Corral was ALWAYS a reach (as a long term starter for fans to bank on not where he was drafted, bad wording choice on my part). He can compete in camp and may surprise us but we need to take a QB in the first as long as one of the good ones is left.
-
Some posters are confusing projection of place on a roster when drafted based on scouts perception of a player(such as starter, depth, development) vs long term career success. 2nd and 3rd round picks are not "mid late fluff"... They have a lot of value, both in terms of potential starters based on projections and in trades if we needed to move up etc

Glad you posted this. Feels a bit like before Cam would get new deals where people would act like the player desperately wanted to leave...

It's important to note the franchise doesn't consider future firsts as first rounders when considering this. I think it's *possible* we could get more than a 2nd and 3rd for him in the future, if he develops the rest of the year, but I think we need him and are more likely to keep him

Rams Offering Two (Future) Firsts for Burns
mav1234 replied to OnlyPantherFaninMaine's topic in Carolina Panthers
If only they'd made the trade then in three years we could have drafted Burns' replacement with one of the picks and would be able to look forward to trading that player in another four years! It's clear Fitt thinks we can retain Burns long term. -
Rams Offering Two (Future) Firsts for Burns

Sure they are due for a collapse, but I don't expect a top 10 pick in 2-3 years as others have suggested. And I definitely agree on picks sooner than later. -

We will get plenty of interest regardless and this trade means we have to fill two of the most important positions in football instead of one... -
Rams Offering Two (Future) Firsts for Burns

2 years is near enough I don't expect a collapse... Frankly the picks would probably be higher in the first a bit after that, haha -
Rams Offering Two (Future) Firsts for Burns

DE is arguably the second most important position on the field, and we'd basically be trading a pro bowler / potential star for what'll probably be 2 picks in the mid to late twenties two and three years from now. I'd pass unless they are sure they can't re sign him... Salary cap is malleable. I don't think he walks. -
Are We Really Not Going To Talk About This?!
mav1234 replied to Castavar's topic in Carolina Panthers
Rams firsts seem likely to be late first round... And being in the future is a major let down, imo. Salary cap is a sticky situation though, but then DE arguably becomes a better pick at the top of the first than QB. I don't think we will replace Burns' production easily, even with his flaws. -
But let's be realistic here. If you could make those kicks consistently, you'd be in the NFL. He missed two that he has made before. He has been very consistent this year. Dude didn't lose his job over one game in no small part because on the year he's been overall very consistent. If he'd missed a few others this year then we'd probably be seeing competition at kicker. If he misses a few more coming up, maybe we do find a different kicker this year. But as of now, it's an overreaction to cut him or bring in competition imo.

I don't think that's true, because I don't think PJ is very good ultimately, and a few more games and Baker can't hit the snap requirements for the pick upgrade. Hell, we could trot PJ out for one more game and sam out for 2 and I think Baker wouldnt be able to hit the snap count. PJ seems like a good backup but I'm just skeptical he won't keep crashing back to earth, as backups tend to. We will see.
-
PJ is very likely to lose the job to Baker or Sam down the stretch, so we will probably see one or both of them. If not, no reason to give either of these dudes a chance over him just because. Good luck on other teams Baker and Sam.

I may be wrong but I felt Fields was more athletic and more dynamic with his legs. Could be wrong - havent seen as much Stroud as I did Fields just due to moving to another country lol. Stroud is / seems better throwing the ball though. I still think Fields has a shot of being great though.

Inside the Carolina Panthers' three seasons of quarterback failure
mav1234 replied to Vox's topic in Carolina Panthers
That's not what that quote meant I don't think .... The quote is in reference to Herbert's performance in that game. The article itself clarified this. That's why it starts with "even as"... And this bit RIGHT before it: "But behind the scenes, a few of the scouts who had pushed for Herbert squirmed as they watched the 22-year-old throw for 330 yards, showing the poise and command of an offense they believed could have stabilized the position for a decade or more." EDIT: woops see that someone else caught this Behind a day hahah. -
PJ got the highest PFF grade for a qb so far this year
mav1234 replied to uncfan888's topic in Carolina Panthers
Good for PJ, hope he keeps it up! -
The return value was good, but I can't help but think we're unlikely to get anywhere near the potential production from those picks as we would have had from CMC the next few years, if we really are going for a young offensive minded HC. We just traded away our most valuable piece there...

I don't particularly want to see any of the QBs on this roster again, but one of them has to play. Darnold might be the best of a bad bunch, so...

I think a better question is more about if the team is in a better position roster wise for the next 3-5 years than when Rhule took over. In that regard, I feel strongly it is, but that's less about Rhule and more about finally seeming to have an OL core, a young secondary, and a few great pieces on the DL.

NFL: Snyder says league "can't ---- with me" because he has dirt
mav1234 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think there's a bit of wishful thinking here... I suspect the dirt is personal indescretions and not fixing a Superbowl so the Panthers would lose... -
Some positivity regarding the current Roster
mav1234 replied to Kentucky Panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I didn't mind it for the rookie... But the QB competition going as long as it did was asinine. Although seeing what we saw, maybe the coaches saw what we are seeing on the field from Baker and that is why, lol. -

I remember thinking he could get a lot out of players the first few weeks of 2020. How wrong I was...
