Sounds like Jets' 2nd pick is open for business...?
CRA replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, the question to me is....is Zach Wilson worth multiple first round picks plus several additional picks to acquire. That's the question IMO. -

I'm not suggesting you base an assessment off of one game. But if we are giving up a ton of draft picks for a kid....I'd like a better resume than one great year vs meh competition. Just spending the #8 pick on any of these QB would be a big enough gamble in itself. I think Field's has the highest ceiling of all the QBs. Which includes my boy Trevor. But I don't want to trade away a ton of picks for him either. -

you said that was his best game. I don't think it is a silly take to say give me a game where someone legitimately wowed...when we are talking about giving up an assortment of first round draft picks and what not for them. -

But we aren't just talking about being top 10 worthy. We are talking about being worth multiple first round picks plus an assortment of picks from other rounds. I think if you are going to give away all that.....there should be at least one example where you go, see that game. That's why he is worth it. -

I don't want to give up a fortune for someone whose signature game is against a 6 win Central Florida team. Draft him at 8 is a big enough gamble as is. -
He literally just ran for public office last election cycle. He admitted to using created fake texts as the mayor of Houston was calling on him to be criminally prosecuted. I’ve continuously maintained either side could be telling the truth and people need to pump the breaks on judgement

Pretend he doesn't have injury concerns. If I told you to point to one game where he showed he was worth trading up to the #2 spot....what game would that be? -

Difference is Watson was a proven elite talent in college and a proven elite talent in the NFL. Wilson is none of that. I don't see how people can be anti-Watson deal pre scandal and pro Wilson trade up. -

overbidding for a proven NFL commodity is one thing....over bidding for a dude whose signature game was losing to Coastal Carolina doesn't do it for me.- 115 replies

it isn't my opinion that the attorney has political aspirations or that he has committed sketchy acts like creating fake text messages in an attempt to dupe people.

our 2022 1st round pick, 2023 1st round pick, 2023 3rd round pick plus something as that still doesn't meet the basic valuation point total. 10 points shy. Jets probably would be looking for overpayment as well rather than barebones. Cost is way too high for someone like Wilson. I'm just not a fan. Doesn't have the resume for such a price. -
Well, I'd argue in 2015 he was the best player in the NFL. He won MVP. And his peers voted him as the #1 player. I mean if that isn't an argument for it.....what is? and I am not a fan of Lance. He is a very very poor man's version of Cam. And that doesn't work. Cam worked because he was the most dominant runner in NFL history at the position.
-
I don't buy that. He transcended into being the best player in football. And when he had a clean bill of health after he climbed that mountain.....he was great. He wasn't figured out. His body wasn't holding up. KB and Funchess are examples of building poorly around Cam. The notion Cam needed only big targets. We put 3 TEs on the field, none of who could actually separate. Go over the top. Made life easy on defenses. It is why when you got rid of KB. Funchess' role shrank....and you inserted Ginn, Philly, etc. he became MVP. Cam was a streaky player. That's what some players are. Some are gamblers. Some have to be robots and machines for success. I think there is too much fixation on we didn't fix his mechanics. To change him. You can't and shouldn't focus on fixing everyone's mechanics. Doesn't necessarily mean the outcome is better. You can just mess up something that worked. Cam wasn't the problem. Yet he all the attention was and remains almost exclusively focused on him. That if only we fixed this with Cam things would have been better. I disagreed then and now with that emphasis. We should of fixed what was around Cam. It was much worse than Cam getting lazy with his feet.
-
it isn’t underestimation. Just acknowledging what he is and has been of late. which is sketchy, attention seeking with political aspirations. And it is all running through him via quickly stacked allegations that all read nearly identical. and then you factor in Watson’s credibility and earned rep...which means you got to wait until the facts actually start coming into play before you convict him in the court of public opinion.
-
Main thing that has me pumping the breaks on judgement is that no matter the number the allegations remain largely all the same....and via the same attorney. clearly trade talk is paused. Not ready to convict Watson yet.
-
The burden isn’t on Watson to prove his innocence though. Short term he takes a hit but we know how that story goes in America. It moves on and forgets. and given who the attorney is (if all this is turns out to be allegations of he said she said)......all Watson’s team has to do is prove one is liar in the public square. which is problematic in the grand scheme of their really are victims though. And a reason why a shady lawyer can be a problem.
-
Well, my opinion, is Cam basically was that....we got the best of what he could be. He climbed the ladder to being the best player in the NFL. Cam wasn't the reason we didn't win more. The problem wasn't we didn't develop him correctly IMO. The problem was the other players around him and our inability to build well rounded teams. We wasted great years that we had with Cam. And if you "developed" Cam to be this more ideal QB IMO you risk ever having him be great. Cam is just too unique.
-
Well, as I have said, I went into this wanting Cam from the jump. But when I lobbied for him I always believed he would have a short career because his body was going to be put on the line in ways you don't normally see. I loved the Cam era. I still think the biggest issue was simply the bodies/talent we put around him weren't good enough. A front office problem.
-
Letting Cam be Cam also means not trying to make him fit in your box.....which in large part would have prevented Cam from having success IMO. Cam was literally the best player in the NFL at one point. Letting Cam be Cam worked. Just came down could you put bodies around him that he needed. Plus, there is the personality aspect. Not just the playing style aspect. Ron let Cam be Cam there....which was also a big aspect of things. That likely could of gone wrong for a lot of teams as well. Coaches IMO often get treated like QBs. Too much credit and too much blame often. Ron Rivera is a very solid coach. Ron wasn't the problem. Personnel IMO often was.
-
well, he got hurt being a great football player. I think Cam was always more of a great football player than great QB. Like The Golden Calf of Bristol in some respects just even more physically gifted. Tom Brady doesn't get hurt on that play because Tom Brady ain't running that guy down and making the diving tackle. Brady focused on playing QB.
-
that's adding words though. "develop" I said I think Ron was a good fit for Cam Newton. A unicorn in almost every imaginable way.
-
well, I was always a firm believer that if you saw Cam Newton achieve greatness in the NFL.......you would also see him have a shorter career than most that were able to climb to that tier. I never believed in transitioning him to a guy that would play a long time. I wanted him to play Cam football in the NFL. He did. He was great. We could of done more while he did it but we sucked at building a team around him that would win.
-
I'm going to slightly disagree with this. Big picture, I think Ron Rivera was actually a good fit for Cam. Rivera did in large part let Cam be Cam. Both from a playing perspective and personality style. I don't think many coaches would have done that and it was the only way you would have seen the good Cam. Which we did. I think the biggest disservice they did to Cam was form a personnel stand point and building around him poorly.
-
just got to let it play out. I mean you could invent a million hypotheticals at this point in any direction.
-
I mean this this time last week Watson was still the golden child.... Outing people? Watson’s camp likely doesn’t even know who all they facing allegations against at this point and who they would need to counter.
