2018. Honestly Cam wasn't going to come back and frankly I wouldn't want to put him thru this... Given that, I'm not surprised by this move because any QB we signed at this time of year was going to be awful.
-
Abdullah made him expendable. He and Chuba are fine backups to CMC. It isn't hard to find a JAG RB if CMC goes down again.
-
I would hope that this staff has enough integrity that if he wasn't interested they wouldn't go talking about it publicly. We'd never know.

An ESPN analytic stat shows just how bad our offensive line really is.

Yup, although at least one has been a bad call (RB in the area on what I think was a screen). Crazy how little awareness he has sometimes tho. -
He does have talent, but simply not enough or doesn't show it consistently enough ... And maybe that'll change but he's not gonna show it on this roster... Maybe, if he can sit behind an established starter as a backup some day we could see him resurrect his career...

Well tbf I wouldn't say Miami's passing offense is playing well, lol. Sam just is the worst starting QB in the league, unfortunately, and whether we gave him the situation to be better doesn't matter. We have 2 other QBs on the roster and it's time to give them a shot because Sam, for as great as he may be off the field, is destroying morale on it. -

Im fine with any one of those moves tbh. It's the combination of them... So much relying on so many reclamation projects... -
Although I think he deserves the burden of blame for his performance, I think his first four games indicate that there's much more going on than Darnold alone... I think the offense got figured out, I think Brady hasn't been able to adapt OR Darnold hasn't been able to get new players under his belt or something to allow the offense to grow. Yes his first four games were somewhat fools Gold, but he was still so much more decisive and was hitting the deeper passes... The wheels started coming off vs Dallas but it wasn't until subsequent games where he looked really exposed... And remember that is when we started hearing Ds knew what plays we were running before the snap.

The issue with this staff is their incredible hubris to think they can resurrect people's careers. Just because they got more than expected out of a few players last year the staff bought into their own bullshit and decided to try to build an entire OL and raise a QB from the dead. It's insane. -
Rhule failed to put Darnold in a position to rehab his career. It's his fault we are as fuged as we are. Doesn't make Darnold good, but it is what it is...
-
There's some critical missed on the part of Rhule that could have helped Darnold perhaps fix his career. But it doesn't matter ultimately what Rhule didn't do, because we have Darnold as he is. And how he is, unfortunately, is terrible... It's time to move on
-
I don't think that Darnold was coddled. I think that the lack of competition, the signing of the extension... These were signs of the hubris of this coaching staff. So sure of their ability to rehabilitate any player that they thought they could turn around a guy's career while failing to give him the actual support he needed on the football field or in the QB room. That's the thing. Bringing in a seasoned vet that has had decent success as a backup isn't about competition, IMO. It is about another set of eyes. Getting a guy behind Darnold that has seen things, that can offer insight, etc. What the heck can PJ (or Grier, had we kept him) offer Darnold? Nothing. If they were REALLY going to treat Darnold like a rookie, they should have built around him like one: A veteran backup to help him. A good OL. Etc. We did pick up a nice TE, which is every young QB's best friend... but we then traded that TE for a guy that has barely played (well, and a 3rd round pick ... ). Anyway... Darnold needs to SIT. He's done. We've continued fuging him the way the Jets started. Just get it over with and IR him.

I don't think it is a problem that Brady is in the booth. Darnold just doesn't have it. By all accounts he is a great player off the field, but he just doesn't have what it takes to succeed on it.

DJ is better than Jeudy or Sutton IMO. He certainly has had better years than either. Sutton and Jeudy are better this year than Robby is this year, but Robby had as good a year last year as either has ever had... Based on production with TB, I'd say DJ+Robby >> Sutton + Jeudy. But Jeudy hasn't been available for them either (less than CMC, only 1 game started), and so this is more of a DJ+Robby vs Sutton+Patrick and with TB I would say that goes to DJ+Robby by far. I do think a big part of Robby's problem is Darnold. Fant is better. I suppose I didn't consider TE a skill position, lol, but that is fair. RB I think is close to a push just because of CMC playing half of our games this year, and we already mentioned Jeudy, so. edit: I know DEN's passblocking has been bad, but I wonder how their run blocking has been. I only watched one of their games and it didn't look bad. Gordon and Williams are an excellent backfield duo tho.

I think Brady is an issue too. Teddy isn't a long term franchise option, but with NO and with DEN he is scoring TDs pretty well. And DEN has a terrible OL too, and imo are weaker at skill positions than we are. Yet the % of TDs he throws dropped quite a bit here relative to NO and DEN. Teddy probably has this team with 2 losses and atop the division...
-
Terrace deserves an incomplete as well, imo. He looked so good in the preseason... Keith Taylor has shown some great potential and made a couple plays. Chubba looks good for a rookie imo, but obviously needs to work on his hands. I agree with your premise. Our core is leaning heavily on Hurney if not River/Hurney players. But keep in mind it takes a few years for most drafted players to settle in.

3 games since Darnold has had a TD. Since Dallas, he's had 2 TDs, 8 INTs, 1 fumble lost, only broken 60% completion percentage once (with drops it'd probably be twice, heh), and is averaging like ~160 yards/game. He isn't the only problem on offense, but its time they sit him. Rhule's at fault for this risk, and he really could have helped Darnold (and the team) out in a few ways... but ah well. Rhule now needs to actually show the team that he's willing to try something different I think
-
When you say ride the horse out - keep starting Darnold? I was on that train until today - I just don't get how you can keep him starting the way he has played most of the time over the last month+...
-
I'm beginning to think the problems with the offense is a lot more than just the QB. We ditched TB because he couldn't get it into the end zone, couldn't lead a game winning drive... He's doing that now in Denver, and he certainly has worse around him... I don't think he's the answer but maybe be wasn't wrong about some things here.
-
Crazily enough Teddy certainly isn't a long term franchise-defining player but I bet weve got a couple more wins with him at least. He is playing much better in Denver.
-
Man I fuging love Reddick. We need to bring him back! https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/32578190/carolina-panthers-lb-haason-reddick-calls-new-england-patriots-mac-jones-dirty-play From the article: "Definitely thought it was a dirty play,'' Reddick said. "I actually saw and witnessed the play while it was happening. At first it felt like he was trying trip or kick Burns. And the next thing you know I saw him tugging on Burns' ankle. I thought it was completely dirty. Hopefully, it's something the league addresses.'' Much more from Reddick in the story. Those who don't want to give ESPN clicks, he also notes Burns will be fine. The refs say it'll go to the league for review. Rhule says it was clearly a penalty.
-
Maybe if he had a good oline at the start of this year. I think he's done barring sitting behind someone on a new team and getting a chance to forget his first few years in the league.
-
Teddy would probably have this team at 6-3.. The OL is still a huge problem, but he's much better at protecting the ball. He told us what the problem was last year and that's why he isn't here anymore.

The crazy thing is I'm pretty sure whatever happened in practice was so very bad that they knew Darnold at his worst was better than PJ... I'd love to see them give Morgan and PJ more chances just because Darnold is done and everyone has lost confidence in him. Doesn't matter if PJ is worse or not, at least it would look like they're trying something...
