That's my big fear. Like another poster said, if they can just sit on the run and limit Rico with no cost it could be a rough game for the offense.

It'll be a true measuring stick of Canales' Panthers. This is a team they SHOULD beat easily. But it's the exact kind of game over the last 5 years we've tended to lose handily.

This is my thinking on them too. We don't know their ceiling yet but their floor looks to be depth. This is such a massive improvement from recent drafts. Of course, it's early enough for them to flop but boy are then early results promising. But to your wider point, I think it would have helped the D a ton if we'd landed an edge at the trade deadline. Ah well.

I agree with your overall point but given our QB situation for the last near decade... and I suppose it depends what you mean by great, but Delhomme was a pretty damn good QB for a few years, and in a time when passing was much more difficult. Part of that was the crazy Smitty chemistry, but he also just had that knack for finding something out of seemingly nothing. Anyway I do agree with how impressive what Dowdle is doing is!

Barring a major turnaround, it seems highly unlikely they pick up his 5th. I expect us to limp to around .500 with meh Bryce, being carried by Rico. If he shows some promise and we get into the playoffs he's probably gonna get it, but I firmly believe we can't make the playoffs without him playing at a much higher level.

I would move Teddy up to #5 or #6 tbh.

I'm not all in on drafting a QB with our first, but I'm not against it if there's one our scouts like that is legitimately at the top of our board where we pick. I just don't want to reach.

I don't care how we win either, but I care how a QB plays when it comes to his future with the team. At this point we don't have any other option so that's what most of us are thinking about if he doesn't improve. Also... It's extremely disingenuous to act like those numbers are why people loved Jake. After the 181 game and before that 148 yard game he had a 362 yard 2 TD game (in a loss too!) in a very different league. Had he basically consistently put up numbers like you highlighted we'd never have stuck with him. He had 2 300 yard games in that season and he averaged 200 ypg that year. He was a huge part of some wins and not others... But his shots deep were a big part of keeping the running game going. Different era entirely though.
