And I can accept that to a degree. Just think we should be able to talk about it. not blindly defend it all. Started with Teddy. Teddy can suck as a starting QB and point out a legit criticism of a brand new NFL staff. Both can be true.

Rhule really starting to worry me ever since last season ended. and I’m still not sure about how Rhule went about this week as a whole. - he was going to play his starters -then he advised he let the Colts dictate how they wanted to practice. Whatever they wanted. - Colts HC wanted to rep his starters hard in practice and not play his winning football team in the preseason game. Announcers hit on the fact that it was Colts HC’s preference. -Rhule then changed his mind on playing his starters IMO following the Colts. But we aren’t a winning team primarily focused on health. We are a young bad team that needs to be repping Darnold, Horn, etc.
-
Rams are a win now playoff team that added a strong veteran QB to hopefully put them over the top. we are a 5 win team trying to rehab a young bust QB these two things are not the same. overall NFL coaches are repping guys like Sam Darnold. Rhule is against the grain here. That is what it is. You can be cool with Rhule not doing what experienced NFL coaches are doing. Maybe he is smarter than them. But it remains something fair to point out.

Consistent. Teddy gives you that. No surprises. if you had the 85 Bears D and All Pro RB you would have your guy.
-
How is this the same tried bs though? Or are you just talking about being critical of Rhule? I just think it is an odd enough call to question Rhule on it. He is very green so things are going to happen. Not thinking your 24 year old QB who is brand new and hasn’t been a very good QB to date….doesn’t need preseason game 1 or 2 is unusual enough to call out IMO. I mean, the case could be made Sam is once again not being out in the best position to succeed. His QB room sucks. His OL sucks. And now we are holding him out of game simulation reps which isn’t the norm for someone like him. I know I know….great weapons and Joe Brady. Those are great things he hasn’t had. But some of Sam’s issues have always been Sam.

Yep. Important to have some preseason work where young QBs aren’t protected like in practice. Gives them a chance to experience and work on things like real ball security.

OP was out too early. Fields had a good first preseason game. 14/20, 70% comp, 175 total yards, 2 TDs.
-
OP really nailed that one. Fields settled in after opening nerves and had an impressive day considering it was his first NFL action.
-
Who said we are doomed lol. But that is the general response by some when people discuss anything about Rhule that isn’t projecting sunshine and rainbows. Fields has nothing to do with this sort of conversation. Which is why I have had them about Rhule before the draft and back into last year

A preseason game is just a game that doesn’t mean anything. But it is a game. It isn’t drills or practice. Game rules apply. So do the consequences when you mess up. You don’t get redos. Dalton out there for the Bears. Tua out here for the Phins. Only guys not playing are successful vets on returning offenses. This is just Matt Rhule being green. Which he is. It’s like Teddy pointing out the red zone practice issues. NFL coaches are getting guys like Sam reps

Matt Rhule after SECOND Joint Practice with the Colts
CRA replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
Different faces. What you think the other teams were doing all week. -

Cool. Practice is still just practice. Patriots, Eagles, Lions all been banging away all week too at practice. -

Good QBs in established roles haven’t been playing. Matt Ryan, Tannehill, Dak, Murray. Cam, Goff, Hurts, etc all have played. Pretty clear line. And Darnold easily falls into the Goff, Cam, Hurts group that needs the reps. -
per Rhule he was going play starters preseason game 1 as late as Wed. Two days later it is doubtful they see any action the next two. that doesn’t sound like a masterplan and big picture vision of how he intended to handle the preseason this year. Sounds like a last minute change that people are declaring is a masterplan just because everything has to be spun that way
-
Seems if you wanted to give guys a game off it would be game 3. That why you aren’t banged up going into week 1. And as of right now it is the only one Rhule will say for certain he will play Darnold and company.

Do we even have a starting lineup on the OL yet?

Actual gameplay vs drills

Certain teams are doing it. Like returning offenses and teams in win now mode. if Urban Meyer made a similar announcement this am….the entire board would be trashing him.
-
and possibly not the next one either.
-
When USC first tired to recruit Sam Darnold….it was to play outside linebacker.
-
The play calling was painful last year. Made Mike Shula look cutting edge. wouldn’t be shocked if they run a multi QB offense in NE this year and insert QBs situationally based on what opponents struggle with

Yeah, collectively professional athletes are just people at the end of the day. The best athletes and the worst ones…are all human at the end of the day. Feel free to view it differently. The Jets game will be different for Sam Darnold than a random matchup vs the Falcons. Because he’s human. How that impacts him? No clue. People are a mixed bag.
-
all games aren’t viewed the same by a player. Nor are all wins and losses. Again, these are just people. And yeah, there are company lines they toss out there that are bs. Some have different meaning and impact….for various reasons. 89’s first game vs Carolina after being fired…wasn’t just a standard game. And those types of games impact people different. The Jets game is unique for Darnold. He wants to win all 17. That’s one is likely to be different for him. These are just normal people that happen to play football. Which means they act like normal people.
