TMJ may not make the final roster but he isn't a pre camp cut imo. I think we should let Theilen go to a competitor if he wants to...
-
The defense last year had to account for the worst starting position in the league or close to it, and an offense that had the most or second most points scored for an opponent. In addition to total yards, they also had a decent 3rd down conversion % and a low yards per play amount. They were also top 5 in points allowed in the first quarter. This is probably a playoff team (admittedly in a weak NFC South) with 1) an average offense in terms of points scored, and 2) an average offense in terms of, uh, not scoring points for the opponent. On the other hand, our tackling sucked and our takeaways sucked. Our run D was not good. We couldn't get stops late in games when we really needed them. But with all the injuries etc... I think Evero did a good job overall. I don't think he is the best D coordinator in the NFL or something, but I think he made good use of what he had, talent-wise.
-
We thought we did pretty well last year, so let's see...
-
I think it's development. Feels like guys are as good as they get when they walk in the door. We don't seem to be able to elevate any WRs, nor ever design schemes that maximize their abilities (outside of like Ginn and Cam which seems less about coaching and more just how well their skillsets fit).
-
Fans make a bigger deal out of things like draft picks being high than I suspect coaching candidates... Seattle is in many ways a more attractive job, better roster etc. Johnson is a good coach and I suspect he'll have equal or better opportunities in the future.
-
Maybe Campbell actually has Johnson believing in him. Who knows. I respect Johnson wanting to see this through but timing seems to suggest it was decided before the outcome of the game which is surprising
-
Yup he was consistently looking for the big play but needed to take the short gains sometimes. The INT was a terrible throw. Even if it was the right distance it's a terrible decision. It was almost like he saw his receiver put his hand up and just stopped reading the field. I like Lamar and don't want him to fail at all. But that throw... Ugh

Steve Wilks owning Dan Campbell yet again.

I don't begrudge the first 4th down attempt but that one later in the game.... when they needed 10 points... I dunnoo... -

Wilks isn't out there making WRs drop balls. That is what killed the 3rd quarter for them... -

I don't hate Wilks, but what a weird characterization of the game... -
that's legitimately an insane standard - Mahomes is one of the best QBs to play the game in years. One doesn't need to be at his level to be more than just some mere game manager. Purdy definitely showed up today...

Purdy being "just a game manager" is seeming pretty overblown right now. Dude is the only reason the last 2 drives kept going as long as they did.

Adam Schefter reports Panthers targeting Brandt Tillis
mav1234 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Moving on from Hill in theory allowed a more complete team and the Chiefs got their win. They do need to reload on offense but let's not act like the Hill trade sent the team into some kind of tail spin... To me the bigger deal is a guy like Tilis is CHOOSING to come here, to move on from an excellent org. You know who doesn't do that? Some boot licker looking for his only shot in the league like some have painted Morgan and Canales. This is the move all offseason that tells me something really is different, or at least being sold to people as different. This dude isn't joining the cast of the next season of Game of Thrones. -
Okay if they actually do this the way the article describes my feelings are gonna change a bit. This sounds much more sound and considered than last year's effort to throw money at every available coach with experience and just assume it'll all go well.
-
Honestly no. I don't want to go through them again and I didn't save any. It was more towards the middle of the season and I'm 90% sure it came up in JTs a couple times. They're ones that were all linked from here. Nor were the breakdowns ever all bad, ofc.
-
I mean, I kinda think they are, if he wants out and they aren't letting him. Yes, he has a contract in place, but he joined a staff that no longer exists. OTOH he has very good reason to stay if he doesn't get a HC job elsewhere. He's built a strong D and it'll likely get better, and there's no guarantees if he goes to another place he'll have the same success. He may WANT to stay, for all we know... afaik he hasn't spoken publicly. He still could land an HC job, though. I hope he does... I like Evero quite a bit.

Doubling down on Young. I don't like it. We NEED Young insurance.

So I don't think we should reach for a QB with our 2nd rnd pick, but if one falls to us, I do think we take them. However in general I think we need to get people in to push BY in camp, and while I don't think we abandon him, I think he's got a shorter leash... -
I wish we'd conducted more second interviews with other candidates. It felt like this was a bit of an abbreviated search in that regard but maybe I'm wrong. And meh, I just have a bad feeling about the emphasis put so much on fixing BY.
-
3 years makes sense. That will let us move on from BY if needed and let a supposed QB guru get a shot with another young guy if BY doesn't work to prove himself.
-
A lot of posters don't realize how critical footwork is I think. Yeah the Cams and the Josh Allen's used a Canon to make up for bad footwork early but with decent footwork, Young's arm talent is more than enough. But the problem is if he can't be consistent even when a pocket is breaking down, that's where the issue is. And as you say - that's mental... He's never gonna get taller or stronger to make up for physical deficiencies but there's still a chance he'll become better. My big concern is... Okay, he gets better. But how much better?
-
Mixed feelings here... I think if he doesn't get a HC spot this year but he gets more pieces on D and a 2nd year with Brown, Luvu, Horn, etc I could see him having an incredible defense and I think that gets him a HC spot. If he wants to leave he should be allowed to, but 3 teams in 3 years is rough. Edit: 100% honest I would rather have had Evero. I don't give a poo about fixing Bryce, I mean it's a nice idea but I'd rather go with the guy that has proven he can maximize from guys with talent.... Evero... But that's neither here nor there anymore and hopefully canales.does well
-
Damn... Good luck to him there if he lands it. He's made the most out of a bad situation for sure.

David, hi, some questions about this hire
mav1234 replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
This was huge. Tabor is a good special teams coach but was always going to be Teppers coach, not Canales'... -
Oooh I thought you meant 2 more seasons. He'll definitely get a chance this coming season, as he should, but he's gonna need to have a major uptick for us to really count on him I'd think.
-
Several breakdowns through the season asked to the possibility Bryce was missing open guys cause of his height, especially if the pocket wasn't pristine
