Keep in mind, Luke's TC experience this year featured him peering over shrubs.

No wonder Luke goes around wearing Buffalo Bills gear and parading around at their practice. Rhule/Tepper can't even get my guy some VIP seats in Charlotte.

Lot of teams are morphing away from just having an exclusive QB Coach. You see a lot of combos of OC/QB, Pass Game Coordiantor/QB, etc. Lot of QBs don't have an exclusive QB Coach listed on a roster anymore. Seeing an OC or Passing Game Coordinator also be the QB Coach isn't something Gase thought up just for Sam Darnold.
-
nope, the Jets had the same structure under Bowles and then Gase that NE and other teams opt for. He had the combo. He also had a personal coach in the offseason. I just feel the manner in how it is slung around in conversation can be a a bit dishonest.
-
I'm not sure the narrative of Sam Darnold has never had a QB coach is really that accurate. Especially how it is being used. That's like saying Mac Jones doesn't have a QB coach and is being setup to fail.

I like the story Pat McAfee talks about holding. When he got drafted he told the Colts he held kicks. He had never done it. Apparently, they didn't bother checking on if the punter actually did it. He showed up told the HOF kicker he had no clue. Vinatari sent him to school to learn so that he wouldn't fug up his legacy.

I'm sure some young K will be cut. I'd rather just bring in a young kid with potential and try them out. It could potentially solve our problem. An old vet is just a bandaid. An we can afford to try a guy out given winning now isn't our primary objective. Just look at our P. We picked that kid up off the street. He has been great.

Perspective, Directive, and Erective - The Panthers offensive woes and you
CRA replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Probably because he is a TE out of Temple....and had no business being put in that position to begin with. Prime opportunity to rep Tremble there. To see if they could get away with not having a true FB. -

the OL didn't look good but you are right, the play came down to the TE/FB putting a body on one man. If he did it....it was a touchdown. He barely chipped his guy and he blew the play up. -
That is what happens when you have a legit superstar. Cam is the only one Carolina has actually seen.
-
Burrow is a legit injury concern Carr is a multi time Pro Bowler Goff is a multi time Pro Bowler Baker is coming off a playoff season. I don’t consider them Sam Darnold comps. but I’ll give you Daniel Jones. He isn’t getting reps. And his team has averaged 4 wins a season. And Giants haven’t had a winning season closing in on a half decade.
-
Good point about the pay factoring. You instantly become one of the highest paid NFL coaches….it impacts expectations.

Rhule came in and handled the Cam thing poorly. That basically ended his chance of a normal honeymoon window IMO. not saying Cam had to be his guy either. It was a hard spot to be in, no doubt. But came off very Gettlemen-ish IMO. and so he is getting the treatment any standard coach gets as a result IMO.
-
Yeah, I don’t take issue with any of that. But then the FO should just have to own the reality. Sam is essentially getting heat that is really FO heat. I’m deemed a Sam hater. But I lobbied for him before he was linked to Carolina. Seemed like a decent enough lotto ticket to bring in and tinker with. FO office made the low odd project…the only option and even passed on high valued QB prospects that fell in their lap. Which doesn’t happen often. The issue isn’t the FO coddling him. He probably needs it . Because he probably shouldn’t be the dude this year. Nor the only option.
-
Well, nothing. That’s just about it. It is what it is. There isn’t much to say about it once it is acknowledged.
-
and the OL likely needs the reps more than Darnold. But Darnold needs to be back there to see how and who hold ups. The whole chemistry aspect. Not only does Darnold wear red in practice, they restrict how defenders can attack the OL
-
just to be snarky… the main value of preseason games is for them to make money off of us. which means I will complain about the crappy entertainment lol
-
Who is they though? because I feel confident the offensive staff has not co-signed every pick the past two draft classes. I doubt they are like, yeah, just keep going defense. That seems like the better call over anything else you could do. I don’t doubt Rhule and the new GM preferred to take a DB though over Fields. One has never been dependent on or seen good QB play as a HC….and the other is from the LOB era. It’s why I thought they would pick Horn in the end.
-
It’s about as ridiculous as his reasoning for passing on Fields. Well, a busted QB + Horn = 2. 2 > 1. It’s just math guys. but I’m still searching for the NFL coach who is bitching about having too much talent at QB and how it set them back in their rebuild. Imagine if he ended up with two good QBs. We would never recover from that.
-
I don’t think Bill Belichick understands football as well as you then… He had joint practices this week. and then he played his starters for multiple series. Because his team is no longer proven on O at the QB spot going into this season. Reps are needed.
-
I don’t find preseason reps all that useful for everyone. CMC? Nope. Even a Shaq type player. Not really. I think OL is a big one though. If you got questions there. OL is too chemistry and rep oriented IMO. QB just goes hand in hand with that. I think that is why you see Big Ben and Mahomes out there this preseason. Think they have some things on the OL they want worked on. and I think there is value in all rookies getting them. Especially if you are going to ask them to start. Learning curve from college to pros. Horn IMO could use them.
-
I don’t think it benefits a coach to be honest. That isn’t my argument. I largely bring it up when someone wants to quote a coach and what he says…..as the end all truth on a topic/debate. They aren’t honest about things. It doesn’t benefit them to be.
-
I am no Sam fan. But I think if he remains Sam….we can get to 7ish wins. Which isn’t great position for your standard draft if you need a top QB prospect. A healthy CMC is worth a couple wins. If we had him last season we win more than 5 IMO.
