  1. Maybe. He might be the only kicker that can hang in the weight room with Slye.
  2. More I look at this kicker….the more I think it is just a motivational ploy and Slye is the guy. new kicker has never made a NFL FG. Last kick he made was back in 2015….where he had a worse FG % in college than Syle does in the pros. And Syle has circus kicks impacting his %.
  3. I wish we would get away from bringing in so many Temple/Baylor guys though. Probably got close to a dozen of them right now.
  4. wonder if there is a stat that shows avg starting field position after kickoffs? Would be interesting to see that. Outcome of TBs vs those tempting fate
  5. He has never made a FG and has a 52% TB rate on kickoffs. Joey Syle is a meh FG kicker with a 90% TB rate on kickoffs. Hard to call him an upgrade. I mean he could be in the FG department. Nothing really there to make the case yet though.
  6. and who would kick field goals? Seems kinda backwards. You only need a kickoff specialist if your FG kicker is weak legged.
  7. I think if Mahomes didn't have such freak playmakers....his gunslinger mentality would lead to a much higher INT%. Watch Trevor Lawerence's numbers with the Jags this year. He will have a lot of picks. It's in his DNA to put the ball up for someone to make a play. In college he could read a D and thread a needle. But from day 1 he would always say fug it and just put one up there. The key is actually pairing them with talent that can make a play out of something when the do what they just can't help but do.
  8. We got a DBO sign now. It fixes stuff like that.
  9. I don't know, I have always argued some stuff is just player DNA. It's like when we signed Teddy. Being a check down player was just in his DNA. You might can coach out a throw here or there. But his DNA was to checkdown. No one was going to change that IMO You could tell Jake Delhomme to play it safe. He might for a minute. But eventually he was going to see 89 in double coverage and just let it fly. But for the record, I don't really have a problem with harnessed hero ball. It's frankly, fun to watch.
  10. Oh, just a FYI, I looked up the practice squad stuff the other day because of the backup QB talk. Plenty of room to stash either. Both would qualify. I had questioned if they both were eligible. Expansion of practice squads to 16 players, including up to six who have more than two accrued seasons. The ability to protect up to four practice squad players per week from being signed by other teams I am still a fan of adding a older vet and basically telling him, your job is to simply be a good voice in the film room. PJ and Will don't really offer much to our Sam Experiment.
  11. just had the picks mixed up and didn't know the kicker pick was conditional. Just got a break and was speed surfing through.
  12. gotcha. My brain had the picks switched. And someone said the kicker trade was conditional too. So we are up still.
  13. a conditional 7th? I missed that part to it then.
  14. so we essentially traded Perryman and a 6th for a bad kicker? That about right?
  15. what it really sounds like isSam Darnold is new to the offense and also historically not very good to date. And the Panthers plan is to just have him safely check down and not ask much of him for awhile as they continue to work in their project. Reports have been pretty consistent that he has been just checking down in camp and playing it safe overall. Probably because he is being told to do that. But that isn't ideal. That is simply what you do with someone who you don't believe can or should have the O wide open IMO. it was clear Joe Brady ripped of the Sean Payton model and took it to LSU....and the risky deep shots are just as much part of the offense as the short yardage game. I think we are going to see a heavy CMC start to the season and a lot of small ball by design.
  16. Yeah, Joe Brady and Sean Payton don’t employ the dink and dink mindset. At least not in NO historically (Payton/Brees in their prime) and LSU’s record year. they suck you in for the purpose of hitting you deep. The downfield ball being a key component. A complete and balanced pass attack.
  17. Whoa! Pump your breaks. Did you just suggest that Matt Rhule just stands up in front of the press and slings bullshit and isn’t always honest to the reporters? because you would be right It was just yesterday he went into detail about the exact new freak injury that came out of nowhere that kept him off the field lol. and I have no problem with Rhule slinging nonsense. Its just a reminder to those that think everything he utters is indisputable truth…that he is a NFL coach.
  18. I have never really heard Jets fans complain that he would lock onto WRs. Generally the knock was his decision making. Which is I why I have always consider his ceiling being a version of Jake Delhomme - minus the early career moxie Jake had that Tommy Jone took. Obviously a better athlete though.
  19. Heck, at this point I don't think Rhule should even bother playing the starters. Our starters vs the guys the Steelers are going to sit on the bench or cut for a half? I think the fringe guys with nothing lose and everything to gain are the most dangerous. They are the least sound players and more likely to do something stupid and get someone hurt. Seems like a pointless risk/exposure. Obviously, all reps have injury exposure. But if you aren't even going to rep them against comparable talent.....it gets harder to justify exposing them IMO. I mean, I have seen coaches punish starters in preseason by keeping them in for an extra series to go against backups after disappointing. But just playing a half vs backups would be some weird stuff. Just a weird preseason. Reporter asked him today about the talent/competition disparity today and how he could actually get what he claimed he wanted with it. He gave a non-answer. As coaches do.
  20. He was a free agent, they gave up nothing. Bills did a 1 year deal for 2M.
  21. we need one of those community tryouts like in that Marky Mark movie.
  22. JJ immediately after the draft...
  23. if they aren't even risking their 2nd string QB....I would imagine you will see the bottom of the Steelers depth chart from start to finish.
