  1. LOL. Yeah…these are just people. Were you one of those people calling Simone Biles weak? you think Jake Delhomme’s 2009 loss to the Eagles opening day was just like any other random loss of his career?
  2. I think they should rep Sam a lot. Because he hasn’t been a very good QB to date. It’s a new offensive scheme he has to learn. Minus one person it also all new receiving options he needs to build chemistry with. go check the reports today about how our OL is looking vs the Colts guys in practice. So yeah, one of the biggest things to look for IMO is how Darnold manages behind our weak OL this preseason vs stout fronts.
  3. Yeah, if you want to make the bust rate justification for why you avoided QBs…you then go pull a Marty Hurney and go draft Etienne or Parsons or some bullshit. The logic at least holds better. concur about the bust rehab experiments having super high failure rates too. It’s why I take what they say with a grain of salt. NFL teams and coaches are always bullshitting and lying to the masses. Doubtful we have first transparent and honest FO.
  4. Well, to date we have literally seen not a single snap. So preseason will be something. We will finally get a look at something. They will have to rep him. And when they do….it should be against good fronts. Have at it. Consider the OL all pros until they prove otherwise. I don’t view football like that. Our OL play has been weak for years and we haven’t added the talent for me to magically claim it isn’t now.
  5. coaches are super stubborn. We should know that. Rhule got to where he is today by doing X. Seems like he thinks he can win here by continuing it. And QB play has never been the focus for Rhule.
  6. the bust rate argument doesn’t really hold when they then go draft a DB at 8. Bust rate for CBs is high….and is a much less impactful position.
  7. and that would go with my theory of the guy who has never won building a team around QB play….just doesn’t value it the way you have to in the NFL. A Phil Snow D paired with meh QB play isn’t how you win in the NFL. But that been the Rhule model for success. His first two years sure seem to be following that.
  8. No one knows how the draft falls in reality. They didn’t have Fields, Lance, Jones, etc anywhere on their board. Even as trade down options if there per the guys you said cleared all that up. It sure looks like they simply removed all QBs from the board and discussion after they gave up picks for Sam and knew they were going to have to pay to get Teddy out. Which isn’t really about not liking a draft prospect at all. Because you had highly regarded prospects for cheap at an assortment of different styles and fits.
  9. All loses aren’t actually the same though. Some are more impactful to a team or player than others. season was pretty much done IMO after the 2016 and 2009 openers. We went into week 1 thinking we could be contenders….think everyone felt it wasn’t happening that year after week 1. Those were some brutal Ls for Jake and Cam IMO. I don’t know Sam’s mental makeup. But you gotta think an opening Jets loss is going to hit and be more impactful than some random team.
  10. We play some stout defenses this preseason which will be good to see how Darnold fares behind our weak OL. Teddy was a check down king afraid to make the throws needed. But I think it might be overlooked how him spending a couple years in the scheme and liking to get rid of the ball helped the O function last year.
  11. Vegas has Panthers in Carolina at -4 presently. Over/under 43 Denver/Giants over/under at 42.5. The only one lower week 1. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2021-nfl-week-1-odds-49ers-open-as-biggest-favorites-eight-games-have-spread-of-three-points-or-less/amp/
  12. Matt Rhule coached at Baylor for one season (while Fields was in college) and had no common opponents with Ohio St and a different conference. Don’t see that giving him a inside take. Never lived up to it on the field? He went undefeated two straight seasons at Ohio St. His only two losses were in the college playoffs where he outplayed Trevor Lawrence in BOTH matchups. Who is the last college QB to live up to the hype while college. Must be a high bar. my most concerning take is Matt Rhule has never had great QB play (even adjusted for his conference) on any team he has coached.
  13. I generally prefer the toughest game be week 1. Just because it is such a weird week. And there is no film on anything about the Jets. Week 1 IMO is often a crap shoot. Good teams can come out slow and bad teams hot. Weird opening game for Sam too. The revenge and hometown games are always a mixed bag. Can work for or against a guy.
  14. Correct. I think the right call was to still draft Fields. But even I thought (for me it was a fear) they were going to draft Horn leading up to the draft. Adding Darnold simply changed things. I think they simply took all top QBs off their board. And it wasn’t because they think Darnold was a better option than them in a vacuum. It’s was because the smart move at the time was to get Darnold. And they did it. So they adjusted their plans.
  15. Well, not according to some.
  16. Weirdest narrative for me is the one that if Jimmy Clausen was taken with out first pick…..it meant everyone loved him, wanted him in Carolina and thought that was the best option for us. That’s rarely reality. I think the reports were likely correct some wanted Fields in Carolina. All that matters though is what the final decision wants to do. And we have seen a lot of final decisions in the NFL outsmart themselves.
  17. Good news is we have a preseason game coming up and will finally get a look at guys and reason to talk about them.
  18. Not really. Change the people and caliber of players to make the concept more simple. Let’s say they liked a QB at 3 in the draft. Then Watson’s issues never occurred. They acquired him instead. You then don’t take the QB you liked at 3 or take him if he fell to 8. they acquired Darnold at a time there were decent odds they couldn’t acquire anyone they liked in the draft. And it clearly changed things….which is why Rhule describes it as not Fields vs Darnold but Fields vs Horn + Darnold.
  19. and one has super high odds of going to Houston. You probably can pencil that in and take one off the hypothetical board.
  20. If Darnold flops hard and I think Rhule’s seat is hot. Given you can’t really play the who knew card, that Teddy and Darnold weren’t good enough. Tepper gonna be questioned about that Rhule contract too.
  21. Hard to imagine it would top this one though IMO. No doubt a Wilson or someone can and likely will emerge. But Trevor and Fields are rare in terms of hitting draft together… plus the other guys IMO.
  22. what did Einstein say about insanity… Would be time for Tepper IMO to step in and do what some claim he will never do or get a new staff IMO
  23. I think we got good off odds of keeping this 20+ year streak going.
  24. Of course, the opportunity actually has to exist for you to do that. This was kinda a weird year IMO. Draft was heavier for top QB prospects than your average one + a lot of big names up for talk at the same time. QB needy teams have high odds of owning the coveted QB in a draft.
