tanking is done by a front office in the offseason. players don't tank. They want jobs. Their film matters even on a losing team.

Panthers WRs had the 6th most catchable drops by a team the last decade
CRA replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, I mean, I no longer want Watson but.... Watson is magical even behind a bad OL. Not consistent but he is still special behind at weak OL. We have already seen that in college and the pros. Those Bama/Clemson games weren't even close in terms of those OLs/DLs matching up. Bama on a different planet. That was all QB play. And his line when he got to Houston was terrible. You can put a special QB behind a weak OL. See Cam also. You can put a weak QB behind a good OL. You can't pair a bad OL and a weak QB. That's been the Rhule way for 2 straight years. -
yeah, it boggles my mind that people think an OC is suppose to be able to successfully scheme around a horrible OL and weak QB paired together with any type of consistency. Basic plays are not even available. 4th and 1 and Joe Brady is forced to be creative. He can't just call a run. The OL is too weak. NFL is a talent driven league. You give a coordinator slop on the line he is going to struggle. You then double down and put slop behind the line? They are doomed. We got Sean McDermott because the Eagles scapegoated him. The Eagles got rid of their defensive talent. So they sucked. McDermott took the blame. He wasn't a bad DC. Football gods demand a sacrifice. He wasn't bad but you can't scheme around not having basic talent. And when you gave him talent on the line? Well, we saw the result of that. It's how you go from horrible to awesome. I still don't see how you can give Joe Brady this OL and then think it is a play calling problem. He is forced into creative smoke and mirrors at all times. You are going to look bad when your talent forces creativity to get a yard. and Brady might be horrible. He might be great. Odds are he likely gets scrapegoated before we every find out the truth on that though.

yeah, but remember this preseason when we attempted to see if our starters could line up and run when the other team knew it was coming? They got destroyed. we don't have the bodies to run into a defense that knows it is coming. Maybe the best RB in football can pull some magic but outside of that it seems like a horrible idea. our rushing TDs in the redzone are a byproduct this year of Joe Brady already scheming around the fact that we can't lineup and run at teams when they know it is coming. It why he started running Sam so heavy. Because we can't line up and just run it at teams.

you are projecting that all catchable balls are caught though. That doesn’t happen in the NFL. If only 60% are catchable, a NFL QB is just just going to have a percentage of those caught. it’s basically a guarantee that he will have a low completion percentage. -
Rhule has never impressed me. His college resume IMO was never as strong as it was pimped. He won one conference title. That’s his resume. Vs the field of other college to pro coaches that is weak. and at least to me, he doesn’t inspire confidence when he talks. He speed talks a word salad of bullshit. Always seem jittery and unsure. goes back to the preseason where he essentially bragged about letting other coaches set everything up and dictate what they wanted to get out of practice. Rhule is less impressive than Rivera or Fox to me. And that’s not high praise of Rivera and Fox.

This upcoming year doesn’t seem to be the year you would want to feel forced to find a potential franchise QB…

How extensively will the offense need to be rebuilt this off-season?
CRA replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
absolutely. If a QB is horrible starting QB for 4 consecutive years. It would be foolish to make it 5. That becomes the definition of insanity. He is a backup QB. No shame in that. -
the most important part of the O is void of talent. The OL and QB. And then we pair them together. It isn't complicated. Is Joe Brady a genius? I doubt it. We probably won't know what he is. Because he has been handicapped from basics from the jump...because every game he has ever called has been trying to scheme around horrific OL talent paired with weak QB play. And he is a brand new OC learning. Hard to hire someone super green....and then put them in a hole like that from the jump. Joe Brady is a scapegoat. You start at the top. That's who is responsible. Matt Rhule and the GM(s) he was been with.
-
yeah, totally can't be talent. I mean, we had a bad OL coming into the year. Now we got Michael Jordan comes in and takes 89% of the snaps on Sunday. You just have to play call around the LT. And the LG. And the C. Oh, the RG too. Oh and the fact the worst starting QB in the NFL over the past couples seasons is now running the show behind all of that. What happened yesterday is on the HC and the GM. For putting this OL/QB combo together and thinking there was another possible outcome than what we are seeing.

