No, I don't. Wilks needs someone innovative. Maybe Reich.

"Remember that time in 2021 when Darnold had 3 straight 300 yard passing games? If only he'd had a real OL...."
-
I blame Jake... I will always remember when Matt Moore gave me a Vikings slaughter for my birthday back in 2009, haha. Edit: I think that was actually a Double Trouble pop off too... Been a while...
-
I would say the point is it's been a while since we could talk about positives from the QB position other than a couple plays in complete isolation (whereas Darnold had a decent day overall), and with as miserable as it's been around here for a while, at least there's that. But yeah, being the best QB on our roster is somewhat meaningless right now. He does have several games to change that, but as you said, we've seen this script before and I also feel like we know how it ends with Darnold...

Home wins are great but at some point we need to do more than just win at home... I'm not on the Wilks bandwagon. It's been so long since we had an NFL coach, I see the allure. But I'd rather go with an offensive HC for once.
-
He has a couple of surprising throws, but let's be real: he's a veteran now and he has to be expected to make those throws. We still had a terrible 3rd down conversion rate, he still made bad choices, but overall he was definitely improved...He protected the ball and had some heads up plays, especially a hilarious one to pick up a forced fumble and roll into the endzone. His long bomb to DJ was a thing of beauty. Something to build off of but it wasn't an amazing game. He did all he was asked to do, threatened deep, and protected the ball - which is more than we've had from a QB lately.

I liked Matt Moore but this is the Huddles opinion on a QB in a nut shell hahaha
-
This is where I am, too. I'm not opposed to him coming back dirt cheap as a backup if he keeps protecting the ball and managing the offense, but he played the same or better in his first few games and we saw what happened there.
-
definitely, and honestly, a big reason I'm happy with wins is I see potential from a lot of young players etc. I get that may be copeium or w/e, but I don't mind. we need the right talent evaluators in for QB though and I'm honestly not sure what to make of our current GM etc because I dont know what was Rhule vs Fitt and his team.
-
Mahomes also benefited from a talented roster. I'm sure the chiefs take him higher than 10 if they can, even. But the reason I don't get stressed is just as many of today's great QBs weren't drafted in like the top 3 as were...
-
I think the point is you're just as likely to get the next Mahomes at 1 as... Where he was drafted, at 10. Edit: the likelihood is very low either way lol
-
huh?
-
Wilks does not seem like a particularly good coach - a massive upgrade over Rhule, sure, but whatever we call coaching on offense is lacking teeth. Why is it that we're a bad team playing like a bad team but the teams around us are good teams playing shitty? Maybe we're all a mix of shitty and good, lol.
-
this is another reason I'm really not worried. There's a ton of teams close to our record, and being 9th right now could become ~5th by end of day (guestimate/napkin math).
-
you can, you can hope for whatever outcome you want. I understand why people are putting so much emphasis on draft position, but I've seen too many top 5 busts and I'd rather see development of personnel we have leading to wins. Just a difference of opinion
-
you can't ask NFL players/coaches to tank. It doesn't work. Too few games in a season and big contracts on the line. as such, when teams lose, and lose a lot, it is often due to lack of talent. hence the huge holes that most top 10 drafting teams have. If your team is in good shape you can afford to trade up to get a final piece, like a QB.

Brian Burns has never had a double digit sack season
mav1234 replied to Growl's topic in Carolina Panthers
yeah, this is where I'm at, too. I do understand why the Panthers didn't want to trade him, but I probably make the trade personally when the 2nd this year got thrown in. but then we have a huge, gaping hole at DE, which is unlikely to be properly filled next year or who knows in how long. -

do you disagree? Its the reality of the trade -
Got the game tracker going and I'll tune in if it looks close. Hoping for a big 49ers win
-
the very fact he is looking down field and completing passes down field is a significant improvement from the last few games out of him actually

Bucs, Falcons lose...let's have some more pie
mav1234 replied to ladypanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
holy poo do we actually control our own destiny? hahahahah edit: ahh no need one more loss from Falcons and Bucs, lol. -
because we traded less for him and don't have him on contract next year.

reminder the trade was the equivalent of 2 2nds and a 3rd due to their timing. I get fans don't care and would rather just stockpile future assets, but I guarantee if the Rams had offered 2 firsts and a 2nd in this coming draft he wouldn't be a Panther anymore. -
my opinion is you let him play out the rest of the year. He's not gonna light the league on fire, lol. But if he looks like an acceptable backup, sign him to a limited extension and let him be a vet stop gap, like we should have had with Teddy Bridgewater, while the new coach/staff get their systems in place and get their guy in the draft.
-
I'm fine with this plan even if we draft a QB "early" in this draft. Darnold is, by all accounts, a good teammate. Get a new young offensive minded coach in, if he's ok with Darnold as a vet stopgap, let's do it.
