Young QBs lead their teams to undefeated October
mav1234 replied to KaseKlosed's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't care how we win either, but I care how a QB plays when it comes to his future with the team. At this point we don't have any other option so that's what most of us are thinking about if he doesn't improve. Also... It's extremely disingenuous to act like those numbers are why people loved Jake. After the 181 game and before that 148 yard game he had a 362 yard 2 TD game (in a loss too!) in a very different league. Had he basically consistently put up numbers like you highlighted we'd never have stuck with him. He had 2 300 yard games in that season and he averaged 200 ypg that year. He was a huge part of some wins and not others... But his shots deep were a big part of keeping the running game going. Different era entirely though. -
No. We haven't. You're going to take your Anthony Richardson and you're going to like it!

2200 yards, 17 TDs. 2000 yards, 17 TDs.... 1400 yards, 11 TDs... Ugh. -
I agree with you. Bryce hasn't backed us into a corner. His play is so so. Now Tepper or whomever may insist we give him a fifth year option which could force us into a corner if his play improved a lot

Wow, the defense must have been terrible for Bryce to need yet another game winning drive!

Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps. 5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.

At least we don't need to hear overreacting about towels ...

Was just about to go find this. Bryce was never a deep ball specialist.
-
There's like 1 poster satisfied with his performance. Even his most ardent supporters in the past agreed he needs to be better.

I don't get trading away all of your best players on both sides of the ball. You need SOMETHING to build off of in the future. I think the Sauce trade was really good, but this kinda firesale just seems like a bad idea.

Why do people think Bryce Young won this game yesterday?

Sure but then you also have to consider his overall record... -
it was ridiculous to see how Dalton did after starting multiple games last year and go, "Yup, that's our backup." This offseason was pretty good overall, but that was a terrible decision.

Even PFF has him as one of the worst players in a Panthers uniform on Sunday... and I feel like he usually does decently with PFF, lol -
There is a scheme component, but Canales was also HC last year. I think that Canales is playing to his QB, too. This year Bryce is having little success after his first read, so that may be part of the decision making in what routes are being run. I'm not sure. Bryce himself hasn't looked as good 15-20 yards as he did end of last year either. Fwiw, Dalton is not strong armed at all anymore either.

Oh definitely, we are in a better situation. Now if you're saying which QB do I want for a season in a bubble, different thing. But ideally I'd be able to choose someone else lol. -

tbf I think we're just arguing a couple relative positions of "suckage" so it's a bit silly at this point, sorry, lol -

His best 2 years were 2 and 3, but he's just never taken the next step from "young player with promise" to... well, actual ability. I mean he got paid and depending on a player's drive that can really do it. -

I think you are severely underestimating just how bad Bryce Young has been in his career to date statistically. Does that mean he'll ALWAYS be that bad? No, of course not. Perhaps some day that'll change. -

I'd say he's definitely in the bottom half of starting QBs and maybe bottom third. But I don't really care if his label was generational talent. Bryce Young's was super computer. Lawrence wasn't a bigger bust, because he's actually produced significantly more, unless your definition of bust is not actual play but media/fan expectations - in which case, Bryce's was also very high, so I'm not really sure, and if you're talking expectations you have to talk cost because that is part of what built those expectations. Just in terms of pure play to date, Lawrence has been significantly better than Bryce Young and has two decent seasons. Is he a good QB? I don't think so. -

It's particularly telling you leave out 2023 and choose Lawrence's injured year. By no means do I think he's a great QB, but ... Career to date stats - Trevor Lawrence - 62.9% completion percentage, 230 YPG, 3.4% TDs, 2.2% INTs, 6.7 Y/A, total of 1.36 TDs per game (including rushing) Bryce Young - 60.4% completion percentage, 175 YPG, 3.2% TD, 2.2% INTs, 5.8 Y/A, total of 1.18 TDs per game (including rushing) There is no category in which Bryce is better across his career to date. Lawrence is a lower end starter. Bryce may not even reach that bar. -

Players like you described can win some games and do well. But they also can't be top of the league in turnovers while doing so... -

Trevor Lawrence has had multiple seasons throwing for 3.5-4k yards. He's not the generational talent people thought but he also isn't terrible. -

Bryce Young isn’t a bust, the Panthers are | SB Nation https://share.google/oYybGvyvzUOIgbplX From a couple months back, came up on a quick Google about Bryce Youngs processing ability. Emphases how struggles are not his fault but the poor team built around him. I don't really feel like looking for others; it's similar to various things said across the league.
