if Matt Corral was my son I wouldn’t of wanted him to be drafted here. We have too much potential for the non-ideal to occur. Plus, Matt simply has potential to be used as a means for this staff to weather the storm of an unpleased home crowd. It started week 9 last year. Leash will be shorter. ideally Corral would have gone to a team and not be seen all season. I’m just acknowledging we have high odds of not doing ideal things with him. If Sam/Rhule start getting boo bird after 5-7 weeks….what are they going to do? PJ might buy them a couple weeks. it is what it is. We still have a comically weak QB roster. Everyone talks about the Browns, they got 3 QBs better than Sam.

the Jake Delhomme tribute to the Killers song will forever be my favorite! This dudes been awesome at what he does for a long time.

Problem for Cam is all the teams he would fit on have young QBs where the coach might be worried about how a #1 would deal with it all. Because even as a legit backup Cam is going to default into some form of leadership role. Like he make sense as goal line threat for someone like the Chargers. Would take some strain of Ekler who is injury prone. But Herbert is still growing in that leadership role. All the Brees, Eli’s, Rivers, etc that could of dealt with it are gone. Rams? They have a QB and coach that could deal with it. And the run game weakness. That’s about the only team I could see Cam fitting on that meets his criteria.

How many 3rd round rookie QBs have been drafted to a comparable situation that is the 2022 Carolina Panthers. It’s all relative. if our QB situation is Sam, PJ and Corral going into week 1? I think odds favor Corral getting on the field at some point. starting Corral as a rookie isn’t ideal. But we likely won’t be in a position to do ideal stuff. Fans turned on Sam/Rhule in week 9 with the boos. So if we don’t win and Sam is bad….I think it comes even earlier this upcoming year. And it matters. Tepper can’t have his coach and QB booed out of BoA for half a season.

My bad. Thought it was the offensive drop off from 2021 to 2020 being talked about. It will be okay. Just inside the 2021 season? I addressed that in another post. yeah, CMC applies. So does the caliber of opponent. The first 3 were super weak. It was talked about in real time when some were claiming we and Sam were good. So does teams figuring out what we were doing with Sam and what we didn’t trust him to do. Teams started to get fllm on him. The staff was calling direct runs when it got tight because they didn’t trust him and things like that. I don’t think either drop off is that hard to figure out. If Rhule couldn’t….that’s a problem.
-
CMC was out for more games in 2020 than 2021 though. He only played in 3 in 2020. 7 in 2021. He can’t really be used in talking about the drop off. *he could be used in talking about both likely would have done better with him more available.
-
I mean you also have to acknowledge the caliber of opponents we played the first 3 weeks too though. it’s a lot easier to go man on two rookie QBs both makings their NFL debuts. And a team displaced by a hurricane with their coaching staff out.

I just don’t see why the Browns do it then.k if that’s the case. Plus I think Sam being part of the deal would have leaked with the rest of the info. They could sit on Baker and see who gets hurts on other teams. They just signed Jacoby for the role Sam would fill
-
Exactly. Corral would be 4th on the depth chart and a practice squad guy. And pretty much this is the most Matt Rhule possible outcome. and while Baker would be the best QB in 2022. Especially the start. There is no actual point going down the Baker road. Outside of the fact Baker would probably get us the max amount of wins this team could muster.
-
Yep. I don’t give a rip about money. What would a team that gave up 3 picks for Sam give up for Baker. only other concern is the depth chart. Camp would start with Matt Corral 4th on the depth chart. We probably never see him and we generally already know the 3 ahead of him aren’t answers. Rhule probably keeps on the practice squad. That’s the primary reason I don’t want Baker.

the 2020 Panthers overachieved. They didn’t have Sam Darnold. Rhule wasn’t hated yet. Joe Brady was getting frankly too much buzz. People here and outside generally impressed we were so competitive. Career highs for a lot of folks. Then enter Sam Darnold. Then they picked up the 5th year. Which is what really made it the killer move. Rhule becomes the biggest clown not named Urban among NFL HCs. His image goes down the toilet starting with Sam’s camp that just got weird. Joe Brady experiment ends with a quickness and is fired. and the 5th year looks to of locked them in to a year 3 of Sam. Ben McAdoo can’t overcome Sam Darnold. so yeah, Sam Darnold would be the pinpoint even if you hated the Brady signing. Assuming Matt Corral can’t enter midseason and save everyone….which is a tall assumption for a rookie 3rd rounder.
-
He was probably the best realistic option at the time. And Rhule might of done better if he went that route from day 1. Maybe McAdoo could of talked Snow and Rhule out of Sam. Sam Darnold is the singular pinpoint move that will have killed Matt Rhule’s career in Carolina when the story is done IMO.
-
Again, you fail to acknowledge the playoff season was what got McAdoo essentially fired. They just waited a couple games into the next season to pull the trigger. That’s a weird fixation for you to keep championing. and here is Mr Facts pinning the Sam Darnold signing on…..Joe Brady? lol. Your favorite coach Matt Rhule already detailed how Sam Darnold got here.