One game. Moore has been an absolute beast on the year. Hard to describe him this year as anything other than that. and Sam opened up that game throwing DJ a hospital ball on his first pass. I don't fault DJ for not catching that. That a business decision. And the right one IMO. You can't throw hospital balls that early in a game. I mentioned this earlier, but Tom Brady has spoken out on that. It's called horrible QB play. And Brady has said it hasn't been called for what it is. The byproduct is the league over officiates games and is ruining it...because too many QBs set guys up to get hurt. Robby I get. Bash away. He has been horrible. DJ? Great. Basically the entire TE committee has been solid. Thomas has looked good this year. Tremble has looked good this year. Arnold looked good when we had him. CMC a stud on when on the field. All the rookies from Marshall to Chubba have played solid when called upon IMO. Robby's stink shouldn't be cast on everyone else. They should bench him IMO.
-
Robby Anderson has been horrible. On the year, his collective receiving options have not been horrible. Just one guy. but as noted this offseason, Sam has always had a poor rate of success when throwing at Robby. Dates back to NY. It has never been a good connection (despite what the rare deep ball highlight might suggest).

No, I am not blaming Joe Brady for everything. A difference. I accepted bringing in Joe Brady. Which was someone who had never been an OC before. Which means he was going to have to grow into the position. And I have routinely pointed out where Joe Brady needs to get better at. But the fact remains, if you give anyone a horrible OL and pair it with a horrible QB in the NFL....the OC will look bad and routinely fail. It's the whole two things can be true aspect. Joe Brady needs to grow as an OC. Which shouldn't be a surprise. But we have given him slop. Which means it is going to prevent us from really being able to evaluate him and his growth. Because again, a great OC.....with this OL paired with Darnold. It's the NFL. Firing Joe Brady does absolutely nothing. Because the OL and Sam are here.
-
why? why would you give him one more season? he has proven he he is over and over and over again. From USC to Carolina.
-
Joe Brady didn't pick Sam Darnold. He was just given this slop. He didn't pick the OL. Rhule has already told us how Sam Darnold got here. It was Phil Snow and Rhule that cooked up that great idea. Two dudes have who never had good QB play on any team they have ever been associated with.
-
Sam Darnold came here ruined. That's not Joe Brady's fault. We have given Brady slop and then complained that he can't turn water into wine. The QB and OL are horrible. Name a great OC....and he would look horrible with that OL/QB pairing. NFL is a talent driven league. Coaches overall are a just a product of the talent IMO at this level.

Are the 2021 Carolina Panthers worse than the 2020 Carolina Panthers?
CRA replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
QB is the most important position on the field. And Sam Darnold is worse than Teddy. So for that reason, we are worse. Clone the teams and pit a Darnold lead version vs a Teddy one. I'm taking Teddy in a 2 out of 3 series. -
Sam Darnold is on pace to set career highs for INTs and fumbles (not fumbles lost though). at the current pace, Sam's best season in NY....will be statistically better than his season in Carolina. And all he should get is a season here. Nothing else.
-
Yeah, you can’t defend yourself. That’s why it’s called setting him up to be murdered. maybe you hang a WR out to dry with the game on the line. Not the opening drive. But maybe Tom Brady is an idiot and doesn’t know what he is talking about. He calls it trash QB play for whatever that is worth.
-
It’s the pairing of a bad QB with a bad OL that is tanking this team. Can’t pair that up. One has to be okay.
-
To date, Teddy has always been a better NFL QB than Darnold they are just different in terms of why each isn’t very good. But yeah, Teddy is slightly better. Has always been so.
-
DJ first drop was business decision that I don’t blame him for. Sam set up our best WR to be murdered. the exact reason Tom Brady argued the NFL is now over officiated. QBs making poor throws that get guys murdered too often. You can’t throw those.
