Depends. I think we are good to go if Sam is the QB. Foreman and Chubba fit that IMO. I just think Corral would be a Corral specific offense. And I don’t think Foreman and Chubba serve that one as well. I don’t view Sam and Matt as interchangeable QBs into the same offense and playcalls. So who is playing might would dictate slightly what style of players you want. Think we should be prepared either way.

Another pro of adding RB that fits a Corral friendly scheme would be the hopeful flexibility of moving CMC to the slot some. Which could be a lethal combo with Corral’s quick trigger
-
I'm not talking about much of an investment. We have CMC. Just some who schematically fits a system that Corral does well for depth if he gets hurt again. and if we are putting Matt Corral back there I want him to have success. But he will be a rookie. Pairing him up w/ a rooke to take on those pass protections and all that I don't think sounds ideal. Rookie RBs often struggle in that area.
-
I have said you don't need to pay RBs big money. Which you don't. You can find them rather easily that can produce. We don't have one presently on the roster, CMC went down, that fits the type scheme that was suggested in the first post. Which would be a blend of what Corral did at Ole Miss and McAdoo did well in NY. Mix those together it isn't isn't an offense catered toward a power runner IMO. Best RB last year for us was the random kid we signed from Minny. He was diverse. Could do it all. Was the best overall RB we had on our roster once CMC went down. Nothing negative in this thread buddy. Matt Rhule done given you a sickness. That's all you looking for.
-
that's still more of a gadget/infusion to a ground attack though. If CMC is done and we were to run a heavy gun look that was a mix of what Corral/McAdoo have done well? We would need a legit RB that fits it full time. I mean, you could still sprinkle some Deboo type looks into that I guess.
-
I hadn't heard that before. To me, that sounds like a bad answer to the question. He might could handle a random end around. But we need a RB that can sit back in shotgun, deal w/ read playaction looks, pass protect, all that jazz. DJ Moore (while one of my favorites), ain't that guy.
-
Obviously, we have a CMC who can do literally anything. But based on history I think the roster has to be built where you have a plan for if he goes down for an extended period. We brought in D'onta Foreman. A power back. Which is fine. He would have fit in very nice for what Matt Rhule really wanted to do about midway through last season. Take the ball out of the QBs hands and just hand it off and grind it out. He talked about it alot. We rarely did it. We also have Hubbard, which while he isn't a power running RB he is almost exclusively a runner at this point. Needs a lot of work on his hands being a complete and diverse RB at this stage. But is that really a great fit if we do go to a scheme built to cater to Matt Corral at some point this season. Is that a fit for what McAdoo had success doing as an OC with Eli? Corral like so many are most comfortable and at their best playing out of the shotgun. Same w/ Eli when McAdoo was the OC in 2014 and 2015. Seems like if you combined what Corral does well and what McAdoo did well in NY.....we would need to be running a lot of our O out of the shotgun w/ a RB suited for a lot of zone read style playaction looks and with hands. Not sure we have anyone on the roster behind CMC that really suits that.

Kurt Warner on The Herd, talking about our new QB.

Pepperidge Farm Remembers * I mean, I am a firm believer that 2003 is the greatest season from a fan following perspective. Even better than the 2015 run. We at least knew we had Cam and Luke. It make sense they could dominate. 2003 was just out of left field and the games were so so close so often. Peak Panther entertainment IMO. -

I thought the reveal was a tad weak this year but their standard is super high -
Matt Rhule has never lead pass heavy teams. And when he talks it is always more of a John Fox type approach IMO. His talk on many levels never matches the action. He has been trying to land OC jobs for the last 3 years. Going from former HC to only the worst team in the NFL giving you a position job seems like rejection. the Rhule fan club keeps talking hatred. I’m just talking about a the fact we have an incompetent college HC running things and the disaster season we are coming off of. Water is wet.

I think the opening game vs Philly the following year was the saddest game I have ever watched. almost a complete clone. The end of Jake Delhomme. -

Nah. Panthers Twitter and social media became legendary during the Ron era. Best in professional sports for a window. No matter what was going down they were always ready with great material. They would troll folks. Destroy teams. Funny memes. You name it. It’s wasn’t run of the mill Panther info. It was entertaining. -

I mean, in fairness because this isn’t about coaches and owners…..but the Panther social media really became a big deal at some point in the Ron era. I’m sure that group really deserves a lot of the praise for its present day standing. Think there was a thread a couple months ago on the young lady leaving that pretty much spearheaded that window. -

28/32, 513 yards and 4 TDs. Added on 20 and 1 TD on the ground too. Good sign. Our track record of drafting QBs that have busted them up is pretty stellar. Still don’t think some are over what Cam did to them. -

It’s still a Rhule decision and it likely was going to be pretty bad one in a non-Covid world too. It's still a Rhule creation. and I don’t think the thought experiment of but if Rhule would have known Covid was coming he would have left Phil Snow and others in college really works And again, the cap didn’t force him to cut a lot of those vets you named. He wanted to. Most of those were more moving on decisions from the prior era and not cap issues. Which is fine. Bradberry was a cap one. Luke hurt. But that’s really it. Just can’t then use it as some crutch given he wanted it that way.
-
I guess my issue is nice percentage of the things you list…..were choices Matt Rhule made. They weren’t forced upon him or inherited. for example you stating he had coaches that had never called a play in the NFL as OC and DC. He chose that. He created that needless hurdle. So to say other coaches had it is easier because they had experienced coaches was something the HCs dictated. same with a lot do those players he “lost”. He controlled and decided on a lot of that. Bad situations just exist. Rhule isn’t unique. Not in Carolina or the league. Look at Atlanta. New HC. Think they are kicking off with the most dead cap space in the history of the NFL. That’s rough. He lost Matt Ryan. Who was playing at a higher level than 2019 Cam. He lost his most talented WR to suspension all year. He lost his most productive WR to Tampa Bay. No one cares. I mean you can squabble this year or that year ranks slightly worse or whatever but it really doesn’t matter IMO. Train wrecks are train wrecks in large part. A good coach is going to start to show he is good coach even in a bad spot. Rhule isn’t doing that.

somewhere Jimmy Clausen is taking a break from making a hilarious cameo for Matty and reading the huddle....wondering where all these diehard defenders of the subpar were back in 2010. *the Clausen cameo post might be the post of the year.

Jokes are even less funny if I have to explain the joke. The joke isn't a shot at someone's "manhood". It is a joke referencing how fiercely committed to defending Matt Rhule someone is. -

This feels like Chicago last year. The smart play was to go all in on Fields in camp. Cater an O to what he does well. Yet the coach stubbornly wanted to pointlessly roll Dalton out there. Then inserted Fields into the Dalton O when forced into it.
