Scott Fowler on game, Young, Panthers. Not wrong
mav1234 replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I haven't looked at all the QB prospects but maybe there's a historically undersized QB with bad fundamentals we can reach for -
Impossible to win if the most important position on the field plays that poorly. But at least he wasn't alone in sucking...

Mayfield and Darnold are both much more physically gifted. Their questions were always decision making (frankly imo still are) That was supposedly Young's strength but I feel he's as inconsistent there as his footwork is.
-
Icky had a terrible game but has had a good overall season... So no.
-
Uhhh Bryce was blitzed many times... And they were effective when they usually arent. But the front four also got pressure for them.

Pretty hard to build a defense with a bunch of cast aways. We gave up everything to put our offense in a place to succeed and well that went real well.

Almost no passes beyond 10 yards. Yuck.

That's how I feel, too, but I'm willing to be wrong. I just don't expect that to happen.

He's been the reason we've been in games, he's been the reason we've lost games, he's even been why we've pulled out a narrow win. I'd like to see him actually take over a game and really win it for us. I just don't think he's able to...

What Bryce really needs is to play the Panthers defense
-
I thought I saw his arm get punched as he was going harder. Also says a lot more about you than the hit itself
-
I do think it was a better punch than that, but imo that's irrelevant - the dude needs to fuging slide in that circumstance. He's not getting a first down either way.

I don't blame people for not *giving up* on Young after this game, but realistically, this is much more similar to his career to date than the games vs KC and TB (imo his 2 best) were. That is what concerns me. This wasn't just a ho-hum meh kind of day, which tbh I was expecting (and how i'd describe NO and NYG), but it was a "wheels fall off, Young fugs the team over" kind of day (his opening drive fumble and opening half fumble absolutely ruined our chances of being competitive). He wasn't alone in his sucking, no, but unlike, say, our OL which has played near the top of the league all year - he simply 'returned to form.' If the lows are this low, his highs just aren't worth leaning / building a team around. Because although I really liked what he did vs TB and KC (and to an extent the Eagles, but I think we saw some cracks there too), he is ultimately severely limited in terms of physical talent and has yet to really deliver a total performance of a game. Not saying cut him. I think he'd probably be a pretty good backup, tbh. But let's start looking to rebuild our QB room this season and have a real competition in the offseason.

Basically agree 100%. Cam didn't need to be the most accurate passer to be an incredible player and quarterback, but the way he approached and played the game was ahead of his time to the point where a lot of idiot fanbase didn't really understand exactly what we had. But... Only thing I'll say is Cam also broke himself, in part, as any NFL player with his mindset would when giving it all. We did try to provide him some support by Gettleman and Hurney were fuging idiots with how they approached that - personally I think as much or more with what coaches they brought in, rather than necessarily / only with the talent they tried to put around him. Chud was our only innovative OC in Cam's entire time as a Panther...

I'm down waiting until next year given our draft position but I still think we need a QB out of this draft, even if it's developmental in 3rd/4th. Someone young and hungry. -
I mean trading down almost always sounds like a good plan but unless you're taking late round peanuts, there needs to be a blue chip player someone else wants, which is usually a QB. We're going to very likely be drafting at 4 or later I suspect, where both QBs and Hunter should be gone...
-
I'd be down for QB, but I think we'll be deciding between DL and WR. With the top 2 QBs gone by 4/5, I don't see trading down as likely to be easy / worthwhile. TMac looks really good... And DL is a big need but I just don't love taking a DT that high and none of the edges seem worth #4. I may be wrong tho, playoffs can change things.

I'm not saying Bryce is done, can't ever be starter quality, etc... but if in our final sample size of this year we've got 3 (or more, still season to go ...) bad games from him, vs 3 good games (maybe 1 or 2 great), and the rest are somewhere between below average to slightly above it... We can be sure QB is a position that might have an upgrade out there. At a very minimum we need to bring in competition in the offseason for Bryce - and not just grandpa red rocket, but somebody Canales thinks could really develop. I do think Bryce has improved and I'm not suggesting cutting him, but I just don't think it's wise to go into next season without another plan.

Officially Eliminated from Playoffs
mav1234 replied to Leeroy Jenkins Ph.D.'s topic in Carolina Panthers
I think our defense is so very bad we need to keep everyone capable out there. Clowney has been a bright spot. We can rotate young guys in but those dudes aren't getting play time cause they're not very good atm -

Oh no. -
He's promising, but almost all those yards came on a broken coverage. He did look open other times but Bryce couldn't get him the ball, however we'll have to see from the all22 how it went. I'm excited about what he brings to us and I'm not ready to say what his ceiling is yet, but I'm also not ready to go with a star in the making. It's good we have more games to evaluate him with. If he was really that guy, we wouldn't be needing to draft a receiver early this coming draft or go big in FA . But as of today we still need to.

Canalas is runs an undisciplined team
mav1234 replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
Canales is working with what we have on offense, I think. -
The defense could not get off the field, and they frequently were put on short fields... Offense was not good, to put it lightly. Chuba was largely contained. Coker had a great TD on broken coverage but showed real speed to take it all the way. OL had their worst game of the season. Young had terrible turnovers, missed throws, and just looked too much like Old Bryce.
-
That's fair, but all I'm saying is that Canales thinks Ward is that guy, go for it.
-
QB is a position like any other. If an upgrade is available and it's the pick you think upgrades the team most... Go for it
