  1. Matt Rhule coached at Baylor for one season (while Fields was in college) and had no common opponents with Ohio St and a different conference. Don’t see that giving him a inside take. Never lived up to it on the field? He went undefeated two straight seasons at Ohio St. His only two losses were in the college playoffs where he outplayed Trevor Lawrence in BOTH matchups. Who is the last college QB to live up to the hype while college. Must be a high bar. my most concerning take is Matt Rhule has never had great QB play (even adjusted for his conference) on any team he has coached.
  2. I generally prefer the toughest game be week 1. Just because it is such a weird week. And there is no film on anything about the Jets. Week 1 IMO is often a crap shoot. Good teams can come out slow and bad teams hot. Weird opening game for Sam too. The revenge and hometown games are always a mixed bag. Can work for or against a guy.
  3. Correct. I think the right call was to still draft Fields. But even I thought (for me it was a fear) they were going to draft Horn leading up to the draft. Adding Darnold simply changed things. I think they simply took all top QBs off their board. And it wasn’t because they think Darnold was a better option than them in a vacuum. It’s was because the smart move at the time was to get Darnold. And they did it. So they adjusted their plans.
  4. Well, not according to some.
  5. Weirdest narrative for me is the one that if Jimmy Clausen was taken with out first pick…..it meant everyone loved him, wanted him in Carolina and thought that was the best option for us. That’s rarely reality. I think the reports were likely correct some wanted Fields in Carolina. All that matters though is what the final decision wants to do. And we have seen a lot of final decisions in the NFL outsmart themselves.
  6. Good news is we have a preseason game coming up and will finally get a look at guys and reason to talk about them.
  7. Not really. Change the people and caliber of players to make the concept more simple. Let’s say they liked a QB at 3 in the draft. Then Watson’s issues never occurred. They acquired him instead. You then don’t take the QB you liked at 3 or take him if he fell to 8. they acquired Darnold at a time there were decent odds they couldn’t acquire anyone they liked in the draft. And it clearly changed things….which is why Rhule describes it as not Fields vs Darnold but Fields vs Horn + Darnold.
  8. and one has super high odds of going to Houston. You probably can pencil that in and take one off the hypothetical board.
  9. If Darnold flops hard and I think Rhule’s seat is hot. Given you can’t really play the who knew card, that Teddy and Darnold weren’t good enough. Tepper gonna be questioned about that Rhule contract too.
  10. Hard to imagine it would top this one though IMO. No doubt a Wilson or someone can and likely will emerge. But Trevor and Fields are rare in terms of hitting draft together… plus the other guys IMO.
  11. what did Einstein say about insanity… Would be time for Tepper IMO to step in and do what some claim he will never do or get a new staff IMO
  12. I think we got good off odds of keeping this 20+ year streak going.
  13. Of course, the opportunity actually has to exist for you to do that. This was kinda a weird year IMO. Draft was heavier for top QB prospects than your average one + a lot of big names up for talk at the same time. QB needy teams have high odds of owning the coveted QB in a draft.
  14. No doubt in regards to Cam. Was just talking about Teddy and Darnold type stuff not being that different from Moore, Carr, Clausen , parts of Delhomme era.
  15. A lot of it is scripted reality TV. Rhule in his office boxing up stuff. Tepper on his couch. Players at there homes. That is Kardashian style reality TV. Other parts are guys clearly playing to mics that they know are being used for Panther media. I don’t know what is really going on. That’s kinda the point. John Fox telling you he loves Clausen….isn’t the cold hard truth either. Which is again, kinda the point. and it’s why fans here can BS around with what they think. Half the fun. Because no one knows what is really going on. The Panther PR videos are just that. They aren’t the truth either. a NFL team wouldn’t let people actually be a real fly on the wall lol. Fans would probably want half the staff fired and 1/4 of the players cut lol
  16. Yes, the PR video about the draft was literally done for fans. That’s the point of the video. It’s why you got 15 seconds of the conversation that clearly wasn’t a 15 second conversation. They only let you hear what they want to hear. They aren’t going to let you hear all the disagreements and cases made for and against guys. You won’t know who wanted what and didn’t get it. Well, you often find that out years later when the bands breakup. It’s like the video out today. It’s crafted for you. The fan. It shows you what they want you to see. They know when the mic is on. It’s like Tepper sitting on his coach talking to Rhule where his wife walks in on the conversation. Just a big coincidence the camera crew was at Teppers house when Rhule called for that to make it in. Yeah, a lot of behind the scenes stuff is totally scripted. It’s not a hidden camera show. If this was 2010 you would be claiming everyone in Carolina was doing cartwheels after that draft and that it was awesome. Because that is what the team told people publicly. John Fox probably came out and talked about he pumped he was about Jimmy Jam lol. Got to be true. Fox just said so.
  17. I missed the part where you listed the names on the board. Or where it was said the unknown names were trade downs. but as I said, the names aren’t the point. NFL teams have never been open and honest about what goes on behind the scenes. Not claiming they should. It would make no sense to be with fans. We are the people they are trying to sell.
  18. Okay, it’s was Twitter. That’s not the point. He was addressing the the online talk that likely started here. Cool. What where all the names on the board? Did Tepper call you and tell you they were trade down options? Or are you just guessing/assuming. Because you don’t like that. None of that was said in the video. But again, the point isn’t what names were up on the board…..it is just that the Panthers nor any team actually tells you everything. Because it is never how they sell it to you in the end. But yeah, the draft video showed everyone agrees on everything. Everyone happy. Everything went exactly how they planned from the jump.
  19. Bill Voth literally came on here and addressed it. They didn’t show us the board at the end and all that was written on it (your declaration)….nor did they include all the talk. They just cut to the conclusion and never showed the full board. Voth came on here and said it wasn’t Fields we thought we saw. He wouldn’t say what it actually said though above it or what it was. They opted not to include that info. Because the Panthers now and before and all other teams….only tell you what they choose to.
  20. So tell us what was all written down on the board that they edited out…where Voth came in to declare it didn’t say Fields. But didn’t say what was written. point isn’t about if it said Fields or not. Point is merely they only tell you and show you what they want.
  21. The Jimmy Clausen, Matt Moore, David Carr, Delhomme eras all had the same fan talk IMO
  22. and there QB room sucks if you are trying to start a raw rookie to begin with. there isn’t anyone in that QB room that knows diddly about playing QB in the NFL. and to a degree I think our QB room is wrong too. You want to try this Darnold experiment out? PJ and Grier don’t aid Darnold.
  23. would have been a lot cooler if Voth actually said what all was on the board…that they didn’t think we needed to see.
  24. He had one great season in college for an independent school playing against weak opponents. I mean he is talented….but a day 1 starter for a bad team? Just a bad plan. got to the think the game speed adjustment is much more problematic for a Wilson than a Trevor, Fields or Jones. And I’m sure all 3 of them are having a time with it. But Trevor and Fields at least played at a high level for multiple seasons with NFL caliber DL talent coming at them and covering their WRs. Got to think the game speed change is less crazy for them vs Wilson.
