I mean if he throws too many picks, just run it. The threat of the deep ball will be more effective at opening up the run game than the threat of the 5 yard hail mary.

Dave Canales Panthers are 3-6 following a win
mav1234 replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
There is something quite similar though about the losses to the Cardinals and Saints. The blowouts tell me something different - I think the team losses confidence against complete teams rapidly. That is a coaching aspect, but also young players. Tbh, I can live with that for now if they beat the teams they're supposed to and give a good fight in other games (as they did). But the Cardinals and Saints games were stories of the offense either giving the game away or being unable to do ... Well, anything. While that is on Canales, too, both those games also featured standout (or truthfully standard) performances from our QB early and sometimes across the entire game. I do think it's hard to evaluate Canales when he has a QB that can't or won't execute an NFL offense for huge stretches or entire games. But there are signs of concern. Still, the very fact we had a win streak being a predictable as we were indicates the team has come along. And most of the team showed up vs the Saints, and I really think it's clear that was an incredibly winnable game with a different QB. -
I think canales and a lot of folks thought Bryce had turned the corner after the benching. It looked like it in many ways, and I don't honestly blame.them for thinking that... But it was a huge roster building blunder to not at least bring in a decent backup. Even if Bryce hadnt regressed, if he ended up injured, we were left with Andy Dalton... They had to know he doesn't have it anymore from seeing him practicing.

By the time Cams bad games came he had awesome games first for extended time.

Decided to look into BTJs struggles... From earlier this year: "Now, we've all seen the term "hospital ball" get thrown around concerning Thomas Jr. and his QB Trevor Lawrence. Let's get one thing clear: not every in-breaking route is a hospital ball. Tough catches over the middle are going to happen for even the best receivers in the NFL, they're going to get hit on digs and over routes, especially with NFL defenses playing more aggressive quarters coverage with the safety driving on dig routes hard." https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/sophomore-slump-or-worse-whats-going-on-with-jaguars-brian-thomas-jr-and-cardinals-marvin-harrison-jr/ Talks about him breaking off routes mid field too.

I feel like people assume risk-averse QBs with weak arms are great for a WCO...

So the advanced metrics are saying Bryce is doing really well throwing deep, with his vaunted big time throw metric at 5th in the league and his adjusted completion percentage somehow at 7th (that's some big adjustment). And people wonder why advanced metrics get questioned. We aren't throwing deep because Bryce doesn't take the opportunities. He is struggling with his reads. Other advanced stats show that, so...

Absolutely. Despite the turnovers and the terrible slips we only gave up 17. If the offense could have mustered a single productive drive after the start of the game ...
-
Er... The defense that gave up 17 total points, despite two turnovers from the O and Horn falling twice (to give up 14 points?). They weren't great but good enough to win. Some of the guys on d may have thought they'd arrived but honestly I think the O was the problem. Bryce just can't make the ball.

Persuasive argument there

Ahhh okay that makes more sense. Sophomore slumps happen but this was clearly much more.

Holy crap you aren't kidding. 15% drop rate, only a 50% catch rate. What's going on with him? Approximately the same targets per game but a huge drop in production... I haven't really paid any attention but that's an insane drop off.

This is just completely damning. And it matches the eye test. He had a few game stretch last year where he was pushing the ball down field effectively. There was little to no pressure, though. And defenses got the tape and figured it out. Bryce is now being baited into ridiculously easy to see interceptions. He struggles past his first read. His strength is backyard football but his balls often take so long to arrive defenders have time to recover. He just isn't it. Maybe someday he finds some mojo as a backup and emerges again but I'm skeptical.

But dude have you seen his BTTs rankings for his career wowza

Small sample size since I'm pretty sure this is from this year. Burrow wasn't looking phenomenal in his only full game but I'm sure would have bounced back.
-
I don't want his contract but he's unquestionably better than Bryce. That isn't a high bar to clear, lol.

Clausen was another guy that just played with superior talent his entire life so it didn't matter how good he was. He didn't have a good arm but he also just sucked on the mental aspect. I still remember writing an angry email to some Panthers email in 2010 about how awful the team was. Jerry fuging Richardson called me lol (along with a few others that had done the same). He blamed it all on Fox hahaah

How many Bills players are out saying some of the players were too comfortable etc though? That's what I mean. The Bills are consistently saying the Fins wanted it more, were tougher, etc. it's very different to have multiple players say the things they are saying. Edit: I don't think this is the end of the world or something though and we have to see how the team responds moving forward.

Ahahaha I meant the fact Bryce couldn't beat them when he was daring them to lol

This is how I feel. When your QB is losing you games you have to bench him. You can't let him keep going.
