  1. You're making these comparisons in some weird bubble cutting off the most important achievement of a coach... I'm not saying the Steelers would fire Tomlin NOW. Tomlin isn't still coach now if he never wins a Superbowl is what I'm saying. It's totally different if you remove the Superbowl...
  2. My concern with Payton is minimal but it's that without Brees his offenses weren't anything special. In his years before and after Brees his offenses were typically in the low teens or twenties for points scored and yards.
  3. Tomlin is probably fired if he doesn't have a Superbowl win so I don't see the point in the comparison. I'd rather be good and have a Superbowl but the dumb hypothetical was about Payton getting a ring and "ruining" the team. Do you think Rams fans regret hiring McVay?
  4. I mean I don't think they're the same since Tomlin winning one immediately means they aren't the comparison folks here are making. They were saying ring + mediocre for 10 years vs good but no ring for 10 years. Obviously all of us would rather have consistently good with a SB win than just a SB win.
  5. Not excited about SP personally but whatever... He was a great coach, but my preference is just a younger OC right now.
  6. It means Wilks isn't 100% in, so Holcomb is exploring other opportunities
  7. Well... I've tried digging around for anything legitimate and I can't find it. The only sources I've found have pointed to a tweet by an NFL parody account with a faked quote from an ESPN article (the article is real but it does not contain ANYTHING like the quote). There's LOTS of sources that say that there was no audible, not just the coaches, but also Marshawn (and even years later, e.g. https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/marshawn-lynch-wonders-russell-wilson-audibled-infamous-super-bowl-int-174851487.html) If reliable sources exist, maybe Mr Scot can point them out. I'm skeptical there's anything reliable.
  8. edit: Nevermind. Deleted tweet from an account that made something up claiming a quote from the Seahawks it was an audible. Claimed it was from an ESPN article, which did not contain the line in question. No reason to link "parody" garbage. I can't find anything else other than a bleacher report story referencing it was an audible but with no source. Coaches took the blame and afaik nobody every said any different.
  9. I think Wilson is more than just Carrol for sure but if you put Geno's year this year against Wilson's career it would look like one of Wilson's typical very good years. While Wilson this year hasn't looked great alone, I think he's likely to bounce back to being at least a decent starter...
  10. Seems like a good choice for an OC given who the HC is in this case, assuming he's getting an experienced DC that could act as an assistant HC.
  11. OSU QBs seem to often wait. I feel like this has happened before. It's to not rush a decision after the end of the season, I think.
  12. Although I agree it was unprecedented at the time there's a lot that goes into that - I think the circumstances moreso than anything, because otherwise it's just a natural progression of salaries. To me, the compensation package to HOU was a huge risk for us given those circumstances as much as the contract. Also I agree with you on the draft... I think whatever we give up will be similar to other recent trades. As the 49ers are showing you can move up to trade for a player and even if it doesn't work out super well you can still have an excellent team with the right coaching. That's where I want us to be.
  13. does he, or did he have an exceptional coach that built a team around him that could maximize what he had? and isn't Russ like 15+ lbs heavier than Young? He looks much bigger...
  14. Yeah his height isn't a good thing but it's more than his height. If it was just a couple inches but he had a bigger frame... But he's just small.... Doesn't mean he won't find success tho. Just hard to imagine him going #1 overall.
  15. The origin of the term aside (you are right there!), in context of whether the Watson trade indicates we would 'bet it all', we were clearly willing to give up a huge deal in terms of future assets. So, how does this indicate we wouldn't make a huge risky deal to move up? Or are you just arguing that in order for a team to bet the farm is must be a massive, crippling contract that is fully guaranteed AND giving away huge future assets?? (Which would mean that term doesn't really apply in your mind to draft pick trades anyhow?)
  16. his height (actually it is also his build/frame) is a concern long term though. But I think that when you have the kind of skill he does, you can overcome that. Need a good OL to limit the beating he takes tho.
  17. this is incorrect from what we know - we offered a better trade package BUT Watson refused because of lack of a guaranteed contract... so we were willing to 'trade the farm' for him...
  18. trading the farm is an expression that doesn't mean you are actually crippling the team in every way by actually trading all of your farm system (or draft picks in this case since there's no farm system in the NFL)... But we were going to send HOU multiple first rounders/equivalent value... and we'd probably need to do the same to move up to draft a QB in this draft.
  19. Never know what we'll do. New coach, Tepper is clearly willing to bet the farm and Fitterer is in on every deal. A trade up for someone seems likely but I think it'll be after CJ is already gone... Which I understand but would love to have him be a Panther.
  20. I'm not sure - If you defer, you are only guaranteed the ball for one possession to score. If you take the kick, you are guaranteed two possessions or the win as long as you can start with a TD.
  21. almost like us fans aren't involved in personnel decisions for a reason
  22. Coping? What are you talking about? My preference, as I've said over and over, is for us to pick a young OC. Doesn't mean I deny Wilks did a good job with what he had.
  23. I'm not saying he'll make the right choice, but I don't think this is true, or he'd have definitely gone all in on Harbaugh.
  24. I think it's fair to say our defense didn't improve with Wilks but there are mitigating factors, including injuries and what you point out. However, I don't think he really has a resume of being a coach of exceptional defensive units from what I recall. No denying his ability to motivate though.
  25. If you believe the draft value chart, Buffalo traded a pick worth 1300 for 680 (27th) + 136 (91) in 2017 and a first rounder in 2018 that if we assume average value (mid point of the 1st or 1000 in year of trade, halved to 500 since it's a year later) would be 500 for a total of 1316 or nearly spot in for exact value of the pick. In some ways the Bills may have bet on that 2018 pick being worth more than it was - it's actual pick at 22 meant it woulda been worth less (780) than mid-point of the round.
