saying to the media you have complete confidence in someone is completely meaningless in sports. There is nothing else to say. Just look at Rhule. He says junk like that all the time about guys. Then will cut them or trade them or fire them.

I think how coaches have handled the preseason in the past is at least relevant if you want to guess on future actions. We play the Bills in our 3rd preseason game. McDermott’s schedule was the exact same one Rhule ended up using last year. Bills sat all there starters the first 2 preseason games and played them a half in game 3. They both meet in preseason game 3 this season. and last preseason season Rhule pretty much bullshitted like he probably was going to play Sam each week as the media hounded him. Then rule the starters out on Friday. Everyone had a field day shitting on Rhule then too for being scared to play Sam. Generally cited the heavy load his starters were getting in practice with other teams as the reason. Which is why it makes it easy to go ahead and rule them out for the NE week because he established that as the Rhule way last camp. we will see. I just want to watch football. I’ll be happy watching any QB not named PJ.

Well, I am a fan. My eyeballs tell me Baker is better than Sam and it really isn’t close. Our coaches see it different. I concede I don’t look at players like them. and I still like Chinn better in the box more given how our run D looks right now on paper. Folks are going to be running at us and he is a good player even if still raw. He was a rookie that made a run at DPOY. We need more playmakers/talent in there mixing it up IMO. I wouldn’t call it just 2 freak plays either as a rookie.

big plays? More TDs, FF, FR as a rookie on one less game. I like Chinn anywhere. But my preference based on 2 years is with him more in the box. Just seemed to be one of those guys that got the ball. And I think teams will run at as a fair amount and would rather have him more mixed up in it.

I think the general thought is he was a much bigger impact player his rookie year vs his sophomore year. He didn’t play FS his rookie year. It’s not the the can’t play FS. He can.

Same reason he gave Will Grier and PJ all the work last preseason? it also just opens the door for the media/fans/noise to have input on his QB decision. And he clearly IMO has always planned to let his evaluation with the Pats practice be where he makes the call to the public. At least that his been his claim. I’m just betting Rhule keeps being Rhule. We wanted to see Sam last preseason season. We didn’t. He just teased it. Just feels like the same script to me. We will see. I’d be happy to be off on my take. I’d like Baker and Sam to play. I’d like to see everyone but PJ. Preferably with a mix of starters and 2s for Sam/Baker but with Rhule sitting the legit studs out. Shelf Moore, CMC, and Moton. That would be my ideal game this Sat.

See I think that just cements that you don’t see Baker or Sam this weekend. If he isn’t playing them in preseason game 2, he won’t play them for preseason game 1…where starters generally don’t play. Rhule is going to have the “competition” be in camp/practice. It gives the media, fans, etc the least info into why he makes it. And then Rhule plays his staters just like last year. One game for a half in game 3. He is just BSing about how they might play just like he did last preseason IMO. He just doesn’t want to say the truth and deal with it before the game. Like last year.

They put co-starters for people “competing” yet have our #1 overall pick as 2nd string. Guess the vets are deemed more sensitive.

I think the end will be really good. Corral and Howell. Well, that's the part I want to watch at least.

I mean, Fox and Ron were just decent coaches. Flawed sure. But they overall were decent NFL coaches. Clear strengths and weaknesses. Rhule doesn't have a NFL strength IMO. He has a college one. Rhule seem like a Dabo-wannabe. And Dabo would be a horrible NFL coach. Dabo's A+ schtick wouldn't work in the NFL. And Rhule is bringing like a C game college schtick to the NFL.

I mean, I'm just saying what I think happens, not what I want to see. Rhule already said he won't play one and not the other. I just don't see how a HC can risk his starters for that long in preseason game 1 for a fake competition. Everyone on the team already knows Baker is better.

Yep, everyone has a window. Decent coaches too. Ron is a decent coach. He just isn't a great coach. It's much easier to do worse than Ron Rivera than better. Same w/ Fox. I consider them to be the same.

CJ Saunders should play in every preseason game. CJ Saunders isn't DJ Moore or Moton or CMC or Shaq, etc. Rivera isn't going to be playing his starting D the first half.

starters only played in preseason game 3 last year. I don't have a problem w/ Icky or some unproven starters getting some odd reps. Sam should of been playing last preseason. He needed any work he could get. But I don't want DJ Moore and the likes out there playing a bunch of preseason games vs backups.

I said I thought PJ and Corral would get all the snaps. Had Matt at almost 2 full quarters. I don't think wanting 4 quarters of Matt Corral is really being that pro Corral. That's not good development. Give him hardly no reps in camp and then have him go play a NFL game for 3 quarters out the gate? Who does that to a 3rd round rookie.

playing our starters for over a quarter vs backups in preseason game 1 doesn't seem like the greatest idea. I have no issue w/ Rhule playing Sam and Baker w/ our 2s. But I don't think that is his play when he does play those 2. is there a coach in the NFL that played their staters for the quarter last season in preseason game 1. Rhule's QB competition is bogus to begin with. In no way do I want to see our starters out there taking part in some fake competition all preseason.

Because you don't want to play your starters in a lot of preseason ball. Preseason is largely about sorting out the bottom of the roster anyway. The loss of a game hurts that. I didn't think 30% of the snaps was chump change in game 1. Bump it to 40%. But I don't want Matt Corral dominating the snaps yet. I want to develop him. He isn't getting much work in camp, throw him out there for 3 NFL quarters with limited gameplanning and it could go south quick.

I think PJ and Matt get all the snaps. 70-30 split in PJ's favor. Which isn't bad. You don't want to drown Corral with too much especially since he hasn't gotten a ton of work in camp. I still think Rhule looks out for PJ. He is going to get cut. Give him preseason game 1 to try to get picked up as depth elsewhere.

they got a preseason game this weekend. Camp is going on. Wonder if Sam Mills Jr was missing time for the HOF stuff. I mean, right or wrong, Ron seems like a show up guy given how he went about his battle with cancer. Just speculating. Wonder what the difference in opinion was on. best content has never come from the Panthers org IMO. It's been from local media. Which has fallen off a cliff. Local media is dying in general. We use to have heavy Charlotte Observer and the Herald coverage back in the day. That's all been shrunk down and is going away. now we just got jazzed up Panther PR.

I think how bad PJ Walker is, is overstated around here. He isn’t a NFL backup. That’s just Rhule being Rhule. Let’s establish that. But he is still better than a lot of QBs we actually drafted. He can’t avoid the dumb play….but a lot of guys we drafted couldn’t do what PJ has done on a NFL field (like the AZ game). He has some level of sporadic ability. So he isn’t the worst we have put on the roster in reality. Pike, LeFors, Touchdown Jesus. Hell, PJ probably is better than Clausen.
