  1. Dak was on pace to throw for like 20,000 yards though before injury. I get he is a better athlete. But Dalton looked he had never seen a NFL field for big chunks of the year, It was shocking how bad he looked IMO. it was a pretty dramatic difference. I don’t fault Dalton for not winning as the D wasn’t good but….not sure a OL shakeup can explain Dalton last year. I just don’t see Dalton being to hold off the Fields train. Bears went to the playoffs with Mitch last year. They can ease Fields in
  2. Trevor is competing with Menshew for the starting gig right now. This time during Cam’s career he was battling Jimmy Jam to earn the starting spot. Coaches talk a certain way. based on the word from those following Bears world….there just doesn’t seem to be a way for Dalton to hold Fields off long. Gotta think by midseason it will be Fields’ team. And Dalton was horrible last year with absurd talent around him.
  3. Imagine if those Jets teams he played on had simply gone out and rented a good veteran QB. Those were some really strong teams. Talk about a wasted window.
  4. hey, at least Rhule can get some actual crowd noise for his O to work with. He talked about having to create some artificial noise today to practice with. Every 4th seat gonna have some idiot with a yellow towel in them.
  5. I don't really have any interest in that debate right now. Was really just giving you a heads up that I thought the thread title was misleading. I think if you wanted to catch the starters, the Pitt game really seems to be the one the starters will all show up in.
  6. if you show up at BOA thinking you are going to see the starting units this weekend.....I would think you might be disappointed. Thread title IMO is a tad misleading based on what Matt Rhule actually said.
  7. I don't think the people, this time last year, that said Teddy had been a checkdown QB his entire career and was really a backup at this point......were rooting for him to fail. It was just acknowledging what Teddy had proven to be as a QB in the NFL and not expecting life to be different here. Think a lot of that is at the heart of what some call "wanting Darnold to fail". I'll be rooting for him to destroy the Jets come week 1 with the best game of his career for a little 89 blood and guts revenge. But I really just feel he will be a variation of what he has always been in the NFL.
  8. if a NFL player keeps screwing up in camp. I think the best punishment is too send him to the sidelines and let all the guys who are dying for reps take his for awhile. And then you keep sending him back to the sidelines. Best "punishement".....is the threat of losing your job and your professional stock taking hits IMO. It's professional sports. And you are dealing with a bunch of grown men who for most part know what a business oriented world it actually is in the NFL. Most know exactly how disposable they are and can be treated. The overwhelming majority of the league isn't CMC.
  9. it's a textbook example of why people knock college coaches and the struggles they have when it comes to million dollar professionals and college kids IMO. BUT.....I think it is a great idea for the huddle. Instead of calling them bans. We can call them trips to the DBO sign. Takes about a week to get to the sign and back.
  10. I think there are only 3 teams that have elected to stack back to back weeks scrimmaging other teams in this preseason game schedule. Panthers, Jets, and Eagles. But the other two are using the back end of the preseason schedule. Rhule and company are brand new at managing a real preseason schedule. It was all cancelled last year. Could be decent odds he might not do this again. I'm sure when all is said and done....he will take a lot from his first preseason. He probably will end up echoing similar things Ron did about the value of former NFL coaches being on the team.
  11. Yes, but per Rhule them being available would be part of the criteria to see Darnold.
  12. The huddle exist in part to argue bad football takes until the cows come home. if you can’t do that without name calling you are going to get a vacation. That’s the overdue warning.
  13. his presser is up on Panther social media. Hard to listen to it and think you are going to get a look at Sam IMO this week. Reporter followed up on the criteria and he specially mentioned that being who he would throw to after they brought up Erving. And playing Moore and Robby doesn’t make sense with them nursing those type issues. but I think we see Horn and some fringe starters. Wouldn’t be surprised if he puts the healthy part of the D out there for a series vs would should be a mild group of Ravens.
  14. DJ Moore with a back and Robby with a hammy. I’d bet my 2 pennies we don’t see Sam until game 3. fantastic week to debut Jaycee Horn though.
  15. In fairness, Rhule didn't say he will play the starters. "We will play several starters. A small amount on Saturday". He then hedged on Sam actually playing by setting the criteria. That he needs the full compliment of players around him for that to happen.
  16. think they should just leave at as WFT. Embrace the fancy pants soccer sounding name. It works for them.
  17. Rhule starts off his presser saying he will play some starters. Long winded answer about Sam. Sounds if Sam doesn't have his full guys at WR and OL then he wouldn't end up playing. Who knows. Just a mumbled up answer of words.
  18. Well, 4th year starters just aren’t going to get the rookie benefit of the doubt or patience. That’s the NFL.
  19. No clue. Lot of unknowns about what Darnold will look like here. we need Darnold to take shots. Will he take them when he needs to? No one knows.
  20. if you want to exclusively blame the WRs….it seems like this would still be relevant info and could likely be a contributing factor in regards to how they are being painted. I mean the whole fan narrative for bringing in Sam….was to not play in the scheme as Teddy did. Seems like something worth watching.
  21. https://www.google.com/amp/s/theathletic.com/2777717/2021/08/18/panthers-what-we-learned-sam-darnold-not-going-deep-much-is-that-a-good-thing-jaycee-horn-itching-to-play/%3famp Joe Person noted that Darnold isn’t really throwing downfield in these practices. Majority of the completions today were on checkdowns which he notes was the case vs the Colts too. might have something to do with the pass game struggling. Ravens and Colts have good defenses. If you start getting predictable….good defenses are going to have an easier time disrupting things.
  22. 18th? Yeah….I’d say they drastically overweighted the #1 slot in these rankings.
  23. the WRs clearly didn’t have a great day. certainly didn’t sound like anyone not named CMC…had a good one either though
  24. Coaches talk how coaches talk. Especially via the media. John Fox thought a lot of stuff too. Stuff Peyton Manning thought and wanted. We already know Tom Brady flexes on Bruce.
