replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
You're not wrong, but we need more out of a QB than a 2 yard throw on 4th and 9. Teddy would have been fine if our D did play better, but we'd run into the hump that Teddy could never have pushed us over. Teddy is a great dude, a middling QB, and he's not a guy who will elevate your team to greatness. He needs a coach and the rest of the team to do that for him. Maybe SF would be a great place for him with a super QB friendly scheme that will utilize his smarts, and a OL and running game to take some pressure off of him on early downs. Now if only we could get them to give us all of their mid round picks... -
Richard Sherman thinks Mac Jones criticized unfairly
d-dave replied to panthers55's topic in Carolina Panthers
Chris Simms has been going to bat a lot for Mac Jones. I've been listening to that on my drive to work the past couple of days. Simms' point is that Jones can read, diagnose, and execute a play very quickly. Simms also argues that Jones has more than enough functional arm strength. He mentions a lot of Joe Burrow, minus the athleticism. Blames poor pad/jersey fit for the questions on his body. Or maybe Jones just has an ugly body? It's been interesting to hear Simms talk about the various QBs and their fit, skills, and his evaluations. He grew up in an NFL family, even played for a bit so he's got the chops. He even said he'd love to be a GM one day, I guess going the Mike Mayock path? Regardless of his defenders, my main concern remains with Jones is that he played on the best team, with the best skill players, OL, etc. He didn't really have to put the team on his shoulders and elevate everyone. Tua beat him out, and Tua had a pretty rocky rookie year. I don't trust that, or Fields for that matter. Heck, Kellan Mond is looking better and better. When you consider A&M has put out some pretty good QBs recently, could be worse? And hey, Simms is super high on Mond so yeah??? -
Richard Sherman thinks Mac Jones criticized unfairly
d-dave replied to panthers55's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think about Lawrence at all. He's going to go #1 so he's not on my radar. Clemson did give us Watson so...tacos? Realistically, when was the last time an Alabama QB had a high level, top 10 QB career in the NFL? I've been a fan of football for a bit, and it's kind of hard to think about. The 60s? Stabler and Namth? I'm just a fan, not an evaluator. When I look at Mac Jones to the NFL, I don't want him because Alabama QBs have no had the kind of success we need to have for our next QB. -
Richard Sherman thinks Mac Jones criticized unfairly
d-dave replied to panthers55's topic in Carolina Panthers
I can see Sherman wanting to stick up for a guy with percieved physical limitations, like what caused Sherman to slip. But jones has much more going against him than the physical limitations. He's hard to evaluate. When has an Alabama QB lived up to the hype and produced in the NFL? Tua? Mac couldn't beat out Tua. To me, that is the biggest problem I have with Mac Jones. He is physically limited, and he also comes from a system that made it easy for him with the best athletes in the world around him. It's hard to figure him out. -
I watched it every Friday, got sucked into the theories, but after a couple of days to stew on it; I think this is one of my favorite shows all time. For me, it's not about continuity, action/direction, or even some gigantic theme. For me, the heart of the show came down to Vision and Wanda sitting on her bed (in her memories). When Vision said "What is grief, if not love persevering?" That has stuck to me like nothing else in a show has for years. I lost my father a few weeks ago, and certainly that is something I'm still dealing with. It's just one of the most beautiful sets of words that is so damn apt. Sure, I'm emotional, and I needed that. I also cried like a baby when he said it. The heart of Wandavision was phenomenal. Sure, there was a lot of mystery there early on. Jimmy Woo and Darcie were great comic relief. It's awesome to see Moncia gain her powers. But I'll admit, seeing the intense and wonderful love between Wanda and Vision was deeply satisfying. It set up for Wanda's major choices. Then when she said good bye to her boys...Well I lost it again. I've not had a show that made me laugh and cry this much. Totally loved it!

Right? Sure we had to pay a part time OT (who wasn't bad, but missed half the year) in bitcoin, but we did get out of that contract. It would be HILARIOUS if Trai got released, and we managed to sign him for a much cheaper contract. Full circle?

