Bridgewater(2020) vs. Darnold(2021) through 6 games.
CRA replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
What's the point? Well, to an extent it is just rearranging the chairs on the Titanic. and again, no one is claiming PJ Walker is the answer here. I guess the real point of inserting him...would just be officially ending the delusion that Sam Darnold potentially is. And it would force us to address QB again. Instead of risking the odds of rolling into another season with Sam starting for us. So to me it isn't about PJ at all. It's about forcing this team off Sam and not letting the mistake continue into next year. and if we lose the next 2 I will officially hold that position. Probably even if we go 1-1 over the next two games. Sam is what he is. He is a backup QB and I think there are backups in the NFL who might be better than him. -

If a D gives up zero points in the NFL….the O is part of that equation. point remains, PJ is more a lateral move than anything. He isn’t going to tank us vs trotting Sam out there. Sam isn’t in some wildly different tier. PJ completed 70% of his passes and would have been near 80% of his passes if not for drops. It’s was a decent debut game. Did he have two bad throws in the red zone? Yeah, but our starter outed the team as not even letting him get the reps needed there. And one of the playcalls on one was horrific for a guy making his first NFL start. again, I am not under the illusion PJ is anything more than a backup. But that’s is what Sam is. That’s the point. And PJ isn’t Jimmy Clausen. He doesn’t implode your ability to compete vs what else we have trotted out there in recent years. Because none of them should be starting. It’s a lateral move at the end of the day. if Sam had a PJ Lions game….the Sam fanboys would be peacocking around and using it as an example that Sam can play. Joe Brady just bashed for those horrible redzone calls...and all the attention on everything minus 2 throws. I mean, Sam was praised for the Jets game, in case there is any doubt. -
Yes, but you don’t go from horrible and rebuild mode to magically being contenders. You build into being a good football team inbetween that. And this staff isn’t on pace to even start addressing the OL/QB until year 3. Which again, takes time. It’s a poor schedule/plan.

Yet you could of always said they same thing about Sam though… thats the rub. Going to PJ isn’t actually a tank move. It’s more of a lateral move. There is a reason we skunked the Lions 20-0. We have played a lot of bad teams of late….and yet never pulled off a game like that. PJ isn’t going to come in and prevent us from having a shot at any team we wouldn’t have with Sam. Ever since Cam’s injury…every QB is of the same tier we have watched play here. Different strengths and weaknesses. But all the same tier. Draft status years ago….is being used to argue somehow Sam is different. -
I don’t think it takes 3 years to put together a good football team in the NFL….if you hire the right people. now to be be legit contenders? Yes. It takes time. we should IMO look better than we do overall on offense. We are have done a poor job IMO when it comes to the most important aspects of building a team. OL and QB. And you have to start there day 1. At the current pace and we just going to start addressing it in year 3. That’s a poor plan.

That’s what he did to DJ to open up the came. Was throwing him into the S. and then you end up with WRs knowing Sam isn’t good enough to protect them. Which is what Tom Brady talks about. Darnold didn’t have a good game and he was a contributing factor in some for the drops. Not all. But clearly some. Especially 2 of DJ’s.

I mean, they weren't crippling INTs. We won 20-0. PJ and the offense moved up and down the field with ease. The INTs were both redzone INTs. Something the team apparently wasn't even practicing with their starters much. Let alone their backup QB. -
Are the 2021 Carolina Panthers worse than the 2020 Carolina Panthers?
CRA replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
well, that's not true. Teddy processes things quicker. It's why he can get the ball out so quick and efficiently. He also throws a better ball in terms of placement for a receiver. Most importantly, Teddy has better ball security and doesn't make as many bonehead throws ( the two primary knocks of Sam that have existed everywhere he has been). Teddy is simply risk adverse to a fault. -
If we lose to the Giants and Falcons it is over. Regardless of records, the Vikings were the second best team we have played this year.

I think Hubbard’s speed is fine. I think his lower body needs more muscle. I remember CMC struggling with first contact as a rookie. He would go down pretty easily too in the backfield. Came back year 2 bigger and could shake that first contact. That’s seems to be Hubbard’s biggest weakness a runner right now. He can’t get away from that first contact yet…and the OL just isn’t good enough to stop that from being a regular occurrence at or behind the line.

Sam’s best play on Sunday was that long run in the 4th. Given the OL inefficiencies. I think we should run Sam more. Probably should work Shi and DJ in a little with some end arounds, pop passes, etc. but I don’t like Sam’s natural tendency of holding the ball while he runs. He one hands it and leaves it hanging out there too much . Needs to tuck it in sooner for my liking.

Panthers WRs had the 6th most catchable drops by a team the last decade
CRA replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
and I’ll defend DJ Moore pretty quick. He is now my favorite player on O. It is what it is. But yeah, it’s no secret I had issues coming in this season about Rhule, Sam being THE plan and paying Robby. And that all factors in how I watch a game. So I don’t pretend then I am unbiased when they come up…especially when the chips are down. -

I assure you I am not blind. but I have never claimed to be unbiased. Sam and Robby catch heat from me pretty easy. As does Rhule. I am self aware of that. -

All of them? Nope. Do I think the balls he threw were a contributing factor on some. Yes. Probably 3 of them. And I often applied a similar concept when it came to Cam. Who is tied for my favorite Panther of all time. -

Who’s the best head coach in Carolina Panthers history?
CRA replied to Carl Spackler's topic in Carolina Panthers
Splitting hairs. But I have Ron on top just because I think he was the best human of the lot. It’s probably a tie in reality of Fox and Rivera. Then Capers. Rhule and Seifert presently battling over pecking order. Not fair to really even mention Rhule though -

you don’t think Sam deserves some blame? -

You got an issue with how DJ Moore is playing on the year? I don’t. And he isn’t going to catch every ball all season. That’s life. DJ isn’t letting Sam down. fire away at Robby. The two aren’t the same and I am not going to treat them as the same. Robby is a liability at this point and should have his reps reduced until he can prove he deserves them again. -

opening drive? I’d rather him not throw his stud WR into a massive hit and look elsewhere. Again, it’s not a one man route. That’s why there are 4 quarters to a game. QBs have to manage risks. and I am a fan of DJ Moore. I want him on the field. So yeah, I want the QB taking care of him and mitigating the damage/risks he gets thrown into. -

Seen 89 get his arm broken thrown into a defender like that too. But at least that was late in the game for a TD. did you see the clip of Brady talking about QBs throwing guys into hits? I mean, you think the GOAT is just soft? His entire argument is he wants people to be allowed to hit again but too many QBs put WRs at risk and throw them into hits. Tom Brady literally blames bad QB play for why the league has gotten soft on hits and flags everything. League is forced to protect guys because of bad QB play. I think the GOAT has a point. His argument is the the league should just let teams who throw there guys into big hits deal with the consequences. -

so what is a 50/50 ball? Catchable or uncatchable? my understanding was it is deemed a catchable ball. Who wins wouldn’t determine if the ball is catchable would it? I mean the WRs didn’t have good day. No doubt. They didn’t do him any favors. They need to make some of those. I just don’t think Sam had a very good day either despite that. and specifically Robby. I can cut DJ a little slack given how well he has played on the year and the load he is carrying in the pass game.
