not sure that is all on him. WR stopped on what was suppose to be a quick hitter. regardless, that play doesn’t change the fact he has shown a lot more than our stable of backups.
-
Heinicke has a little magic to him. Looked promising in the playoffs last year….probably should of kept him around instead of Grier and company

I agree. That is a ball a QB is forced to throw because it is a practice rep. There was no play. They basically have to throw the pick.

But we know their scheme isn't a checkdown offense. That's not what Payton does and it's now what got Joe Brady the job here. So to me, that points elsewhere. Likely, we employed a checkdown and broken QB or....Matt Rhule actually prefers and asks for conservative O because he wants to play to his defense (and that is what every successful Matt Rhule team has done).

Did he have a good rushing game against the Saints? he found the endzone but his high is 64 yards and that was at 2 yards a clip.

There was actually a lot of recent talk about his clean pocket play and red zone play. https://www.google.com/amp/s/pantherswire.usatoday.com/2021/07/19/panthers-sam-darnold-red-zone-clean-pocket-numbers-troubling/amp/ so I guess you could tin foil hat it that our horrific OL play is 4D chess by the staff. But that still leaves the red zone. I think the pressure that has gotten same in the past is more situational….where he felt the QB had to make the play.

NFL teams are ran more comparable to mom and pop shops than fortune 500 companies.

it’s not much damage control…. it’s like….oh sorry about that. Since you are crying we will give it to you for one game in order for you to officially say your goodbye to it.

Best players play? Period? This is football we are talking about. The best players don’t always play. That broad statement certainly isn’t true. we know there are plenty of football coaches are flawed, biased, and dumb quite often. I mean every coach and gm we have had to date did dumb stuff…..but this time it’s TOTALLY different? Odds don’t favor that. Everyone does dumb things at times. Football coaches certainly aren’t excluded from that…..just like no one in another profession is. Name any job on any level…and you can find someone doing something dumb. Are fans right on this example? Don’t know. Garbage man to POTUS. Everyone does dumb stuff from time to time blinded by their own biases and being so close to it. Which you see a fair amount in sports IMO.

I'm going to go with the Saints. Just can't bet on Carolina after the OL performance we saw last week in a divisional matchup right now. They are going to need to move some bodies around on the OL and find something that works better and it doesn't sound like Rhule is there yet. Plus, historically, CMC doesn't run well vs Sean Payton and the Saints. Career high is only 64 rushing yards. I don't have a score prediction. Just don't see our OL being there yet for a game like this.

he was an assistant OL coach for one season. but I don't think that earned him the narrative as an OL expert. I have never heard it at least. He has a random coaching year basically everywhere on O or D. Resume always read like a jack of all trades type guy from a positional perspective. Which makes sense if your goal is HC.
-
I've never heard that narrative with Rhule.
-
this isn't like Ron. Ron once caught heat for punting on the opponents 35 because he felt being conservative was more important than points. This is something totally different and new.
-
watch Rhule cut him lol. I don't put any stock into what Rhule says about anything

I heard David Tepper was going to start selling KFC at the stadium next. Baby stepping.

He was close to being the Jets HC when they brought in Gase NFL is a better gig if you can get it then college. Better pay for less work.

Thomas Davis on Good Morning Football + the Tie Debacle is settled!
CRA replied to EgoDogg's topic in Carolina Panthers
moving on from 89 was the right call. Just handled poorly. and poorly is how Gettlemen dealt with humans. -
I'm cool with feeding CMC. But it is conditional. I want the contract he is on to be his last in Carolina. And that probably holds true if we over feed him or not.

sure it is. It’s commonly talked about in football/sports. Players being set up to fail within an organization. Which in that context, literal intentional sabatoge of the player is not what is implied. and you can find more posts, articles, etc than one would care to read about Sam Darnold being setup to fail in NY.
-
Sam Darnold couldn’t do it. Year after year after year. or are you going to tell be how Jets set him up to fail and all he needs is a new coach to work out and fix all the issues the last franchise helped create? Because the talent is all there. and I’m talking about Joey Slye the kicker. But all you see is someone might be slighting the golden child Matt Rhule in the process of talking about what could of happened with Syle…..
-
You have the ability to choose how you want interpret anything you read on the internet. And some are way too over protective of Matt Rhule. I simply think in hindsight, with a kicker that got in his own head…..we probably shouldn’t of kept asking Joey to do the impossible so routinely. Throw the Hail Mary. It has better odds. We treated Joey as the best odds. In the end you got a kicker taking the L….because you gotta think every time Syle believed he should of made it.
-
Coaches set guys up to fail all the time. I didn’t say it was intentional and they planned it out that way. Was Darnold set up to fail by NY? Was it deliberate? We continuously asked Joey Slye to go make 65+ kicks to win and tie games. I doubt that trotting him out there to miss helped him….especially now in hindsight. You see more Hail Marys actually work than you do 65+ yarders go down. See plenty Hail Marys work every season. But we deemed Syle the best option. Eventually those don’t just become for shits and giggles when your team keeps going to you…to win/tie it late.
-
They still count as misses. and like I said if you consistently keep asking him to make circus kicks to win games or tie them late (which we did both) …..I would think there begins to be an expectation that he will then make some of them that starts to sink in. Kicking is a head game. I don’t mind the rare circus kick for fun. I think we started doing it too much.