This last episode was amazing! The fact that vision was resurrected completely by Wanda, outside of his physical body is amazing. I wonder if Vision will continue post show in the rest of the MCU, or will he disappear with the Hex when Wanda eventually shuts it down? What will Agatha do with/to Wanda? Are her boys real? So many questions, and White Vision to deal with! I can't wait!

The more I see about him, the more I think he's the QB I want. Sit behind TB for a year, work on his short range accuracy, then unleash the beast in 2022.

The latest entry in the looter shooter genre. The difference, it's not a live service game like Destiny 2 or Division 2. More like Borderlands with set releases. The demo is out for all platforms for the weekend. Anyone else tried it? I played for a couple of hours last night, though I did spend a lot of time reading through the lore, which is interesting. But here are my overall impressions: 1. Gritty world - lots of swearing, bloody violence, and everyone is pretty horrible. I find the lack of hope and beauty presented to be lacking. We are playing for the survival of humanity, yet all we do is kill humans. Also, lots of stuff doesn't work so the setting seems hopeless. Visually, it can look nice. I mean, I'm playing on my laptop i7 (7700), 16gb RAM, and 1050 4gb, and I can play on Medium and basically no shadows. Good art, but it's almost all brown. I want there to be more diversity. 2. Combat feels very GoW, which make sense because many of the devs come from Gears. Cover is important, but the enemies will flush you out by charging you or expertly tossing grenades at you. Was there a school for this? Geeze! I am having issues with my controller settings. I guess I'm spoiled by D2's controls, but I found it very hard to actually aim and hit. I think on PC, M&K is going to be the way to go. 3. Lore is interesting. I like the descriptions of the characters and everything. The writing there is good. The characters in game? I don't like them at all. No charm, which is expected. I like there is a journal/codex of things you discover. There are discoverables on the map which help flesh the world out that isn't told as deeply in the main narrative. Though there is a main narrative so that's good! 4. The Loot! What is a looter without the loot? So I like the variables in the mods/perks. Like when I got a shotgun that also drained life, I was running around trying to shotgun everyone for that extra life. There are a lot of things we don't know about the game, but I think the loot and build game is going to be pretty good! 5. Classes - I have no idea. I played the berserker, who gets life by killing dudes upclose or with shotguns. The abilities recharged quickly and were cool. I look forward to playing with the rest of them. Overall, I am on the fence. It's a complete game when it comes out, so there's not the FOMO from a live service game. I want to see more of the rest of the game. I want to feel like my character is making a difference since we're set up as a hero to save humanity. I also would love to see some levity and beauty in the world.

Kiper Mock 2.0: Mac Jones to Panthers at #8.
d-dave replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
Since Kiper said it, we don't have to worry about it! How often has Kiper been horrifically wrong on our picks specifically? I get that he looks like a classic back up type, 15 years of clipboard holding and spot duty kind of guy. Rhule liked him, said he was an alpha. He's not the most physically gifted, threw to the best athletes in the world who were wide open, and comes from a school with a poor QB track record. I mean, if the Panthers think that...ok, then let's hope he's our guy. While it's fun to talk up and down the draft right now, it's really up to the guys in the FO to figure out how to make our team. -
I'd say keep going! I am in the same boat, episode 6. I think its interesting to see how the Roci's crew are trying to find their place in the world. I love seeing how the other characters are dealing with the transition of the universe. It does seem like a lull, but I think there's much more to see!

I'm not sure anymore, to be completely honest! I can absolutely see going out and getting your QB. Unless you have a franchise QB, you're always looking for one. That's kind of an age old adage. On @ellis's podcast, Steven Ruiz made a similar point to how the Chiefs have been kind of wackadoodle in their player acquisition. Doesn't matter too much because Mahomes hides all kinds of deficits. On the flip side, we have SO MANY holes on our team. Giving up all of that, it would make it hard for Watson to really thrive here to make the investment worth it. I mean, we've seen teams with lesser QBs win SBs with a much stronger team around them. Heck, I'm just a fan. I don't envy the guys in the building who have to weigh those kinds of options!
