did we even hear why Arnold quit on the route? Was it zone vs man read that he or Sam messed up?
-
not sure anyone is suggesting we pay him $30m a year yet (may have missed that). but it is worth noting that at least 2 of those were drops, and a couple overthrows. they can clean both those up. if he can get a couple more seconds out of the OL I expect we could see better work deep. I'm not saying he is a complete product but I think today was promising at least.
-
I did not see Darnold stare down his first read every play. He also definitely went through progressions on any play he had time to, but in the 2nd half especially he had almost no time.
-
That will be one of, if not the, longest TD pass in the NFL this week. Brady had a ball that traveled a few yards less in the air I think, but nobody else has come close. edit: Wilson had a longer ball I think. Still... It was a great play.

okay I don't know how we're all defining a "rare throw" but any time a ball travels >40 yards down field after a QB has to move around the pocket to deliver it? I'm gonna call it a rare throw. we haven't had a QB that could slide into the pocket and deliver that kind of throw in, what, how many years? Even Teddy's nice deep completion to Robby last year paled in comparison IMO. Darnold let the ball go at like the 36 yard line and Robby caught it at like the 12. I think Cam has made some posters underappreciate passes travelling >40 yards in the air, heh. here's his passing chart from this week

I thought he had his hands on it and it bounced around after. It was a little high but I didnt think it was uncatchable. I may be wrong tho.
-
Darnold moved to escape pressure and threw a ball 50 yards down field... And the opposite side at that. It was a rare throw.
-
it is very clear once the field is condensed in the red zone, we can't find the space we need to get our skill players the ball. Whomever is at fault for that, it needs to change, or we'll be having some rough Sundays.
-
I agree. Somehow, Moore had 80 yards receiving, but it felt like he wasn't being utilized enough. Robby had that one deep bomb... Just need to get these WRs more involved in the game somehow. The one 2nd half drive that yielded points saw a lot of nice efforts to get WRs the ball in space.

can you explain this take? the way he took hits, bounced back from mistakes, demonstrated significant arm strength, etc... didn't strike me as a game manager. it is true our offensive philosophy is dink and dunkish, but that's partly because of the atrocity that is the OL.
-
they played significantly worse than the stat line will look IMO, but I'm no expert. just looked like there was penetration on every passing play, and Darnold had to get the ball out in ~2.5s every single play to avoid a sack.

the Jets strength is on the DL, which is a direct matchup win for them. It neuters a lot of our advantages, too. Made it hard for us to go deep.

We'll need to hear the coaches take. It looked like Darnold had the ball extended too much as he passed Ricci, but I didn't see enough replays to be sure. To be sure, I'd rather a play like that than throwing an INT into double coverage, given what we know about Darnold. If the fumble was on him, that is easy to correct, and doesn't harken back to his days as a Jet. yeah, the OL is a huge problem. Can't take advantage of that arm strength often when he has to get the ball out so fast.

Decent stats - 24/35, 279 yards, 1 TD, 1 rushing TD. A fumble on a handoff. Overall, impressed with his play as someone that feared the worst... No real bone-headed throws. A couple of misses, but he also had some surprising drops by receivers. The fumble was bad, and against a better team, maybe catastrophic. He (Brady?) needs to find ways to get the receivers involved every drive, and whether it was Darnold or Brady, the redzone plays were pretty bad outside the 2nd quarter. The way he stood tall in the pocket and completed throws with DL about to hit him was impressive. I think this game goes a long way to showing he was not ruined by the Jets. Elite arm strength on display on a few plays, including that incredible bomb to Robby. Still too early to say, but we could have something as he grows with the elite skill players around him. Let's look for a complete game next week!

Very weird game. A couple of drops in the 3rd quarter, a Darnold miss or two, plus weird play calls, let that game get out of control. A win is a win, Darnold has the arm, and did lead a drive that got us points at a critical juncture. I'm happy with him overall, but I hope we see more development next game. -

Burns was held the entire 3rd quarter... he can't make a play every drive. -

I'd rather we get the ball to him in space on a short pass, but I think the OL has collapsed so much he is having to block every play -
