Anthony Richardson declares for the draft
mav1234 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
As I'm sure you know but others may not, he had as many 400 yard passing games as 100 yard rushing games... If all he has was potential to run the ball he wouldn't be the prospect he is. Arm strength is awesome and he made some impressive throws. But he also has a long way to go consistency wise... If he didn't he'd be consensus #1... -

I'm not sure that he and I agree on the bolded part here... But you're spot on. -
He's had some good stretches so he'll definitely land some place as a backup. But I don't know if I'd say he's top notch. Regardless I agree that using him as a bridge isn't that bad an idea. There will be other options though, and it depends what he wants for a contract. I can't help but think some of the others might be more interesting as vet bridges.... E.g. Gardner Minshew... Otoh he feels like one of the QBs that is going to want to be more than a bridge or backup. Darnold, depending on his last five, might too.

He could but I think he's a better overall prospect than Fields and I don't think there are better QBs than him to supplant him in the top of the draft. -

Not yet but Teddy wasn't that way his first year either. Stroud has a much better arm than TB, and I think he'll get the mental aspect of the NFL game down, too. But it seems likely he'll be gone before we have a shot at him. -

By leans I mean expects him to start etc. It just isn't happening dude. He was a project, he looked terrible in preseason, and he's been out with an injury. He'll have a shot in preseason, but nobody in their right mind goes into next season with him penciled in as a starter, unless the goal is somehow to tank. We don't know what of his college skills translated to the NFL because of how bad he was in preseason, how poorly he was handled, and the injury that prevents us from seeing him now. It doesn't matter if he's the only QB under contract next year... The new coach - or hell even Wilks - will bring in a vet AND likely draft someone in the first few rounds. Also given how atrocious this offense is I don't think it matters where he sat on McAdoos draft board, lol... -

Right... this is hard to get thru to some posters... I have no issues with Corral and do believe if he's nearly as good as some posters here think he'll have a real shot to show it. But the reality is he was a project, injured in a critical rookie season, with terrible coaching. Deck is stacked against him to put it lightly going into next season, even if he fits the new coach's scheme. And there's no way a GM or coach leans on him at all moving into the season. -

That's a fine perspective. I'm also okay with us not drafting a QB in the first. But, AR does have a lot of potential and the right coach can likely unlock it. As to Willis, he was a more polished passer but a weaker prospect overall. AR compares crazy well to Josh Allen and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go in the same area. If he doesn't, I suspect it'll have to do with how he does in interviews and the like. -

Being realistic, though, if a prospect doesn't have reason to give you pause he's going #1 overall when he has a ceiling like AR. Hell, both QBs unquestionably above him have very large question marks, too. Not like ARs, though. He's not the best QB prospect in the class or even the 2nd best, but he might be the third, which could land him anywhere in the first... Which is reasonable given his position and ceiling, assuming he does well in interviews etc. -

Potential is why those guys got drafted, though. Whether or not a player makes it is a whole other thing - obviously everyone is trying to avoid drafting Ryan Leaf. But as far as we know there aren't major warning signs about AR... -

So that place kicker wasn't the best kicker in the league that year? -

Seems to be purely passing stats in isolation, and almost has to be a focus on yardage based on that comment. Cam had the highest passing TD% of any QB in that year in addition to 45 total. -

Your definition of QB is out of sync with the league. -

Justin Fields on this team, albeit without Horn, would be exciting to watch and likely quite competitive on the offensive side of the ball. But that also assumes Field isn't ruined by Rhule and I'm not sure on that. -

I also understand the logic that if Darnold played well but they weren't willing to commit to him very long term, then at least you could evaluate him for another year. They clearly had a lot of confidence in him, which is a consistent and stupid theme of this staff. -

His job wasn't at risk but if the Darnold trade didn't work out it seemed likely it would be IMO. I don't think it was a good move but I also don't think it was fireable. -

He never got better? I disagree. As to blowing games late he had 12 4th quarter comebacks in his first five seasons. Rodgers had 5 in his first 5 and has never had more than 10 in a 5 game stretch.... Yet people talk about him being clutch all the time. -

That's great but that's unrealistic in this draft and who knows in the next. That you wouldn't want Cam as a QB... Cam with a decent offensive coaching staff put up record numbers for a rookie... We held him back. -

Ill be honest. The Darnold contract, while frustrating, was not nearly as bad as some act in the greater scheme of things. Yes it was overpaying given how it turned out, but we weren't going to use that extra money this year if he didn't work out to suddenly barrel into the playoffs. I think Fitt knew Rhule was getting a third year, and knew Rhules future basically hinged on this QB working out. If not, he was a bridge for the future one way or another. Which he's turning into now, lol. -

The funny thing about this conversation is Cam wasn't considered Cam by a lot of media outlets coming into the league (or a lot of fans, including me). He was considered much more raw a passer than he really was. Of course there was some absolutely horrible things said about him outside of all that, too. -

I remember hearing things like this in pre draft. And yeah, I believe you, highlights do look like the same guy. For me it'll all be about how he processes the game and comes off in interviews. I think you're right he has a good shot in the first. And if he's impressive in those interviews he has a good shot of going very high. -

I think so but interviews don't always tell the whole story. He could be even better (or worse) at the combine etc. He's a very interesting prospect because everything I see about him reminds me of what little we saw about Josh Allen in the draft leadup. I'm curious to see how all the QBs do, as I still think Fitt is more likely to go for a QB out of round 1 (would be happy to be wrong). -

I dunno man. The draft is about potential, and Hill and Richardson have nowhere near the same ceiling. Richardson is very raw though, and I agree he's not close to where Cam was coming into the NFL. I don't think there's a good comparison now but he does remind me a lot of what I saw about Allen in college (which was very little). -

If Richardson does well in interviews and if his measurables are as good as it seems, he'll probably go mid to high first based on potential... He has enough amazing throws that you can see there's a chance.