lol that looks like a lone bored sportswriter having to make up something for people to click on in the slow month of April. And I’m sure it worked. Given how he is perceived up that way. there is no regret there lol. Well, the media might of enjoyed what a shitshow it got at the end there. It was wild. Which is good for their line of work. I can see we are now done here. If you now are going to troll me with the NY wishes they kept Ben McAdoo angle lol.
-
The Chewbacca defense is probably a better option.
-
I don’t really understand this question. But it also doesn’t seem you understand that playoff season you are bragging about….was the foundation for McAdoo’s firing. Not the season he was actually fired. That was just the confirmation and act. Because it became clear he wasn’t a good coach or playcaller. He was actually someone that got in the way and limited success. And IMO that was the league’s take too. Because he was basically done at that point.
-
All depends how you choose to view it. Giants O improved from 2013 to 2014. We agree. some would say a 2 time Super Bowl champ and veteran Eli Manning getting OBJ (one of the most talented WRs in the NFL) was the key catalyst in an improvement from 13 to 14. and you say the key catalyst was a first year OC named McAdoo. That no one has wanted since he left NY until a desperate Rhule came along. *yes, I realize the Giants made the postseason 1 year with McAdoo. You seem to leave out McAdoo was BLASTED that year specifically for holding a talented group back with horrible playcalling. That year you reference was basically the foundation of what got him fired. He got in the way of the offense. Benching Eli was icing on the McAdoo hate cake that already was baked.
-
I think that could be why Tepper kept Rhule this year. A big picture calculation on how others would look at things. I do believe the reporting he is embarrassed by Rhule and what he did with that. So he is giving Rhule a season, because I think in the grand scheme it will make taking a job here look better. league rumblings already say Carolina is clusterfug under Rhule. Tepper isn’t dumb. He knows how we look. Think he is just trying to look like an attractive boss when he goes hunting again. and there is enough smoke something is true. Tepper embarassed over Rhule. Rhule not crying when he leaves. Talking about options that could be avaliable the next hiring window like Payton. Etc.
-
Yeah. I called him the OC. Did I say he called the plays? the point, again, was Eli posted those strong individual numbers because he was a good QB…and that happened to be a season where he had very good weapons that where healthy. that’s the greatest reason for Eli’s individual success. Not the OC or HC with the play sheet. Same concept of why Eli got a bump in his numbers from 13 to 14. Eli acquired a crazy weapon in OBJ. Eli was a good QB pre and post McAdoo. You keep wanting to pin it all on McAdoo. Eli getting OBJ is the greater variable.
-
Mike Shula was the OC. A really weak OC. Which is why I noted him. Everyone here knows how bad he is. And you missed or ignored the point being made. Eli had good individual numbers that late in his career (some career highs) because of the healthy weapons that existed that season. Not so much the coaches. OC or HC.
-
and there are frankly just a handful of OCs that are really game changers at this level. Overall, most look good or at least competent with a good QB…and then bad pending they have a bad QB. problem with Sam is he can turn a perfectly good play and playcall into a bad down. people keep talking about Eli’s individual numbers vs the prior season and giving McAdoo credit. Eli Manning simply acquired OBJ. And Eli Manning wasn’t a slouch. Post McAdoo, old Eli posted his best completion % of his career and 4th most passing yards with Mike freaking Shula as OC. He had a healthy Barkley and OBJ that year.
-
I’d still like someone to ask Tepper about his “it’s an 8-8” league” stance. What about our process prevents us from being what the league essentially designs for everyone to get to. Think Tepper basically alluded to each organization dictates where you take that 8-8 team.
-
McAdoo not really a run heavy guy though and we probably won’t be built to do that except vs weak teams though. The 4 teams in NY all finished bottom half each year and he has a higher pass ratio as a playcaller than our offense to date under Rhule . we have made some good hires. No doubt on that. But some of it will be for waste if Rhule goes outside of whatever one year learning some can get out of it. But that essentially gets to my drum. Tepper keeps managing it all wrong. Marty should of left with Ron. Rhule then married to a new GM. He wasn’t. Now Fitt isn’t married to Rhule. So IMO, a lot of the revamped coaching is just prep for if things go south with Rhule quick next year. Which has decent odds given Sam is still his QB and the schedule. BOA was getting really bad last year before the Cam gimmick this front office pulled. But then you would bring in a new HC with the old GM. GM thinks he has been building something for someone not here anymore. New HC will want and need a different roster. So this whole season just smells of a predictably wasted year that delays building something.
-
You could probably make the argument if we had a decent secondary Josh Norman gets cut early on and disappears. He was horrific at first. But we didn’t have a lot corners so he would go to the doghouse instead off the team….and we would keep working him. Then somehow became the highest paid DB in the NFL for a brief moment lol.
