  1. yeah, and I am not opposed to calculated gambles. I mean negative plays are a given if you do it. It’s not always going to go your way. But Teddy wouldn’t take them. You have to take them in the NFL.
  2. I think Sam makes substantially more plays downfield. But he is going to have more negative plays too than Teddy. Just comes down to what the ratio looks like.
  3. Sam is going to be a 4th year starting QB in the NFL. He simply isn’t going to get 2-3 years to see if it works like a actual draft prospect....and many drafted prospects now only get a year to show what they got.
  4. I don’t think he was at the bottom. I wanted Sam because I thought he had the biggest positive/upside out the guys available we would be able to pursue. But they forced themselves into the position of having to get someone comparable to Teddy at minimum. I don’t see us really that much different now vs the start of last season on the QB front. Just hope the outcome is better. Which it likely should be. But we still need a QB. Just like we did when we brought in Teddy. I viewed Teddy as a bandaid until we could bring in someone. That’s still Sam from my outlook. And I don’t think the coaches would or should say that reality then or now. They give traditional coach speech on it.
  5. well, they are 6th rounders. Gross Matos had off field concerns and we took him in the 2nd. So I think last year was a bigger concern than this one. He was a high pick and his troubles were big enough for us to know them. Not worried about it. They clearly weren’t big enough to leak out.
  6. In fairness, they worked themselves into a position where they forced themselves into having to bring in someone. At least someone generally on par with Teddy. Teddy got thrown too hard under the bus while they scrambled for Stafford/Watson. He was done here after that. Everyone saw that. I mean I advocated for the Darnold move....because it was clear we had to do something. It was the best move to make after the position we found ourselves in.
  7. I know about the 6th round Bama G being fat. I don’t consider that an off field issue really. I mean I guess it is...off field to me is character. I’ve never heard a peep about Shi. I’m pretty dialed in to Gamecocks football too despite being a Clemson fanboy. But Muschamp is pretty tight lipped and did a good job keeping things quiet around his program. I guess there could be something there....but he could be overreacting to standard stuff to justify himself going a tad later than he wanted.
  8. What player had off the field concerns??
  9. I think Sam makes more big plays than Teddy. I think he makes more negative plays too. Will just have to see what that looks like.
  10. Horn went 8 off a combo of talent, highest ceiling and need. Pure BPA? Was probably Smith at 8.
  11. if Terrace Marshalll gets up to speed quick...I think what Joe Brady opts to do in the slot inside is going to be really interesting. I think DJ has the best and most diverse ability in that spot.
  12. Well you didn’t specifically ask about this...but special teams. I’m personally tired of the Joey Sly experiment at K Thought the local kid we brought off his couch to punt did a good job. I still would like someone I felt confident in as a PR guy. Just fielding them clean has been a nerve racking feeling most seasons.
  13. Hurney era teams lived off the back of superstars and how much they could carry us IMO. minus maybe the 2003 run. That was a pretty well built team. After that we got too reliant on a handful of guys.
  14. Shi (6th) was an incredible value especially looking at where Amari Rodgers (3rd) got drafted. I don’t think they are that far apart as players.
  15. We got a Dan Morgan, Kris Jenkins and 89? .
  16. Is our OL stacked minus the LT spot? Seemed like leading into the draft our weak OL was a issue...not just the fact we need a LT.
  17. the grade of this draft will come down to how the QB/OL play looks this year IMO If it’s bad? Well...this draft and the choices will be heavily discussed.
  18. Our GM is from Seattle and influenced by the success they had. So he drafted a DB that most resembled that. I question if the Legion of Boom was formed today...if refs would allow them to get away with everything they did. It will be interesting to see how far Horn will be allowed to push the limits.
  19. I think Otah was knees. Think Duke Robinson was the weight guy?
  20. Given the loss of Samuel...Shi is a good mix to what we got if the position. Was wondering who we could throw in the slot. wish he returned punts college though. Feel certain the Panthers will have him audition for it. One day we hopefully will finally just draft one out of college.
  21. He literally quit and opted out after the Ole Miss game. He didn’t figuratively quit. and I don’t and didn’t knock him for it. It was the right call. I support kids making business decisions like that. He would have pointlessly been risking injury. He only played in 7 games vs Surtain who played in 13 games. Surtain was targeted more because he played in almost double the games. But they averaged about the same number of targets per game when they played. I agree Horn has the highest ceiling. I like him. It’s a weird convo about using the 8 spot that keeps being pulled into something it isn’t intended to be.
  22. Yeah, I’m way too old to just start throwing insults...because someone doesn’t have the same opinion on a football pick as me lol My family is full of Gamecocks. Got family and friends that played there. I go to games when they ain’t playing Clemson. Life ain’t that serious.
  23. 2020 Surtain averaged 3.6 targets per game Horn averaged 3.4 targets per game 2019 Farley averaged 4.5 targets per game Horn had noticeably less total targets on the year because he quit after the Ole Miss game. Surtain played a full season + the playoffs.
