I asked what point was being made with the post. Only thing I walked away from was Gase came in and QBs immediately had their best season. Was that the point? If not, that is why I asked. Tannehill's downfall in Miami was more injury related than anything IMO. Blew his ACL after the playoff season. Messed up shoulder the year coming back from the ACL. that post about Tannehill/Gase was a continuation of the discussion about Urban's QBs. The poster said we should do the same with Gase.

What's the argument you are making? We were discussing how Urban Meyer's QB are dog poo when they go to the NFL. It's consistent no matter what college they came out of. Great college QBs. Horrible NFL QBs. The Ohio St stigma is actually an Urban one IMO. Which Fields isn't part of. When Gase connected with those two QBs, they immediately had there best season. Yet he is at fault for everything when it comes to Darnold?

Beat writers on Twitter are saying he has been MIA since camp started. Ranging from the covid list to personal reasons. Wouldn’t be surprised if more info starts to come out in the coming days. Something sounds off about him and the Jags on this one.

Tannehill had a winning record with Gase though. They went to the playoffs year 1 too.

But that’s not true. Again, this isn’t the Bradford era. Rookie deals don’t handicap you like years ago. Cardinals drafted Rosen in the top 10. It was a bust. Very next year got Murray in the top 5. They moved on quick. The way rookie deals are now you can do that. And you can carry your bust as a backup long term project…and their cap hit isn’t brutal.
-
yes, but I generally put the emphasis on who coached them in college instead of the uniform. Urban Meyer QBs never panned out in the NFL.
-
Then Sam Bradford will be a unicorn and pull off what few have ever done. And I’ll cheer it. But right now, I just call it like I would if any other team made the move and only had Sam at QB. worst case scenario IMO is he is decent. Not bad. Not good. Then we just get stuck with him for a couple years.
-
This isn’t the Sam Bradford era. Rookie deals don’t cripple you if you miss.

Sam is a bigger cap hit to us than Fields is to the Bears.
-
I’ll pull for them in season just like I did Kyle Allen. Just like I did for Teddy and PJ. But the Carolina Panthers need a QB. It’s a QB league. And I’ll continue to pull for them to solve that glaring need.

He was drafted by the Jets to be their franchise QB. He played poorly. They moved on from him. To date, he is a bust. That is a fact. It is an opinion that he can be salvaged and it’s ALL the Jets
-
Our QBs are Will Grier, PJ Walker and we are kicking the tires on the former Jets QB who they moved on from. Anyone could turn into something….but right now we don’t have one.
-
Still a bust. He is a Joey Harrington. We are Miami. But even Miami brought in more than just Harrington when kicking those tires. Harrington wasn’t brought in to start.

So…who are all these people higher on Darnold than Fields outside the folks I mentioned? it isn’t even Fields centric in reality. It is what he represents. We have no QB at this stage. We had a top prospect drop in our lap and passed. Which doesn’t apply to those teams. They drafted a QB, drafted one last year….or are the Falcons, who have their cap/money invested still in their franchise QB still.
-
Dwayne Haskins had value to the Steelers. I think most teams probably viewed Sam similar to that. Lot of teams don’t mind kicking the tires on a busted QB. But they are kicking the tires on someone they likely know won’t pan out while their aging QB….is still there starting QB . Steelers are kicking the tires the right way. we just went all in on a busted QB and passed on a top tier draft prospect.
-
Fields only had bad games when dealing with busted ribs (after out playing Trevor a second time) and when Ohio St was ravaged with COVID for over a month.
-
I think Darnold simply made sense given where the Panthers found themselves when they signed him. Who is higher on Darnold than Fields at this point that isn’t a Panther fan, Trojan fan, Sam’s momma, a clickbait talking head seeking attention. Kiper? Yeah, didn’t he promise to quit after Clausen predictably busted? NFL history says Fields has a better shot at being a franchise QB than Darnold. First round draft picks have a higher success rate…..than QBs who have busted and stunk for years.

his preseason wasn't magnificent in the limited work. But I still remember that preseason run he had for a TD vs the Bengals. It was special. That singular play sold be on he needed to be the dude week 1.
-
I think the arm talent narrative is greatly overrated. I still think the bust odds on Wilson and Lance are super high.
-
There was a reason Zach Wilson didn't know if he would even be the starting QB going in to this past year... Never got the narrative that went on this year with these college QBs this past offseason/leading up to the draft.
-
In 2020 we had to install a brand new offense and defense with a staff with little experience …in a COVID shortened world. and we lost legit studs like Luke Kuechly, James Bradberry and essentially CMC. I still think we overachieved as a team. No one thought we would be as competitive as we were going in.

I'd give 2011 the slight edge. 89 and Olsen > DJ and Robbie. 2011 then had Shockey, LaFell rounding it out. Think that trumps Arnold and a rookie slightly. Plus, 2011 had LEGATRON. but most importantly, the 2 QBs who pulled it off were better than Darnold.
-
Ok, but the 4k QBs last year in 15 were still largely the likes of Mahomes, Brady, Watson, Rodgers, Ryan, Allen. Herbert is basically the odd ball. Dallas had crazy deep and good WRs last year. But they had a washed up Andy Dalton at QB stepping into that O for the first time. For all the heat Teddy got and deserved by being a check down king. He still IMO helped us overachieve on offense by knowing the system and having command of it. Doubtful Darnold will have the O grasped like Teddy did as early.
