Doesn’t the bolded largely apply to all 3 though? Would that not describe Rhule’s overall college experience?
-
Well, they aren’t college coaches. I wasn’t alluding to them being able to go college. But Ron and Fox are the NFL variant IMO. You could give them the worst team in the NFL. Give them 3-4 years. And it would be respectable IMO.
-
We went to two NFCCGs and 1 SuperBowl 4 years in with Hurney. And Hurney was active in FA and brought in key pieces to go along with his drafts. There were no bad contracts to bitch about. No overinvesting in RBs to bitch about. Everything you hate about him hadn't happened yet. Early Marty Hurney was most definitely praised in places like this. And frankly, deserved at the time.
-
how was Hurney viewed around 2005? 4 years in, Hurney had a fantastic reputation in places like this. You don't really know a guy, until you know a guy. We don't know Fitts.

Teddy under Joe Brady best comp % most passing yards most passing TDs most rushing yards most rushing TDs Individually, Joe Brady gave Teddy the best season of his career.

I think there is actually a lot of Fox/Ron in Matt Rhule. all 3 would be great coaches to pull a team out of the gutter and put together something stable. Are any of them more than that? That would be the question and I don't think there is an answer yet.
-
is he good? Way too early to tell for a GM. Gettlemen was lauded and praised as great once. And I am old enough to remember when Marty Hurney was praised as a fantastic GM. I think it takes a GM longer than a HC often to show if they are the guy or not.

2 good reasons not to over-react to tomorrow's game
CRA replied to bigdavis's topic in Carolina Panthers
We aren't even getting to face their backup QB. This is preseason game 4 in a preseason game 3 world for them. I doubt a lot of teams will play their starters in game 3 this week either. Think the window for starters was likely last week. Rhule just in his own world. -
the XFL is probably pretty comparable to the level of play you will watch in the second half tonight. XFL is slammed full of those guys. A ton of Panthers were playing in the XFL

Panthers changing their strategy for building a winner
CRA replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Hurndawg was great at keeping his guys. And overpaying them to various degrees. -
only thing I can think of in regards to the kicker….is maybe he is an intended PS stash for covid? he is one of those rare guys who punts and kicks. So if our P or K had a covid issue they have one guy they could insert either way for a week.
-
is he a well regarded kicker? last time he kicked was 2015 in college…and they took him off FGs because he wasn’t good. Sounds like something still needs to be done. But pie coming your way for the opening analogy. You right there lol
-
Maybe. He might be the only kicker that can hang in the weight room with Slye.
-
More I look at this kicker….the more I think it is just a motivational ploy and Slye is the guy. new kicker has never made a NFL FG. Last kick he made was back in 2015….where he had a worse FG % in college than Syle does in the pros. And Syle has circus kicks impacting his %.
-
I wish we would get away from bringing in so many Temple/Baylor guys though. Probably got close to a dozen of them right now.
-
wonder if there is a stat that shows avg starting field position after kickoffs? Would be interesting to see that. Outcome of TBs vs those tempting fate
-
He has never made a FG and has a 52% TB rate on kickoffs. Joey Syle is a meh FG kicker with a 90% TB rate on kickoffs. Hard to call him an upgrade. I mean he could be in the FG department. Nothing really there to make the case yet though.
-
and who would kick field goals? Seems kinda backwards. You only need a kickoff specialist if your FG kicker is weak legged.
-
I think if Mahomes didn't have such freak playmakers....his gunslinger mentality would lead to a much higher INT%. Watch Trevor Lawerence's numbers with the Jags this year. He will have a lot of picks. It's in his DNA to put the ball up for someone to make a play. In college he could read a D and thread a needle. But from day 1 he would always say fug it and just put one up there. The key is actually pairing them with talent that can make a play out of something when the do what they just can't help but do.
-
We got a DBO sign now. It fixes stuff like that.
-
I don't know, I have always argued some stuff is just player DNA. It's like when we signed Teddy. Being a check down player was just in his DNA. You might can coach out a throw here or there. But his DNA was to checkdown. No one was going to change that IMO You could tell Jake Delhomme to play it safe. He might for a minute. But eventually he was going to see 89 in double coverage and just let it fly. But for the record, I don't really have a problem with harnessed hero ball. It's frankly, fun to watch.

Oh, just a FYI, I looked up the practice squad stuff the other day because of the backup QB talk. Plenty of room to stash either. Both would qualify. I had questioned if they both were eligible. Expansion of practice squads to 16 players, including up to six who have more than two accrued seasons. The ability to protect up to four practice squad players per week from being signed by other teams I am still a fan of adding a older vet and basically telling him, your job is to simply be a good voice in the film room. PJ and Will don't really offer much to our Sam Experiment.

just had the picks mixed up and didn't know the kicker pick was conditional. Just got a break and was speed surfing through.
-
gotcha. My brain had the picks switched. And someone said the kicker trade was conditional too. So we are up still.
