My bad. It’s pretty easy. a fringe starter, the way I define it, is someone that isn’t very good but can earn a starting role on a team that doesn’t really have much at the position or finds themselves in a bad spot. take our LT as an example. He is a fringe starter. You put him on 32 other rosters….and he is a backup on the vast majority of them. But he starts for us. How long? Who knows. Give all 32 teams Sam. How many would start him over their QB? Maybe 1? Hou? Now, maybe Sam can develop into something better. That is the goal and plan. But he is what he is present day.

I think Sam's stats will look very similar to the ones Teddy posted last year. Slightly lower comp % and maybe a couple more TDs. Nothing earth shattering. but with more wins attached to his name than Teddy.

Panthers waiver claims and practice squad signings
CRA replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Rhule's college crew is going to largely be on the roster. Not PS. Come on now, Rhule ain't going to do his guys like that. -
Ron Rivera took over a 2 win team that featured Jimmy Clausen as the QB. Fox took over a 1 win team that featured Weinke as the QB. Rhule isn't in some unique horrible spot.

They all played for Rhule at Temple. So did all the Baylor guys. -
I mean, Rivera cracked heads with the 85 Bears. He is going to naturally going to have a big edge over someone like Rhule in a defensive locker room. I mean, even if Rivera and Rhule weren't NFL coaches. Rivera is going to be a fit in that setting.

Stats clearly don't tell you what actually happened but here they are Game 3 - 13/23, 52%, 158 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 2 sacks. Fum. Game 2 - 1/3, 33%, 5 yards Game 1 - 5/9, 55%, 45 yards -

they did win a handful with Dalton last year. And Dalton looks like he belongs in the XFL at this stage. What would be worse? Losing to Will Grier with the Cowboys? Or Cam going to Hou and losing to Cam complimented by the worst team in football? -
ok, but as a fan, having a new owner doesn't actually change how I view a HC.
-
Capers took over an expansion team Fox took over a 1 win team Rivera took over a 2 win team They all were in the postseason within 3 years. It's the NFL. This year and the next IMO should decide if Rhule should stay or leave.
-
PJ gets my vote over Grier for the same reason I endorsed PJ at the end over Teddy. PJ's style of play is simply more entertaining. So if winning and mattering goes out the window....might as well be entertained.
-
well, that isn't my preferred method. But if you are going to go the route of trying to resurrect/fix Sam Darnold. I would have done it.
-
Will got a 2% chance. PJ got a 1% chance. Whatever it actually is, I almost think any conversation that involves PJ/Grier is splitting hairs. What we needed to of done is not go all in on Sam Darnold. Darnold is the underlying reason everyone is so passionate about this pointless debate. If we were going this route, we should of brought in two guys IMO. So you bring in Darnold and Mitch T. Or Darnold and Menshew. Let them compete. Increase your odds.

and that's just football money

Cam, 89 and Olsen all lost their jobs and went on to find the best one they could get when they left with another team. where they went to play changes nothing about what they were to us. None of them forced their way out.

not without the shot

Jaguars just released a statement basically saying….Urban didn’t mean what he said. yeah, BB saying it that is just the proper coach lie they must say when the spotlight is on it

No. Matt Rhule isn't on par with Kelly, Saban, Spurrier in terms of being a college coach. He might be a better NFL one. Matt Rhule was almost a .500 coach in college and pulled off 1 conference title in his career. He did pull teams out of the gutter and make them respectable. But they basically just beat who they were suppose to beat and lost to everyone else. Rhule wasn't a Hall of Fame caliber college coach. Other 3 are.
-
got to expand it out beyond just winning records too. Look at the losers. How many of those coaches got more than 1 shot at being a HC. That's part of the equation. A Romeo Crennel, a Dom Capers, a Buddy Ryan all get second shots because they are NFL guys who stay in the league. Saleh would go back to being a DC for a minute if he doesn't succeed at attempt #1. Like a Josh McDaniels did. Wait for his second chance. Rhule isn't going to go be a NFL coordinator most likely and hang around. Which lowers his odds of NFL success.

1st Time NFL Head Coaches hired Directly from College since 2000: Matt Rhule, Carolina Panthers 5-11 Kliff Kingsbury, Arizona Cardinals 13-18-1 Bill O’Brien, Houston Texans 52-48 Chip Kelly, Philadelphia Eagles 26-21 Doug Marrone, Buffalo Bills 15-17 Greg Schiano, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 11-21 Jim Harbaugh, San Francisco 49ers 44-19-1 Bobby Petrino, Atlanta Falcons 3-10 Nick Saban, Miami Dolphins 15-17 Steve Spurrier, Washington Football Team 12-20 Butch Davis, Cleveland Browns 24-35 That's why the answer is Saleh. Not Rhule. Which isn't hate. Just NFL history. Almost all lost. One team and gone. And then you look at NFL coordinators turned HC over the last 20 years.....you have guys like McVay, McDermott, etc in one grouping that stack against them. And then you have average guys like Rivera, Arians, etc that after they failed at their first stop...get second chances with new teams. and that is a list that contains some of the best college football had to offer. And Rhule wasn't a Saban, Spurrier, Kelly, etc tier college coach.
-
Saleh. That’s who you would put money on. Rhule is a college coach and has legit odds of going back to college if things don’t work out here. That alone IMO would make you lean toward Saleh. Saleh would stay in the NFL most likely if the Jets don’t work out. all about the QB lotto in the end though.

You mean heard his name type familiar?
