  1. I think the Sam and Teddy decisions would be what dooms him. Not which bad backup he kept between PJ and Grier. Neither should be the backup and the Panther had a tons of opportunity to add better players at QB......but his Sam decision appears to have prevented that. But I do believe if Rhule fails....the QB position and how he managed it will be his downfall. But that's not a conversation about choosing between Grier and PJ.
  2. I understand some want PJ cut and for us to add a veteran who is better. I don't see that happening. For the same reason Menshew wasn't an option. If you add someone better than PJ.....well, you now could have a QB competition with Sam Darnold. Which Rhule doesn't want to deal with. And he would, if Sam remains the inconsistent player he has always been. I lobbied for it initially. I think if you were actually trying to salvage Darnold you would give him a better QB room. As well as a lot of other things we haven't. But the reality is, a veteran QB on the roster that is better than the PJ/Grier tier.....would likely create an atmosphere where Rhule would have to deal with questions on QB that he doesn't want to deal with.
  3. my bad, I misread it lol, I thought you said he pushed the ball 5 yards downfield. As in checked downed. You said something completely different. Carry on.
  4. I mean, that just isn't true. You can dislike PJ, but his instincts are to push the ball downfield. Which is what he does. The correct PJ critique would be...to be critical of him as he attempts to push the ball downfield. Sam Darnold has been the checkdown king of the offseason.
  5. Backups totally contained and bottled up our offense for nearly two full quarters. then with 5 minutes left in the first half they did orchestrate a very nice 2 minute drill….but it still was against backups. The bar is pretty low for that to get the praise it is getting. We looked like a team that has a lot to sort out on offense to be competitive this season.
  6. He isn't bad at it, but I am about tired of Tony Dungy. *and yeah, Brees sucks in that role.
  7. Joe Person sounds like he has been taken hostage. Being forced to send out messages to draw attention away from the uprising.
  8. "players are meeting".....sounds like a possible uprising. Players have probably barricaded themselves inside the building.
  9. bubonic plague or probably cancelled for a team building exercise that features the O and D competing in a homemade DBO sign contest.
  10. I think Alex Smith actually missed 1 game during his 5 years in KC. Health wasn't an issue. Being risk adverse was, which was holding the team back. Which is why they drafted a QB that would sling it despite being a consistent playoff team with Smith. He was routinely sitting out week 17 those seasons as they headed into the playoffs. Alex Smith is a better version of Teddy. Yes. But again, They are the same type of QB. So if you want Sam Darnold to be an Alex Smith type.....you are wanting him to be a Teddy. To which I say, no thank you. I didn't want Teddy because he was a poor man's Alex Smith. You need a QB that makes plays downfield in today's NFL. The selling of Sam Darnold keeps taking dramatic shifts IMO. Should of drafted Fields. Should of drafted Mac. And I disliked Mac Jones. But Mac Jones is making plays downfield in preseason. That is, if the goal for Sam Darnold is now becoming to play like Teddy/Alex.
  11. If you want to argue that Alex Smith isn't a risk adverse QB that refused to pull the trigger.....have at it. It's why a playoff team spent a top 10 pick on a QB in Mahomes despite winning for years with Alex Smith....because he wouldn't make the throws Reid needed. He had the physical ability to. Teddy Bridgewater and Alex Smith are the same type QBs. That isn't new. It was all discussed last year on this very board. And it isn't new why Andy Reid was ready to move on from Alex Smith.
  12. Alex Smith was always the best Teddy comp that existed. Alex Smith wouldn't pull the trigger in KC and ultimately that is why they parted with him. They are both naturally risk adverse QBs that opt for the checkdown/ safe play. Too hard to win with a QB like that. With is why Andy parted with him. Is Alex Smith better than Teddy? When he was healthy? Sure. But that doesn't change the fact Teddy is a similar QB. Why would anyone want Sam to be a version of that? Could of just kept the sure thing.
  13. KC’s Alex Smith but in a Panther uniform….was Teddy Bridgewater. if that is the case the coaches shouldn’t of made it so keeping Teddy was impossible. Teddy Bridgewater is a much better Alex Smith than Darnold can strive to be. It’s in his DNA be like Alex Smith. Seems like the question is…is it okay for Sam to be like Teddy.
  14. Yeah, I mean Haskins couldn’t complete a pass on us hardly last year in the regular season. He had like 2 INTs and a little over a hundred yards with all his WRs. Horn looks good. But we have seen almost nothing from him yet.
  15. They occasionally will cut old vets that are still decent….but are expensive and they feel comfortable making the replacement after a full preseason.
  16. Noticeably absent IMO was intermediate passing. Those don’t require the same kind of protection as needed for the deep ball. Talking 10-20 yards downfield. Think he hit one and it was the the 2nd to last throw. Which often is just reading the field. in the game and per reporters in camp, he largely is just looking for the safe and short route. hard to win playing like that. Saw that last season. And it’s why the Steeler backups helps their own for almost the entire first half IMO.
  17. I’m not sure I buy he had 4 attempts that traveled further in the air than 9 yards. I saw 2. A completion and a miss. The others must of been right at the line. He was definitely playing safe small ball.
  18. I don’t think it has anything to do with Sam’s feelings….as much as it does with what Rhule would have to deal with in regards to the media and fans. Maybe locker room too. Straight up, Menshew is a better QB right now than Sam. That would be a problem for Rhule. He bet he could turn Sam into what some thought he could be.
  19. Gonna move the DBO sign a little further back
  20. well, their JV D did a pretty good job in the first half all things considered. Mike Tomlin was probably thrilled with that group overall in the first half. took a 2 minute drill as time was running out in the half for them to finally look like the JV D. and they started their 3rd string project QB. that was a JV Steeler squad. They had an extra preseason game and used their starters the week prior.
