  1. So then Sam is a better QB than Dak. That is what that would mean.
  2. None of these guys meet the criteria being discussed, none of those guys busted out horrifically as staters in the NFL and then immediately were made the man elsewhere. Plenty of people have failed....and then worked to get better, fix their game and THEN got second chances in the NFL. Favre had 4 pass attempts in his career and never started a game with his first team, Young went sat for years and years behind a HOF QB before being given chance #2, Jake and Kurt both went overseas before being able to earn a chance and were never 1st round busts to begin with.
  3. David Carr was at least brought in as a backup QB with the thought of working on him behind the scenes to see if he could be fixed. Injury thrust him into the lineup. I mean literally no one has ever taken a complete bust and failure and immediate made him the guy willingly like Rhule did.
  4. A lot of time what Sam is staring down.....isn't actually the primary read though. The defense actually dicatates often what the read primary read becomes. Or it should in theory when your QB isn't Darnold. That is what the ex-QBs have been pointing out Darnold does so poorly. Just becaue Darnold locks onto someone right away, that doesn't mean that is where the play actually sets up and he is suppose to be looking.
  5. Mahomes and Reid keep slanting more and more to Mahomes playing hero ball. That's KC's biggest problem IMO. Reid's willingness to have the offense turn into the Mahomes haymaker show.
  6. I'd rather have Brown given we got Chinn. Simmons and Chinn are both swiss army knives. Brown + Chinn most likely > Simmons + whatever we woud of done.
  7. I mean, we overpaid. That said, he has talent. I wouldn't cut him. I'd see how he pairs with whoever you have at QB next year. But he isn't going to live up to that deal. But he needs a QB to throw him into space and not have him battling for balls. and Robby could have some legit stuff going on that we don't know about. So there is always that. Remember, he was the only one that didn't show to the non-mandatory stuff this offseason. There was always a weird vibe coming in this year. Super hero football players are just people. So he could have stuff going on this year and just not be there mentally. Which, that is life sometimes. The fact he is worse than NYJ Robby just makes no sense on face value.
  8. If Robby does what he does this week I would bench him. Marshall should be back by then. Promote Willie Snead and run with DJ, Marshall, Shi and Snead. Snead isn't great but he can catch a ball and run the right route... and is savy enough to use in a small role if need to limit the rookie loads.
  9. I guess my arguement essentially was....given his business background he wouldn't be so focused on the 3 million a year he is eating on the contract....if he believes Rhule is ultimately costing him 10s of millions a year. COVID already had his revenues down about 100 million last season. Tepper is a big money guy. I don't think Rhule is out the door today. But if the current tragectory of this season doesn't change and plays out as is? I think that could be on the table to get rid of him. Tepper IMO can't just be patient for 7 years and suck...it will cost him too much money. It will cost him big Panther revenue. And if his rep becomes of being a poo owner I think that preception would impact the soccer excitement too. No one is going to believe he can build team 2 if he can't do anything with team 1. Rhule has to find a way to win. CMC coming back will help but he has a massive OL/QB problem and not too many weak opponents left. Given we got an extra game, Rhule needs to a way to climb to at least 6 wins this year. Bare bones.
  10. the arguement wasn't Dabo should be a NFL coach. Dabo is 100% a college coach. my point was only IF you are going to hire a college coach (which I don't endorse)....someone like Dabo makes the most sense to go to the NFL. Specfically because of how Dabo has achieved his success. Clemson's rise has been built around the elite QB. Dabo's little Clemson dynasty follows the blueprint on the field of how NFL teams have real success. Dabo knows for him to win, QB is really the end all be all. Which is NFL football. A Dabo type isn't going to think Teddy or Darnold paired with his ability would get it done. and you can out talent your opponents. That is literally how Clemson's dynasty came about. And it's how the NE one, Seattle one, etc all came about too. You can out talent people at one position. That's the game. Clemson's overall rosters during this run haven't even been in the ballpark with the Alabamas, Ohio States, Georgias. Clemson just had it where it matters. Which is all the NFL is.
  11. I dropped Robby in my money league last week.
  12. Robby had a 53% catch rate his two years in NY with Sam. Better than this season, but the connection was always poor with a random deep mixed in that we saw on sportscenter
  13. Tepper has a lot of folks in the Charlotte area he needs to keep happy and excited about sports. Especially with soccer coming too.
  14. We don't know that. Sam was prepped to start all camp and is a 4 year vet. Chicago prepped Dalton all camp and then threw Fields into a Dalton offense as rookie. Gotta give Fields a little time. We have seen lots of rookies be disaters out of the gate and get settled in. Fields might end up sucking. Way too early to chalk passing on him or Mac as good moves though.
  15. we've also lost some pretty good beat writers the last several years too. Jones, Jordan, etc. Panthers have acquired some like Gantt, Voth, etc.
  16. I'm not a fan of the college route, but I would have more faith rolling the dice on a Dabo type. And by that, it's just about looking at how he has seen his success. Dabo at least understands one thing, his success has always been tied to and has been QB centric. QB play is the puzzle solver for problems. A lot of college football, especially lower conference play...isn't about that. Rhule might can build an overall decent football team. But he never put the type team together in college that is almost required to win in the pros.
  17. Tepper isn't stuck with Rhule. He can still eat his contract. Especially if this shitshow starts to drag down revenues in a big way. and while these contracts are all guaranteed, they also have offset clauses. So if you fire him and he goes to coach at Penn St for example. You aren't paying him the full amount. Just the difference.
  18. Hey, at least Clemson/USC will be entertaining this year. I mean, it will be an ugly trainwreck but will finally be a game. 6-3 in OT, Tigers.
  19. I think it's largely having the talent to execute things properly and whose has the better talent when doing such. I mean, the entire time Luke was here he knew the majority of the plays coming at him and positioned our D favorably for it. NFL is more about talent lining up beating people and executing....than fooling them IMO. Opponents are largely going to know what the other is doing.
  20. I think you get less emotionally attached as you get older. I do enjoy a good exciting football game though. I'd rather watch a legit random exciting game (whether that is big plays or some storyline/narrative that makes it cool)....than just watch the Panthers squeak out a random win that doesn't really mean anything.
  21. Carolina football has been pretty boring for some time now. The entire Rhule era has been a snooze fest and so was the end of Ron's. That is what happens when your team is built around a RB in today's NFL.
  22. 1 INT, 1 fumble. 2 turnovers. Sam has been so busy showing his struggles as a passer of late some have forgetton how much he fumbles. I think he is due to remind folks of that.
  23. reality is, that largely is the NFL. Coaches that don't have good QBs generally look bad. Comes down to finding a QB how far they can take you. Pete Carroll was talking this week about what his career would have looked like if he didn't have Russell Wilson. His answer? He probably wouldn't of lasted in the NFL long. Which is why if you don't have a QB. That should be priority one. We should of been adding bodies and buying lottery tickets the moment Rhule walked in the door. Draft a kid. Add guys like Menshew. Start having potential possiblities. Adding one vet that never was good enough.....isn't playing the QB lottery the right way IMO.
  24. good news is Matt Rhule was an OC at Temple. He can do the job. bad news is his offenses as OC generally completed about 50% of their passes and averaged about 150 pass yards.
