Trading for Darnold, having no back up plan, and not prioritizing OL more was a problem. We knew Darnold was a little shell shocked from playing behind a bad OL so we put him behind an arguably worse one

I get why some didn't want Watson, but it's not a happy time.

Rhule knows PJ is even worse so he'll do what he can. Make no mistake, he isn't happy with Darnold... But we aren't getting a franchise qb mid season. I hope this convinced them to stop fuging around with retreads. -
Execution isn't all on Brady but it seems that players are out of position frequently and I wouldn't be surprised if they were sometimes running the wrong routes (this has been commented on once in a while in broadcasts). It doesn't seem that Brady is properly preparing the offense at all. Sure, Darnold makes EVERYTHING worse... But still.

Joe Person on Watson, Darnold, Tepper, Brady...and more.

The issue is it isn't just Darnold playing poorly. Yes, the offense has given up now, but the receivers / backs / tight ends were in the wrong place, dropping balls left and right, etc and things have looked out of sync since the start in ways that aren't possible to blame Darnold. Ultimately the offense looks poorly prepared, unable to adjust/adapt, etc. Even when it WAS performing in the first halves, it was an awful stinking mess in the 3rd and still struggled situationally. I agree Darnold is a bigger problem than Brady, but Brady has looked BAD this year. -

sure Teddy's best FULL season, but he was better per game with NO and is better so far with DEN than he was with us. Maybe he'll come back down to earth but it isn't like DEN is some crazy high powered offense either... Anderson is having his worst season to date ... again with Joe Brady. Samuel was in a contract year, Davis had a lot to prove. I don't think Brady is THE WORST, he has some killer play design... but it isn't really looking like he is that great, either, especially in the red zone or situationally. -
I firmly believe SBs are a mix of quality of roster, coaching, luck, and timing. Two of those things are largely out of our control - when does the team get hot, when are people getting healthy, etc. Roster is partly there... We are close to an elite defense... Good skill players on offense... but real bad at OL and QB. And yet, OL is an interesting thing, because a couple great additions can change the entire look of a unit. QB, tho... And then there's coaching. Last year, I thought it was a strength... This year, fug, Rhule looks as lost as our offense.

Haha, as much as I dislike Rhule, he did seem to be MUCH better last year, so I think something weird is up. OL is definitely a major problem but, IMO, Darnold is a bigger issue atm. I didn't used to think so, but I think his inability to make quick reads has fuged our offense at every level. Yes, our OL sucks, but even when they actually get him a pocket he just misfires. Unless we're talking about 2 minute offense, strangely enough.

Rapaport: Panthers/ Tepper out of Watson deal

Or... Some of the new information he's lacking is when he will next see a football field... -

That's fair, although it seems like there's every potential angle by all sides being worked right now to save face, potentially try to drive interest etc... It's a weird feeling to be somewhat glad the team didn't mortgage the future for someone with sexual assault allegations while being extremely depressed at the state of our team... -

The OL can be a problem and they can have drafted a good center... Kinda like saying Moton is a good tackle. -

Seems to be the same source saying different things now too. Maybe different sources for that source? haha. -

that is very different from "Watson rejected the Panthers." Heh. -
Apathy is an excellent way to put my thoughts on the franchise. I have no expectation that this coaching staff and front office can draft particularly well, get the most out of players, build a consistent competitive team, etc.

There's apparently some conflict among sources as to if Watson rejected the Panthers, or if the Panthers didn't want to match the Dolphins offer. Not saying anyone in particular is right or wrong, but I suspect we'll be back in the mix in the offseason if he isn't traded before the deadline. I'm not happy in any way. I was very concerned with acquiring Watson because of the accusations against him, but I also don't want to keep watching the garbage heap that is this offense anymore. This season feels completely lost 7 weeks in. The entire offense looks like they've quit. Darnold can't play, Brady can't call plays, the OL sucks, we have more drops than any other team in the league... -
There's a thread on this right now:

The second bit is just someone's take on it. The process is ongoing is pretty key. There's no need for charges to occur for him to be played in the exempt list etc. -

because he's already being paid not to play. once he is being paid TO play, it changes the situation. -

there will always be 2nd / 3rd rnd dudes that end up being studs. I agree that all things considered, the emphasis on WR was a bit of an odd one, given the weakness on OL and what was available. But... BPA etc... ah well. We NEED to fix OL, though. -

3rd rounders are not necessarily going to be exceptional starters out of the gate. The weird 2nd round guard grade thing confuses the poo out of me tho. Hindsight being what it is, I wish we'd gone a different direction with our 2nd round too... or maybe just not awarded Robby a massive contract... but yea, hindsight...
