Deviation from the Original Plan.. Is the Reason for this Mess..
CRA replied to WOW!!'s topic in Carolina Panthers
well, he isn't. Because now he is tied to Matt Rhule. And Matt Rhule isn't going to be successful. So I would imagine the next HC will want to actually rebuild this O the correct way. Which means a young QB, not having the highest RB in the NFL, etc. -
We don't know that. IMO everything showed Matt Rhule simply wanted to move on from Cam. Several reasons. Think health was part of the reason. But not the primary one. Think Cam simply commanded too much attention for a young staff like Rhule's to come in and compete with. Cam just too big of a figure. Which despite being a Cam dude....I can kinda get it. It's kinda like how it was never going to be Cam's team until 89 was shown the door. Rhule wasn't going to come in here and make it whatever he wanted with #1 here. Once that decision was made.....then Teddy became the option.

the Sam argeument always ignored that NY didn't make Sam into the QB that played in NY. He was the same guy at USC. That was who they drafted. They got exactly that. And he has been conistently that the entire time he has played QB. College and pros. Joe Brady hasn't been consistently anything. Great year at LSU bringing his pass concepts to LSU. Pretty good debut as OC given it was his first time. Really bad year 2.

I agree and disagree. I think Teddy being a vet of the system Carolina was running was hurting egos of a young staff. I think it is a safe bet that Rhule wasn't running a legit NFL team. Not how it works across the league. I think Teddy was viewed as a problem because he was aware that what Rhule/Brady/ etc were doing wasn't how you get it done. That starts talk. So Teddy and Rhule became an impossible marriage. And Rhule got desperate after that and started making really bad moves. Offered too much for Stafford given what we were. We were suppose to be building from the ground up. Rejected. As that isn't what Stafford was leaving Detriot for. Then he wasn't guranteed a QB in the draft. Watson got in trouble. Then there was basically only Sam Darnold left as a guy to bring in. And their desperation caused them to be really dumb. Signed him. Then a QB fell. But taking a QB highlights how desperate and dumb the Darnold move was, on top of how Teddy just went, they just tied up tons of money in two bad QBs and gave away tons draft picks. So they picked up the 5th to show fake confidence in a poorly handled offseason in regards to the QB spot. Not wanting to draw even more attention to the QB debacle by drafting a QB after wasting all those draft resources and so much of the cap allocated to scrub QBs they just signed. -
We hung with everyone we played in year 1 minus the Super Bowl champions. Phil Snow and Matt Rhule picked Sam. Not Joe Brady.

sounds like the best coach in the NFL took a rookie QB.....inserted him into a well built team that believes in running and playing defense. And when he does pass the football he is throwing to a diverse cast of veteran players. Mac Jones is the only rookie QB actually in a position to succed. Maybe Lance too but he isn't playing. There is a reason he is having a good season and Trevor Lawerence isn't. And it has little to do with Mac and Trevor. -
It can be. Take a simple reality called overpromotion. Management can easily take a good hard working employee.....and create a bad employee. For example, let's say you are a great salesman. A great salesman can be overpromoted and into a job he isn't actually good at. Now, whose fault is that?

I think Tepper is focused on putting buuts in BOA stadium for not one but now TWO professional sports teams. Does Rhule look to help with that? Or does Rhule help set the narrative that Tepper is a bumbling sports owner. There is a soccer crossever IMO. And yeah, Tepper needs people to believe in him too to maximze the money for both teams. I won't pay a dime to go see Matt Rhule/Sam Darnold next season. Nor will I pay to watch his soccer club. Owner has to show more than Tepper is.

Rhule's contract says 7 years. Lot of coaches have had contracts that said a whole bunch of years too. But when you suck, you go.
-
Sam Darnold being a trainwreck isn't a surprise though. That's not 20/20. That's a predictable trainwreck.
-
Teddy frankly made sense if Rhule wanted to get rid of Cam. Teddy gets the O up and running in a COVID world. Check. Teddy was probably the only one who could do that. You then draft a kid to come in and take the job from Teddy and he has two years to take it from him. That's an actual plan. Rhule then scrapped the logical plan because Teddy hurt people's feelings with too much truth. Teddy can still be meh QB and spot what a college coaching staff is doing wrong. Joe Brady didn't bring this on himself. Rhule got rid of Teddy. Rhule brought in Sam. Rhule sent us backwards. Joe Brady didn't do that. Rhule is the one without a plan.
-
It's the whole two things can be true aspect. Joe Brady and his offense suck. and everything Rhule did was going to suck by design. Joe Brady is the face of what Rhule put together.
-
I'm not sure if Brady is any good. But I 100% agree that by design he was setup to fail. No doubt. He is a Rhule scapegoat for the offense too. If you hire a green OC that has exclusively been a passing game guy....and give him horrible QBs and OLs.....well, the results are going to be bad.

that was a horrible game. And Bill is a genius in part because the Bills shot themselves in the foot over and over. -
Gettleman was another horrible GM. It would have been nice to of seen Ron Rivera paired with a decent GM. I still think his time was up. But it would have been interesting to see what played out of the Gettlemen hire would have actually been a good one. And we know Gettlemen was horrific. He showed that elsewhere.
-
Ron would have kept Cam going into 2020. That singular move likely would have put us in a better big picture position than hiring Rhule. Rhule paid Teddy/Sam, picked up a 5th year and traded away our draft picks. I mean the Ron window ended. Ron knows that. Panthers went about replacing Ron in the worst way possible. would have rather kept Ron another year and replaced him with someone not named Matt Rhule.
-
Nah. Rhule has never called plays on any level. Rhule isn't a hands on coach. He is a big picture type coach.
-
Cheated?
-
Rhule commented that going forward some things would be the same outside of Nixon calling the actual plays. Specifically that different members of the offensive staff are tasked each week with game planning different aspects of the O (redzone, 3rd down, short yardage) and that they will continue doing that… well, maybe that shouldn’t continue as is either? Maybe you don’t need the exact same folks cooking up stuff and handing it to the new name OC. Seems like they would be key part of the game planning problems.
-
Think he wins 6 this year. And they added a 17th game. So I don’t consider that improvement. Especially given the clusterfug of the QB position. Trading away our draft picks. And lack of actual direction and hope. 2 years in and this team literally has zero identity or direction on offense.
-
Pretty big red flag that a team got that from him and kicked him to the curb.
-
Talk about a red flag coach Harbaugh came straight in to the NFL and did nothing but win. And a NFL team said no thanks, we would rather not do this.
