You think the Carolina FO has looked good since Rhule has been here in regards to how they have dealt with the QB scenarios? I think drafting Fields adds to the blemish right now and they opted not too....and I don’t think it takes a lot of talking. Again, they can just go win more with Sam than they did last year and kick the QB can. Our fan base will be happy with 9 wins. And that is obtainable with Sam not changing one bit.

You aren’t new to the NFL. Front offices do a lot of dumb things. and I wouldn’t call it Panther PR. I would call it personal ego and looking out for themselves. Self awareness of how they are looking in a short window in respect to the QB spot. Darnold also is a relativity safe move at this point. We most likely will win more games this year than this past year. So it works for the short term. Rhule wins more in year 2.

I don’t think his take is dumb....it’s just not your take. I think the management overall of the QB situation in a small window likely factored in too -they looked bad in how the Cam era ended here -they brought in and overpaid Teddy and that blew up in their face -they looked bad throwing Teddy under the bus as they failed in pursuing Stafford/Watson (we are fortunate in hindsight there) - they worked themselves into a position Teddy had to go and a scenario existed where a QB might not even be available in the draft at #8. So they had to acquire someone before the draft to prevent a going backwards scenario (which would have been not having a QB fall to 8 and ending up with just Grier and Walker) - Teddy fiasco went so bad they are having to pay him to be the starting QB in Denver Then a QB fell. Adding Fields then IMO, to some, also plays into the narrative and spotlights even more so the fact that they have handled that spot extremely poorly in a short window of time here. We have seen some bad front offices here. All over the league too. They might be one too. I think you are too quick to paint everything they do as 4 D chess and right. QB looks pretty messy to me. To others. It isn’t outlandish for them to be self aware of how that looks in a small window and it to impact them.

Darnold is an actual NFL QB who has started in this league for 3 years. And the comparison was to the talk we saw with Teddy when we brought him in and the talk we are now seeing as we bring Sam in. I mean we know a good bit about Darnold. Just like we did with Teddy. my issue is equating Darnold to a 2021 top 10 draft pick. He isn’t that. no one knows what will happen. But we need a QB....and we aren’t picking the best lotto tickets IMO.

they haven't had a losing season the last 3 years. And they pulled that off with really bad QB play. Worse places for a young QB to land. Allen Robinson is a legit stud WR IMO and they got a good TE group. With a good defense providing aid and helping situational football. I mean it isn't a bad spot for a rookie QB form a talent aspect. He doesn't need to do that much early on. And they could always improve the talent around him and add a weapons as he develops.

I'm not talking about mocks. Mocks aren't BPA (top prospect rankings). Mocks factor in a lot more stuff. Needs and what they know teams are looking to do. BPA in a draft could be a RB and he be mocked at 7. Cam got mocked to #1 once it was widely believed we would do it. But Cam was a pretty risky pick at the time. For many reasons. One that many people were okay with given our need. I thought it was a no brainer and lobbied for him before the nation was cool with Cam at #1 talk. Same with the other QBs that also went in the top 10. I mean you are what you based on who picks you. Cam was the #1 overall pick. He wasn't viewed as a top 10 prospect in that draft. Neither were the Gabbert and Locker. There just happened to be teams in the top 10 with massive holes at QB.

Cam wasn't actually deemed the top prospect in the 2011 draft either though. Don't think he was even slated as one of the top 10 prospects by most. We simply picked him #1. We opted for the calculated gamble because we needed a QB.

They temporarily fill the hole. You then generally give them 2-4 years to grow and work on being the actual solution. After that period you generally know if you still have a hole or not. Exceptions to everything. So you will see a rare Rosen that doesn’t get the time. You also have bodies in the NFL. Bodies can sometimes have potential to be more and exceed expectations. But I don’t think you can overly play into the potential and expectations. Saw that with Teddy. Seeing that with Darnold. Bringing in Darnold was the right call….but the narrative that he is on par with bringing in Zach Wilson or Justin Fields for an org just isn’t how I look at things.

Depends who you acquire. You sign Teddy Bridgewater to a deal today for 2 years. Does your franchise have a QB? I'd say you have a hole and a need at QB. That needs to be solved before you will do anything. Sign Tom Brady? I'd say you are in win now mode for at least 2 years and have a QB short term.

I think you are trying over complicate this. If you draft a QB high.....you give him a real shot. No one expecting the bar to be Cam Newton blowing the doors off out of the gate or you go back to the draft. You give a Mitch Trubisky legit time. Which he got. Then they moved on. Teams that don't have a QB should be looking to solve that as their first priority in today's NFL. adding Dwayne Haskins, Sam Darnold, etc in 2021 can't be viewed on par with going to the NFL draft and acquiring a top 10 QB.

Depends what not playing well means. Does Cam show promise and tremendous talent? Then yeah, you roll with Cam. You drafted someone you believe can be your franchise QB. Playing well for a rookie QB isn't measured in wins or losses or even stats IMO. If he is Clausen level bad? Then yeah, you acknowledge the bust after year one and go back to attempting to solve the QB problem. The Cardinals did the right thing by acknowledging Rosen was trash and went back to the draft immediately when the opportunity was there.

That gets pretty weird though.... The Bears and Steelers didn't land a comparable QBs this offseason. Dwayne Haskins can't be viewed as a first round QB prospect in 2021.

Nothing to disagree with. I didn't say you draft Cam Newton #1 and just give him one year to be great or draft another QB. Bears were right to draft Fields. After Trubisky had the opportunity and time show he wasn't the answer. They shouldn't of drafted one in Trubisky's 2nd year. But we don't have a QB right now. The rest of the world isn't going to view Sam Darnold as a first round draft pick and pretend like his 3 years starting at QB don't exist.

Teams that have a hole at QB should. I mean, that is what the discussion is centered around. Not having a QB. If you draft Cam Newton.....obviously you don't keep drafting QBs.

true. I don't like saying it. But the league has designed it that way. I personally liked prior eras better.

that chart is all about positional value to a team. It's why the list is all LBs, DBs, RBs, and the right side of the OL. That isn't how you go about building a team in the NFL. Those positions are largely complimentary to team with the key ingredients.... that have a QB, OL that slants left, WRs, and a DL.

If Horn becomes a Pro Bowler and Fields becomes a Pro Bowler.....it becomes a massive and epic failure. Just because of the impact positionally. Doesn't really have anything to do with the specific players mentioned. What is the hit rate on first round DBs vs first round QBs? Pretty bad on both. Like everything else. But if you don't have a QB...the QB scratch off ticket is generally going to be the right call over any other spot in the first. Hindsight is hindsight. Hindsight can make anything dumb. But it's not a good article.

they used too many words to say something simple. Drafting a player that turns into the best RB or DB in the entire NFL....doesn't actually mean anything in today's NFL. That isn't how you go about winning in today's NFL. Those are complimentary pieces to your QB driven team. The key to real and lasting NFL success is finding a QB. Nothing really matters until you find one. Can you win without one? Maybe. But it generally is a one year fluke and you are right back to not mattering.

It's a QB league now. It's why the Jags would part with Ramsey and the Packers will let Rodgers take a massive dump on them and pretend he didn't.

I mean, everything is faster and more efficient than bitcoin and eth. I think Elon is probably doing just as much harm as good in this space. I think Elon will be a factor in why the government comes to regulate the crypto space.

the 2015 Panthers went 15-1 and the 2009 Panthers went 8-8. That’s at least a good sign. Lions sort of distort the list. Lot of playoff teams on that list and a couple Super Bowl squads.
