Frankly all our rookies should be getting plenty of play time on Sunday. Need as much film as possible for the next coaching staff to work with.

Shocking passing statistics for the 2021 Panthers.
mav1234 replied to SCO96's topic in Carolina Panthers
We do. This roster is not nearly as bad as it's played for the last ~3 months... That's on coaching. -
People didn't listen to the clip at all and took a very small piece out of context. That clip was bookended by Sam saying he should have recognized a blitz and on the other end by him saying he isn't playing well enough to win games. And the statement itself was a damn answer to a question about he and Cam suffering behind a bad OL. Cam was brought up in the question...

I keep saying this is on coaching. It's frustrating to see DJ drop passes he can and usually does catch, yes. But when an entire receiving corps is dropping balls left and right, is quitting on routes, looks lost etc... The issue is above the players... -

Ahh. Thought it was a shot at rhules amazing roster building moves lol. -
Yup... Rhule can't get players to play with passion anymore... But maybe his culture all along is a sort of acceptance and apathy of poor play, I dunno

Brady Christensen scores highest ratings of the season at LT again.

Rhule also blamed Sam for Williams, it sounds like something he should have recognized and gone to a hot route for. Still, there were other plays that felt like they were on the OL completely... -

Bad coaching makes good players look worse too... -

Pff thinks 5 sacks were on Darnold. That seems high, but a couple definitely were. -

Hes gotten way worse the last 2 years btw. Big down turn. He was much more consistent years 1 and 2... His drop rate basically doubled from year 2 to 3 and 4... -
Did you just start paying attention to pressers again once Cam came back? He's said over and over "I need to play better", "I made x mistake", etc. Did you watch the segment btw? The reason Cam's name came up is because the reporter *brought Cam up* in a question, and asked if the OL play was at fault for QBs struggles. Darnold basically rephrased the question and said we aren't playing well enough. This was also just after he took responsibility for not seeing a free rusher lol. And the clip even ended with him saying *he* isn't good enough to win football games.

There were plenty of drops when PJ and Cam were playing tbh. 3 of his 8 came in a 2 game stretch with those two. Chubba has had plenty of drops. Drops were overall worse very early... Robby seemed to play harder for Cam and PJ for one game but he's still been poo overall with or without Darnold ... -
Honestly outside the Cardinals game, the offense looks overall similar the last few weeks as the preceding few. Brady wasn't good but he was far from our only problem.

Christensen, who Matt Rhule sees as a guard because of his arm length, is promising. Better coaching and interior line play, and who knows. At a minimum he appears servicable. I'm curious how his run blocking grades were. -

The offense is a problem top to bottom, but let's start at the top: the coaches. They're the reason for this shitshow. Let's take WRs... DJ is a good example of regressing promising young players, and taken in aggregate it's clearly a coaching problem, not a player issue... The last two years DJs catch % has declined by 10% to ~56%, while he has dropped 15 passes the last 2 seasons vs 7 total his first two years. Yea QB play has been bad these last couple years but when it's every receiver dropping balls at every down and distance we have to stop looking at what player is to blame imo. -
I actually think we got some very good players the last couple years in the draft... And like you, I am really worried they're going to be ruined by this piss poor coaching. You can see the regression in many of our 2nd year / younger players, and the rookies are largely failing to develop as you'd expect... Its the total lack of development that has me done with Rhule. I actually didn't expect us to win much this year anyway but seeing critical players seeming to play worse and be out of position more the longer they have with these coaches??? Bad sign.
-
I don't get why posters are getting angry at Darnold. I mean... He isn't good but the coaches are the idiots putting him out there. He isn't the reason Cam was benched... I kinda doubt Sam and Cam have any kind of animosity, anyway. I don't think Sam meant to throw shade at Cam at all. now RA shitting on fans or Miller shrugging at sack numbers... That's kinda bullshit lol.

With special guest appearances from a couple decent Temple players and a whole bunch nobody else would sign!

Panthers have to “make a true investment” in the OL
mav1234 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I hope we stick with Darnold (and PJ as our backup lol) if Rhule is retained for 2022. Don't waste any more resources on QBs for this shitty staff to ruin/fail to rehab. -
Offense and defense got figured out after the Dallas game. Honestly I think we may even win that game with CMC, but it's all over after that point. CBs started jumping all our routes, D was exposed as soft later in games, etc.
-
CRA was pointing out not every QB plays scared behind this line and that is a fair point. He wasn't acting like Cam and PJ never panic, but there's a huge difference in how they play relative to Darnold. That doesn't mean they're overall playing well, or even necessarily much better than Darnold is lol. But their footwork doesn't look as terrified.
-
Great having an OL coach as HC, isn't it?
-
All good. Darnold would have been better with better OLs but still no guarantees from him in terms of franchise-level talent... I do think it's ridiculous mismanagement to try to rehab a qb behind the garbage we did but hey the hubris of this staff knows no limits.
