  1. Neither Darnold nor Tua have shown enough to warrant much in this particular trade. Qbs on rookie contracts are attractive... when they look like players you expect to build around ... but are either of those two that kind of player right now? If you want to replace your franchise QB as a new coach, you're after picks those teams have to get your guy... Either of those guys certainly could still develop, and while more attractive than Bridgwater, for a team likely to draft a QB this year, they aren't worth a ton more lol... they aren't exactly players you start so the QB you just drafted can learn behind them. They would essentially become assets you acquire to immediately trade. The Dolphins actually have quite a few solid players, but in terms of young players still on rookie deals, they have fewer assets than we do there. They are also on the cusp of making a run at the division so if Houston is set on players in addition to draft picks, that could be a stumbling point. Are they really going to give up e.g. Howard and another asset along with 3 first rounders? Maybe! But do you want a CB to be the headliner on a trade like that? The Jets have far, far less talent than we do, period. But their draft position is consistently valuable in a trade, heh. If they gut what they have they can offer a few nice pieces. Both teams certainly have more to offer in this year's draft, so it depends on how much Houston is valuing players etc, as well as the balance of future picks. I don't think there is certainty that if Watson is traded he's a Panther, but I think we are competitive in that mix because of our young talent on rookie deals and potential star power to pair with it. E.g. I wouldn't be surprised to see CMC and Burns dealt with a bunch of picks.
  2. I believe the new GM and coach will talk some sense into the owner before the draft, but it'll go right up to it before we see movement there.
  3. The Texans want both players and picks and neither of the young QBs on the teams you mention are particularly valuable in this trade. The Panthers have superior assets outside of picks. I wouldn't be surprised if one of those teams comes out on top but I don't think it is hard to imagine how players like Burns, Chinn, CMC and DJ could be attractive as an include or two with multiple 1st rounders and 2nds etc.
  4. I don't think his stock can get higher than now but I agree it doesn't go down until after the draft.
  5. There will always be a market for Watson, even after the draft. But the market will be hottest before it... barring something exceptional (like a team going all in this year having a catastrophic QB injury in training camp)
  6. The Texans are going to lessen his trade value if they refuse to entertain offers until he starts sitting out actual activities. You can't try to force someone like this to play ... even if they call his bluff it'll be terrible for the new coach. Better to build with a bounty of draft picks and good young players.
  7. CarolinaHuddle: "no way I'm trading cmc, burns, Chinn, dj, Anderson, or ymg as part of a deal for watson!!!" Also the Huddle: "this roster is devoid of talent and has no chance of being competitive"
  8. If he went for peanuts maybe, but when the cost is 3+ first rounders I wouldn't need to wonder.
  9. Everyone seems to love Teddy, we will do the swap straight out. Teddy for Wilson. They dont even need to give us any extra compensation for taking their lockerroom cancer off their hands!
  10. Wilson may not necessarily be everyone's favorite person in the locker room but he is and has been a winner. Seems enormously speculative regarding fitterer. No reason to think he wouldn't want him under any circumstances. Price may be too high but that's a different thing.
  11. He isn't here yet because I expect Houston to continue with efforts at reconciliation. As the draft approaches I think that should those efforts fail tides will turn. It doesn't make sense to force him to stay. I also don't think he is necessarily going to prefer here over NY or MIA. But that is different from finding this barely netter than HOU. We will see I guess.
  12. Perhaps it is an error in my interpretation but I thought your past posts implied Carolina was a last resort and might not even be in consideration as better than HOU for him. Consistent reporting suggests strongly otherwise... I agree we are still a bit of a long shot but I think our available assets are undervalued by this board (or maybe they just think all that matters is draft picks)... but that is different from Watson leaning on cams negative experiences to not come here...
  13. They have more draft capital but less capital overall. Depends how far we are willing to go.
  14. Interesting. Pretty clear that paying a lot for a RB doesn't torpedo a team's ability to compete. We also need to remember cmc is a different kind of RB than most, even among highly paid RBs of the past and present.
  15. Highly doubt that is teddy or that he has 2 other burner accounts as suggested here.
  16. They may or may not ever draft someone as good as Watson but they have a good chance of building a better team by trading him for 3 first rounders and a star, than if he just effectively retires. If those are the 2 options they are far more likely to get another great QB with 3 first rounders than with nothing at all.
  17. I have a hard time imagining the Texans torpedoing a new coach and gm just to stick it to a player. If Watson refuses to budge, I just don't see why they would keep him when they will get such incredible returns.
  18. McNair also ignored the search group for GM, if I recall. Heh.
  19. Very few players have this kind of leverage in the NBA and even fewer in the NFL. That teams are so small in the NBA and any one player can have so much more of an impact, it gives each individual player more relative value. The NFL is much more a team game. We haven't seen how Watson will play out yet, so I'm hesitant to declare this some major shift. There have always been holdouts and player movements due to dissatisfaction. Frankly the Texans could use this as an opportunity to fleece the Jets or Dolphins and see if Caserio can't do what they hired him for. Which I think they will do if they can't get Watson enthusiastic about the team again.
  20. Lance played one season in a run first offense where he was hardly asked to carry the load. I like him, but his accomplishments should be seen in that context. I wish we had a full season in 2020 to see him play, tbh.
  21. The quoted poster said this year, not just the best 4 in the league period.
  22. I don't know how you can say they've had the same success. Watson has been a far more reliable QB. I actually like Jameis, but Watson is on a whole other level.
