Is your argument that Bryce Young isn't good enough to take over a game, and so needs insane performances from superior players in order to shine?
-
"Plays well" vs "near historic performance" are pretty different things. It's important to keep in mind the Cowboys passing defense is league worst and their run defense is nearly so, for sure. But one of those two players vastly outperformed what most other players have done versus the Cowboys and the other had fewer yards than typical (but still played very well imo, and did all we needed him to). Rico pretty much doubled up virtually every other single back that has played the Cowboys. So yeah I get why people would be surprised that Rico is so far down the list of O players.

My concern is that if we move the goal posts from 10 to 15 yards he has generally looked much worse this year than last in aggregate. Prior to the last 2 weeks I think he only has 1 or 2 completions over 20 yards, and it wasn't much better 15+ yards. That said, the last 2 weeks are looking more like how he did the end of last year. If he can keep hitting enough passes 15-20 yards down field, it'll keep teams from stacking up too much vs our run game. To your point, the last 2 weeks he's something like 6/8 past 20 yards, with 2 TDs and an INT. The first month or so of the season I was saying I wanted to see him hitting more of those throws and I'm glad he's doing so. It's necessary if you're trying to pound the rock. I'm still skeptical he'll be able to do that against better teams but hoping he proves me wrong.

8 passes past 10 yards. 6 completions, 3 TDs. I'm fine with 8 passes out of 25 down field tbh. Edit: note that I do not think this is showing deliberate incompletions / throwing the ball away.

I know it's a great grade, and I get how PFF does their grading, that's why I had said "still" in there, as in "despite that being a great grade it still feels low given his production and how he did it".
-
Hahaha that's great!
-
Rico did have some misses in pass blocking and that may be where Chuba sneaks back in. 82 feels low for his rushing still hahahaah
-
He's been given the most because he is relatively often open and to stop catches DBs have thrown themselves at him. I'm talking NFL open, not cowboys forgetting to cover receivers open.
-
Indeed. Caleb Williams had 298 yards and 4 TDs. Jordan Love had 330+ yards and 3 TDs. Cowboys suck this year. Only Jalen Hurts week 1 and Bryce Young had fewer than ~300 yards against them. Still happy with Young but perspective is valuable here.

I agree Bryce played well yesterday. And I've said all a long what we were missing is more 15-20ish yard completions (which Bryce was I think 4/6 on yesterday, pretty good). But the fact we don't go deep more often is very clearly not because of our receivers... TMac routinely beats his guys deep. When he isn't crazy fuging open, Bryce has often missed him. And when he or others are crazy open they do need to slow down for Bryce. I am less concerned with 40 yard bombs, personally, and we have the personnel to threaten 20 yards down field regularly, so hopefully that continues. Now Bryce escaped pressure very well and found the open players. He spread the ball around well. I'm happy he did well and I hope that is more about him and our offense than the Cowboys.

C'mon man, this is a weird take. Nobody is expecting Bryce Young to play D. And he played well today. But there are QBs that keep their team in the game whether they get career days from RBs or not. And I hope Bryce can be one of those players, and that is not too much to ask from a QB. As to the final Miami scoring drive, Rico started it with a 16 yard run and Etienne did have a 12 yard rush in the red zone. It was good complimentary football.
-
I know what you mean. I keep hoping Bryces timing will improve and our guys won't need to basically wait to catch balls but at least he was able to find the right player many times this week, and often down field. He seemed more confident than earlier in the year and his game resembled his successful games last year, hitting 15-20 yard passes multiple times

Eight of Bryce Young's nine wins have come off game-winning drives

If this team ends up over .500, this board is going to be crazy with playoff talk haha -
4 to 6 games into the season, do we know this teams identity?

The young guys clearly believe, and damn so they fight hard! -
Cowboys should replace their GM... Let their best defensive player go and now they're suffering for it. (;))

The Jets are precisely the kind of team the Panthers lose to, no matter how well they're playing lol. Hopefully canales comes out firing and puts them down early. -
I do wish he would give a player like TMac a chance rather than sitting when what he wants isn't there, but he's cleaned up the turnovers and overall I think he made good choices with the ball this game.
-
Some day, he'll need to carry the team for us to win. But that time isn't now and he made the plays he needed to for us to stay in the game and ultimately get the W. Rico deserves tons of credit for the last two games but Bryce, especially today, took advantage deep which is what a lot of us have been wanting.

Today was a great win for Bryce. A decent overall team, he had to fight through the entire game. Definitely one of his best performances of his career, arguably his best imo. -
Nah man, I'm happy for the team and for Bryce. But let's not act like the Cowboys are some good defense. They give up more yards than any other team and give up 30 ppg (29th in the league). But Bryce was good today, particularly at avoiding pressure - the one thing the Cowboys D does well.
-
It was a good performance but the cowboys are one of the worst defenses in the league this year. Bryce did exactly what you want your qB to do though and he moved out of pressure very well.
-
I dunno, he has shown he has the physical tools at least... I'm not sure he'll ever develop but he can throw a beautiful pass.

Official Week 6: Cowboys @ Panthers Gameday Thread

It's not like his stats were bad when we were tied, lol. Its a bit of an odd subset to use. Bryce was fine today, he did his job and made some good plays in the face of pressure without being at fault for any turnovers. -
We need to give our Dline the love they deserve

As frustrating as it was to see Mike Jackson burned time and again, our DL containing their running game is a big reason we won, and the D came up huge on Dallas' last possession
