Tepper being “incredibly accountable” behind the scenes
mav1234 replied to Martin's topic in Carolina Panthers
There's a massive difference between recognizing and even saying you're taking responsibility for something and actually changing the fuging behavior that caused the problem in the first place. Doesn't really matter who Tepper blames if he doesn't change the behavior that caused this shitshow in the first place... -
For all that is holy please let this season end GameDay Thread

Chubas a good possibility for a TD imo -
I don't think the football people should be tied too closely to Bryce, either, but I do think it may be in the team's longterm interest to skip investing in a new QB this offseason, and riding with what we have, probably giving BY half a season or so while we develop the rest of the team. We already have Dalton on contract for next year anyway, so if BY flames out as it seems is likely, we've got a good vet to man the ship. But Tepper needs to also know this is the plan and not clean house right away, because it'll take time. The one thing I DON'T want them to do is to trade more assets for another QB... And I feel like most of the options that'll be realistically available to us in FA will not be very good...

Until he gets the fug out of football operations, it doesn't matter how much reflecting he does... -
REPORT: Ben Johnson wants $15 million per year

Someone mentioned the content at least. Not surprised this appears to be false information. -
fug man there's so much to bag on Bryce for that's legitimate lol

Coach picks his staff. I'd hope the coach would consider keeping Evero and Tabor, but Tepper needs to stay out of the decision entirely.
-
Should we seriously consider Evero for head coach?

We're also tied for most defensive TDs by opponents.. something like .4 TDs per game. When you take those numbers into account for all teams we're better on on points. Still not amazing. We have the worst defensive starting position in the league, or close to it. Yet ... We have a good third down d and we give up relatively few yards per play, too. Our run d is not good, but that isn't surprising given the 3-4 with mismatched pieces. I personally just think Evero is doing a great job with what he has available. This also isn't his first year as a good DC. -
Weirdly I think they have a pretty good defense this year. Far from the worst Bryce has faced, especially passing D wise...
-
One thing I'll give Hurney is that his first round evaluations were spot on. He always seemed to get one of if not the best players available, regardless of what we thought was a need...

Panthers releasing Justin Houston… what a great signing

our owner seems convinced that regardless of the roster we're just a QB away... -
Teams have had success all season rushing 4 and just covering our crappy WRs, so why is it somehow a "prevent defense" when they call a couple plays where they do that? A prevent defense usually involves deep zone coverage and forces throws underneath. Nobody runs a prevent on 3rd and 2 unless regulation is expiring.
-
Wow. Surprised by Bryce's grade being that high.
-
Young had one good drive in an overall bad game. He made some nice throws, but I'm not exactly sold on him. However, this whole "only happened cause of a prevent defense" thing is nonsense. The Falcons were not playing prevent at all.
-
This just isn't true. It was NOT a prevent defense. Failing to blitz isn't prevent defense... It's 3rd and 2 and they were covering the short passes. Their four linemen had been beating our OL all day anyway. They didn't drop back into deep zone or something...
-
Basically this. Not been a lot of bright spots on offense this season, and when we don't have to worry about draft position, I'll take a win against the Falcons any day of the year.
-
Yeahhh... I don't remember feeling like the Falcons had gone full prevent. 100% honest it feels like some posters are unable to allow any praise at all for some players. There's very little good from Young this year, but like it or not, he's had a few really good drives.
-
In ANY offense, 18, 19, and 20 yards are deep throws... That's just what they are... If Young hit those throws more consistently, I'd be more hopeful. As it is, he's only had a few drives where he completes passes like that more than once. I do not think that drive was a prevent defense btw. I am pretty sure they rushed 4 or 5 every play... I'd have to re-watch it tho.

Our opponents have something like the best or second best starting field position in the league. It's a HUGE reason why our defense looks bad in scoring - We are the worst in yards per point, because fields are so short. When you have a bad rush D like we do, that is exacerbated. Despite that, we've got some things in our favor - Our defense's third own stop rate is something like top 10 in the league. We're top ten in yards per play. We've got a very good passing defense across a number of metrics. Evero doesn't have all the players for his scheme and despite injuries he's done a good job IMO. The reason I'd consider him for HC is because of that - because he is making it work despite a far-from-perfect situation. I'm not saying you give it to him outright, and perhaps we will have better candidates, but he's making it work decently well with limited options.
-
I think our defense is extremely good all things considered (that is, in context with injuries and our offense lol), but we're lacking a real pass rush (ironic) and somehow have a really good secondary (weird), and we don't have the kind of players yet for a good run defense. The short field and frequent turnovers on the part of our O are a big, big reason our yardage is so low - but it's also why our scoring D is so bad. I think this is a case where advanced stats aren't really telling the whole story. I think Evero has done an amazing job in a single season. edit: For context, I'd say we are probably some place between 10 and 15 or so as a defense. I don't think we're elite, but our defense is good enough to keep us in games.
-
You expect a kicker to make a cheap shot like yesterday tho. I'll agree on relying on the D. I think being disappointed in the offense but happy with the final drive itself is reasonable. Calling Young's throws on that final drive underneath throws is a bit wild tho. He had 3 deep throws that drive for like 60 yards... Amusingly probably his three longest completions all day...
-
Given the OL play and how abysmal our passing game has been (meaning almost always loaded boxes) Chuba has, imo, been very good. I wouldn't say he's an elite player but his improvement has been noticeable.

This win signifies where we are as a franchise
mav1234 replied to lightsout's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think we all did, lol. It was bad. I do think they could have scored a TD on that last drive, if they needed to. Chuba was running with intention. The FG was the right choice, though. -
I don't think Bryce has a strong arm but his problem is footwork more than arm strength imo. And his height exacerbates that. Also overthrowing someone isn't evidence of a strong arm. I don't think Bryce has a weaker arm than Tua for instance, but Tua has better footwork.
