  1. I missed the first drive - are you talking about that? or the ball that he was hit throwing? That woulda been a phenomenal catch
  2. this is probably Darnold's best half, very impressive placement and using different depths but his inability to connect with Moore is very rough. need to iron that out!
  3. at least vs the Steelers our D made them really grind it out
  4. At very least, he is showing he has good potential as a backup. Protecting the ball and making the smart plays. Maybe with time he'll grow into carrying McAdoo's offense the way we all want...
  5. I don't think this makes a lot of sense. Very few QBs outside the first round work well... Better to try our luck at a first round prospect we like and try again if it doesn't work out.
  6. There's no one formula that is the only thing that works, but even the Rams drafted a QB very high and rode him to the SB. Sure they then built a roster the most unorthodox way ever after to win, but still. Hard to argue they didn't have success with their first rounder.
  7. Yeah np - I think most of us appreciate thoughtful analyses and there's a few out there on this. I was very sure QBs busted more than anyone else yesterday and decided I'd see if my suspicions were right and turns out it is nowhere near that simple.
  8. I actually think the whole "Qbs bust more than anyone else" thing is a bit overstated. They're one of the harder groups but year to year it depends, sometimes they aren't as bad as others. Some analyses suggest other positions can be more prone to busts: https://walterfootball.com/nfldraftoffensivetackles.php https://theriotreport.com/more-than-50-of-first-round-picks-are-busts-and-other-terrifying-draft-statistics/2/ https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2441018-which-positions-are-the-safest-riskiest-at-the-top-of-the-nfl-draft Kinda seems like QBs have one of the highest bust rates (not the highest) but also if they're first round hits they tend to be very good. Not surprising tbh given QBs are drafted for their potential as much as existing ability.
  9. I think something happened in interviews with Fields that made teams doubt him somehow. I just don't understand how else it happened. I'm not saying that was deserved, I think he's developing nicely overall and wouldn't be surprised if he's one of the top 5 QBs in the league in the next 3 years. But, he was 1b for like two years. Something happened.
  10. Herbert's success had a lot to do with that, IMO. Fields on the Jets would probably have them at 9 or 10 wins, though I'm a bit of a Fields homer.
  11. To me the lesson of the 2020 Jets is that it's ridiculously hard to actually tank in the NFL, because even atrocious teams with bad coaches and bad QB play can find ways to win on the field. So nothing is a lock no matter how hard you try. You can't ask players to lay down and be run over. Some of them are fighting for their futures. And the lesson of the 2022 Jets is how big a difference competent coaching makes, imo.
  12. In a sense he's right, in that you never really know before a guy plays in the NFL (and for some time at that), but if player evaluations were really worthless across the board you wouldn't see the success rate of draft picks decline with draft position on average. There's always going to be hits and misses, but QB evaluations can give you an idea of how a player might do.
  13. Almost like coaching matters... Who knew
  14. Yeah this is why I'm not super bullish on Sam's recent play...looks good for a backup level but we're 5 years in and should be seeing more. Oh well.
  15. I mean I think it's worth pointing out a few of those afc first rounders were drafted with traded picks / traded for, and in I think none of those cases did teams tank to get them. I'm all for a first round QB if they think that guy is the one, and doing whatever it takes to get them. Would be nice to give up fewer assets to do so, but I don't stress wins and losses because the next coach is still IMO more important.
  16. Lol "if only Darnold played with Hall of Fame players...." Darnold has protected the ball and the offense has limited his opportunities for mistakes. I think he's showing he can be an OK backup. But, all of us should hope for someone dynamic and someone the offense expands for, rather than contracts for. Anyway I hope Darnold continues to improve. By all accounts he's a good guy. I think it's likely these are his last games as a Panther, and I hope he makes the most of it.
  17. Why do you think one of these QBs would have more questions than Corral? Where are you drawing that line? Corral had a bad injury and we have no idea how he's going to progress. He had terrible coaching but looked absolutely atrocious. Not all on him, but also certainly nothing to look forward to next year. If I was a GM, I wouldn't even consider him in any roster-building outside of potential depth - if he proves he can be a backup, awesome. If he somehow is more than that, amazing, but that's a very steep hill to climb.
