  1. It also isn't just giving vets their dues; there are significant been fits short and long term to both player and team to letting a rookie QB learn on the bench. It isn't the only way to do things, sure, but it also has it's upside. Corral will get his chance (so, too, will Pickett some day).
  2. Incredible person and player that made a lasting impact on professional sports and large segments of American society. He tirelessly campaigned for justice and equality. He will be sorely missed. RIP
  3. I wish the enthusiasm of fans guaranteed success for a player on the field. I'm behind whomever we play. I don't believe this will be Corral's only opportunity. Very few NFL players with significant talent / college hype only get one. Even Clausen got at least 3 chances, lol.
  4. I don't see a problem with a competition this early. The reality is Baker needs to get a handle on the playbook more than chemistry with one particular set of guys, especially considering he will certainly play with some of backup dudes throughout the season. And tho I doubt it is possible, if Corral or Darnold somehow beat out Mayfield, I wouldn't be upset. But... If Rhule refuses to name a starter out of some assforward strategy of gamesmanship, I'll get annoyed.
  5. He does need reps but a few days alternating in camp won't ruin his potential chemistry with receivers. He's also likely to throw to several non first teamers throughout the season. I get what you're saying but I think Baker could use the competition (I think it can bring out the best in these guys), and he's enough of a vet I don't think it's gonna hurt his development. Let's see how Rhule handles this longer term. I just hope it doesn't turn into another moment of Rhule Strategy where he drags out a decision to "keep em guessing" in the name of "competitive advantage".
  6. It's possible he does believe Sam was put in a bad situation and still can recognize he isn't a good QB. Those are not mutually exclusive and as someone that has been in both those shitty situations he's uniquely able to comment on them. And by all accounts Darnold is a good teammate. He just sucks as a player. Teammates support each other. Or they should, heh. It's a business, sure, but a big part of that business relies on comraderie. No need to read into this much.
  7. Jones was extremely pro ready... Corral was a mid round pick taken for his upside that is the total opposite of Jones in that regard. He certainly could develop fast but for once the Panthers made a smart move and got a starting quality QB for very cheap so we don't need to rush a player out before he's ready.
  8. Corral is extremely unlikely to play at a higher level than Mayfield and even Darnold early in camp or likely at any point early this season even if he is ultimately the guy and better than them overall. There is a serious learning curve in the NFL, and I hope Corral makes the jump quick, but I'm not giving up on him as a prospect even if he doesn't see the field this year.
  9. I don't think that there was anything close to what the rumors were about Mayfield with Cam - and not before imo the injuries took significant toll. I mean, we saw how much people loved Cams return in the locker room last year... Of course last year also shows you how much locker room love gets you without wins. It just seems the Mayfield rumors have been consistent and stronger when it comes to players negative feelings about him.
  10. I didn't bring up Cam. I responded to someone that did. We've heard from multiple sources that Mayfield divided the browns lockerroom. We never heard that about Cam. As to Cam he didn't get an extension because his injury permanently reduced his abilities and it was pretty much obvious to everyone, but he wanted to still be the starter, so the best situation was to let him try that elsewhere. That and Tepper and/or Rhule wanted a reset on the franchise. It was never because he was bad in the locker room.
  11. Cam was never credited with dividing a locker room etc. Fans got upset with his behavior at times, sure, but it never seemed like players or coaches did...
  12. Any day now will be the last 24 hours for sure
  13. The way you know how is to read what they source. If you don't believe it for one reason or another, so be it. You don't have to agree with their conclusions to utilize their research, either... Sometimes the research they do (in this case scholarly work) can help point you to other experts etc. For me, fact checkers are as much about what they are citing and summarizing as whatever their opinion is on material.
  14. I've disagreed with plenty of outcomes of fact checkers but the one in question from Snopes appears accurate and the sources they cite seem in line with what they're reporting.
  15. poo, did Rhule try to recruit him in college??
  16. Sam isn't a bad guy, he seems to work hard, and he has all the physical tools. But that isn't always enough. Sometimes guys just don't have it. Sam doesn't process the game fast enough at the pro level and it's obvious. Could that have been different if his situation had been different? Maybe. But he plays how he plays, and that isn't gonna change now. I wish him well and I'll root for any Panther but I wouldn't be upset if he never played another game for us.
  17. Right, which is why I don't hate the trade. I do wish we'd seen just a little more out of CJ last year so I'd have a bit more enthusiasm about him in particular, but I'll give him another year without complaint (not that my opinion actually matters to the Panthers anyway).
  18. I don't hate the CJ trade, but it's emblematic of a big problem I have with Rhule: overconfidence in his ability to turn players careers around. Whether it's a retread QB, a player with injury history, his best buddy/someone he liked from college, etc, it feels like he's just so arrogant that he thinks he can overcome the strongest predictor of a player's future: Their career to date. There are always exceptions, and I hope CJ is one, because if he can live up to some of his potential it will have been a great trade.
  19. Although I agree with most of what you're saying in general, Brady would have shown much more than Darnold did... Darnold just processes too slowly it seems, as even when he had time he was abysmal. I do think those stats are misleading since he was clearly always expecting pressure, but if he had more he would have shown it by now...
  20. He's also got way, way more worse film, and a lot of negative rumors to go along with it. The only reason CLE was in at all is because he couldn't be the QB they needed... The same issue Jimmy G has. I don't want to trade for either of them, we've had enough retreads trying to reinvent their careers.
  21. The only reason the trade makes sense at all is because Rhule is desperate to save his job. We've had enough retreads...
  22. Definitely... But if the long term plan is BC at guard and Icky at tackle, I hope that is worked in to the season somehow. I won't begrudge decisions on where rookies start early in the season, but I just would like us to get the guys experience where we expect them to play long term.
