  1. That's true, although it also depends ... A lot of top selection QBs have the chance to show something if they had decent-to-not-abysmal rookie campaigns. Jones, Darnold, Mayfield, Tannehill all survived a coach transition. Rosen did not but that was a unique situation. But it does seem the best strategy is for a HC to pick his QB. Also means no excuses. My concern is more for the player's development myself but I do see that angle.
  2. Burrows played against such better opponents it's also hard to compare. OFC he had much better teammates as well, so... We will see how things develop, Pickett may turn out to be a great pro, but I think we will have other players of greater value available. Watch us take a fuging LB or something lol
  3. I don't want Rhule trying to develop a young QB. It won't work. fug, I don't know if he can develop a young OL either. But I think a bad coaching year is less likely to ruin a stud OL than a reach QB... Rhule shouldn't be back, but if he is, I hope his hands are tied on future asset trades.
  4. Tbf to pickett, his 2nd best season (2020) was Covid shortened and he bad a total of 21 TDs in 9 games. Burrows in his 2nd best had 23 TDs in 13 games. Burrows made better decisions with the ball no doubt but Picket did have a productive 2020 that was shortened by both Covid and injury. Pickett isn't someone I want at 6, but at this point it seems likely to me if Rhule is back. Burrows looked a bit better in his big year but honestly Pickett has looked very good at times this year, too.
  5. So uh if the process is 1000% working, does that mean this is part of the process?
  6. I know you're talking to someone else, but I just wanted to say I agree with this... I dont think Pickett looks like as good a prospect as those QBs... But a lot can change in interviews and workouts. I was just arguing dumb semantics tbh.
  7. are you really going to act like 2020 was a normal college sports season and played the same number of games? lol... He also had 8 TDs in 2020 on the ground btw. I know as Panthers fans we like to act like rushing TDs are stolen from the poor RBs for some reason, but it is important to note he had 21 total TDs in 9 games in 2020, up from 15 total in 12 games the previous year. He also increased his per game yardage total. I'm not saying he had multiple amazing years, but you are the one that defined an 11 game, 1800 yard, 21 total TD as a productive season, not me. If that is the case, you have to admit Pickett has had 2 productive seasons too, lol.
  8. I don't know what stats they were looking at... imo this isn't like the Rivera era where the team was playing well but we all could see the blunders he'd make coaching-wise. This is like... a total dumpster fire. Dunno why people defend him at all.
  9. Pickett had 21 tds in 9 games in 2020 (his 2nd best season) vs Allen's 21 tds in 11 games (his 2nd best). He averaged ~100 more yards in the air per game than Allen too. Allen took care of the ball a little better in his second best season but not by a ton (keep in mind Allen threw the ball far less than Pickett). As physical prospects they aren't at all comparable, but in terms of lack of multi-year high-level production they certainly are.
  10. tbf Pickett has a pretty clear progression too. His yards per game and TD% increased pretty much every year and if last season had been 12-13 game we'd be looking at ~3500 yards and ~18-20 passing TDs, plus the rushing TDs he had (he had 8 in 9 games last year)... so while not a great season it is a step up from the previous year by quite a bit. Lance and Herbert were 100% not considered surefire prospects tho. They were both risks. I don't recall Watson well enough to say. Wilson was the 2nd overall and would have gone first probably in a non-Lawrence draft.
  11. if you're going to call Allen having 2 years of production, Pickett has multiple as well - they had the same number of total TDs in their 2nd most productive season, and Pickett played in 5 fewer games than Allen in that season (Allen's 2017 vs Pickett's 2020). Keep in mind 2020 was also the covid year. I already mentioned Cam's time at Blinn was discounted by many, tbh, understandably. I'm not saying the situations are the same (they def. aren't), but you seemed to be suggesting there was only 1 example of a guy with 1 productive year, and I'm just sharing that isn't true. Circumstances are definitely different, but my greater concern isn't with his productivity in college and more what his ultimate ceiling really is. Well, that and the fact our coaches blow so couldn't develop him at all.
  12. Shaq's had some good plays the last couple weeks I think... although my attention hasn't been fully on games so I may be wrong. But overall, it looks like every player regresses the longer they're exposed to this staff. I hope Tepper can see what is obvious to us and we move on this year.
  13. tbf Cam was considered a one year wonder by many (his juco stuff was discounted initially). Josh Allen had one decent season (and not even a great one). Murray had only one great year (really only 1 year as a starter, but still). I'm sure there are others. edit: but I agree that I don't think we should take him, fwiw.
  14. he looked great preseason for sure. give him another full offseason and season with this staff and he'll probably be out of the NFL. our WR coaching is particularly bad - DJ is a good example of how even a great receiver is regressing under these clowns... It isn't too late for DJ (he'll probably escape to another team), but it probably will be for some of these guys.
  15. our coaching staff actively makes players worse, lol. what a fuging shitshow.
  16. Pickett looks good at times but I get a bit concerned about the single season of production. Then again, I'm poo at player evaluation, especially when it comes to QBs. Unfortunately for all of us, so is our staff.
  17. Nobody can answer that cause Rhule hasn't fuging played him enough. We can't rule him out as a possibility there though...
  18. Giddy for Gabbert wasn't until after Luck pulled out, tho... Rumors luck wouldn't come out started late in the college season... Before Cams meteoric rise it was Gabbert vs Dareus. What a mistake either would have been! Glad I was wrong about Cam hahaa.
  19. Plus the promise of a new coach... There was a lot to hope for in a new Panthers chapter. 2010 was also the year a bunch of us got personal calls from Richardson for writing angry emails about the team, too. It was a different time.
  20. 2010 was worse in season imo, but we all knew the pain was temporary. If you think 2021 is bad wait until Rhule 2022... It can always get worse...
  21. I wouldn't be upset with missing the playoffs this year if the team was competitive but due to one or two pieces we just weren't there yet... But it isn't. No identity, no toughness. It's a dumpster fire. Rhule needs to fuging go.
  22. Rhule is bound to Sam and needs to make excuses. He mortgaged assets for him. He sucks, Rhule sucks. Clean the house... That said ...Although Rhule is definitely coddling Sam and has been harsher on Cam, my understanding was that he finally broke down last press conference and said you couldn't evaluate either guy because of how bad protections been. I didn't watch Rhule's answer itself, though, so I may be wrong.
  23. In limited action he's shown he is still very good... Maybe a ton is an exaggeration though. The point about wanting to stay local may also matter though.
  24. It'll be interesting to see how negotiations with Reddick and Gilmore go... Both could command a ton of money but supposedly have bought into rhules culture lol.
