The backup QB spot being a daily argument around here….is a reminder that the starting QB spot is the actual issue. And no, neither of them should be the starter.
-
Replay was a closeup of Darnold and his eyes. He was locked on from the snap.
-
Next week per his presser: asked about a plan for next week: Rhule said he didn’t want to say then said probably about a half. Maybe more, maybe less. reporter followed up on if it was important for Sam to get a half in: Rhule then said he didn’t say a half. Went on about not wanting to put him out there a lot without other guys

He didn’t catch any action that I saw they had a backup QB and hurt WRs. Wasn’t really a chance to have someone test him Steelers should given him some work….if their starters play. Hard to guess how teams will run game 3. Lot seemed to use game 2 as the heavy game. Big Ben got a good many reps today

Yeah, the busted Jets QB that has been the worst starter the last several years. We don’t even know the Jets didn’t ruin him yet….or how much of the problem he actually was. multiple reporters have written about and even asked Rhule about him checking down so heavily the past weeks at these joint scrimmages. Rhule clearly didn’t want to ask much of him tonight either. Sam is still a huge question mark. And it’s why we are debating everyday about two weak backup QBs
-
We don’t even know if Darnold is functional to be honest at this stage. he has spent the past couple weeks just checking down per reporters at these practices that are deemed way more important than preseason….and Rhule clearly looked shy to ask anything of him tonight

It’s like carrying another Joey Slye. Does having two Syles help you?
-
I don’t feel comfortable with Darnold. And PJ and Grier aren’t the answer either. I mean it doesn’t matter who the backup is. Grier isn’t going to win your more games than PJ. And PJ isn’t going to win you more games than Darnold. So good or bad Darnold is the guy this year.
-
PJ Walker has actually won a NFL game. So there’s that too. But as a said, more importantly, which QB would serve your team better as your D preps for Kyler Murray, Josh Allen, Hurts, Hill, etc that we have on the schedule? That’s how I look at it. Who can help the team. That’s how one of those two could actually help
-
To date doesn’t mean this one game in a vacuum. And I am watching it. He is garbage tonight. Just like Grier is when playing with guys who won’t make a roster. PJ is a Rhule guy. He won with him in college and pulled off a win with his last year. Grier ain’t jumping him because of tonight. And as I have said before, PJ is more valuable to use in weekly prep in season as he can mimic more diverse play than Grier for our d
-
Grier is worse to date though. And PJ is a Rhule guy on top of that.
-
I felt coming in it would be the Will Grier show. Rhule gave him a shot to go out and put up whatever tape he could. Did him a solid. there is no point in having Darnold, PJ and Grier.
-
DJ Moore is simply flat out the best overall WR on the team. And younger than Robby. If you opt to pay Robby and let Moore go….you are overthinking football.
-
Without actually looking, I’d say at most maybe 4 of the 17 teams did last season. and that is giving you Kelce and letting him be a WR
-
One pass completion where he starred down his WR. One throw away. Everything else a run and they turned it over on downs at the 1. *The started drive somewhere near the Balt 30 because of an INT by the D
-
Sam Darnold’s night is one single pass completion where he starred down the WR the entire time. And that’s it lol. gotta think if they weren’t setup by that INT almost in the red zone that Grier would have gotten the start.
-
My bold hot take prediction is Will Grier will overwhelming be the QB. . Rhule is going to let him audition for another job. Our actual defense does make an appearance minus Burns. But that’s all we get.
-
Again, I’m not talking about my predictions. I’m talking about simply understanding how the outside might view us and getting that. only 5 teams had worse records than us last year. We are coming off back to back 5 win seasons. We added Sam Darnold to replace Teddy. what would make a random fan think we are going to be noteworthy better this year? Every team added rookies they are high on helping them I think we win between 7-9 games. Which is close to where I think we could of got last year with a healthy CMC. If CMC goes out this year? I’d bump us down to 4-5ish. I like Chubba but a rookie Chubba probably isn’t going to be what Mike Davis was for us last year.
-
100%. Any moment he could find himself in less ideal conditions. You can’t predict health. Guys could get banged up week 1 in the first quarter. That’s the NFL.
-
And Rhule said that impacts if he can put Sam on the field today
-
has there ever been any report Joe Brady made the call for the these QBs….could be just as easy that these are just the guys the FO gave him to work with. If Joe Brady went around and got what he wanted….our drafts would look different. Got to think same applies FAs too. I mean he has input and I’m sure we have landed some dudes he wanted…
-
I think he looked good year 1 overall for a rookie OC. Short yardage and red zone needs improvement.
-
Just a talking perception to the outside world. it’s understandable for them to be down on us. So what gets us out of the 5 win territory for an outsider? Rhule and some GM no one knows is? Sam Darnold? I’m not arguing we are bottom 6. Just I get people putting us there.
-
In 2019 we had CMC….and only won 5 games too. And we had Luke and those vets then. CMC doesn’t overcome not having QB play.
